The ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE SYSTEM -
Chapter 66: REX
Chapter 66: REX
I stared at the person in front of me—still shocked beyond words.
He had known.
Somehow, he had realized instantly that I had copied his trait. There wasn’t even the slightest delay in his reaction. No pause. No confusion. Just... understanding.
That should have been impossible.
The system I possess—the Ultimate Experience System—is hidden. My subclass is hidden. Even my class, Lawrenderer, isn’t something anyone on Earth should recognize.
Yet this man, this mysterious figure in a black robe, not only knew that I copied his ability—but also how I did it.
And despite all that... I still wanted to defeat him.
I took a deep breath and raised my head, staring straight into the shadow beneath his hood.
"If none of this works on you..." I said slowly, "Then I’ll use one of my most powerful abilities."
The moment those words left my mouth, something unexpected happened.
The robed man’s expression shifted. His body relaxed. And then—he raised both hands in the air.
"I surrender," he said calmly. "Don’t use it. I know you only have three chances to activate that ability... it’s far too precious to waste on someone like me."
My eyes widened.
What...?
"How do you know about that?" I asked, stunned. "My class is hidden. I’m the first human on Earth to have it. There’s no record, no trace. How do you know all this?"
The man chuckled softly and took a step closer.
"You’re right," he said. "You are the first human on this Earth to have that class. But listen to your own words—’first human’... and ’on this Earth.’"
He paused for a moment, letting the silence sink in before continuing.
"There are many things you don’t know, kid. The system isn’t as evil as you think... but it’s not a gift from the heavens either. It’s something much more complicated. And in time... you’ll understand everything."
He slowly lowered his hood.
"My name is Rex," he said. "I was sent here by my elder to teach you a thing or two. But it seems you’ve grown a little reckless."
He looked me dead in the eye, his voice calm—but serious.
"Let me tell you something. And listen carefully. I know what you’re trying to do. I know what you’re aiming for. But the path you’ve chosen... it’s not going to be easy. Not even for someone with a hidden class like yours."
I narrowed my eyes.
"I don’t even know you," I said. "Why are you telling me all this?"
He gave me a faint smile. "Because you’re the only one walking this path."
The wind around us seemed to pause.
"You might think Lawrenderer is some overpowered, unbeatable class," Rex continued. "But don’t overestimate yourself. It’s hidden, yes—but that doesn’t make it supreme. There are classes far stronger than it, especially as you move forward."
He raised a finger.
"You know about the rank upgrade from SR to SRR, right? That’s just the beginning. What you don’t know is that awakening doesn’t stop there."
My breath caught.
"There are a total of four awakenings after your initial one," Rex explained. "Each awakening brings change—power, yes, but also consequences. Lawrenderer is a class that will grow weaker with each awakening, unless... unless you choose the correct path at a critical turning point."
He paused again.
"If you make the right choices, at the right time, then—and only then—will you become a terrifying existence. One that others can’t even hope to match. And I’m here to help shape you into that being."
I stood frozen in place. His words crashed down on me like a tidal wave.
Until now, I had believed that being a regressor made me special. That my hidden class gave me an edge no one else had. But this man—Rex—he shattered that illusion in seconds.
There were things far beyond my current understanding. Forces, powers, knowledge... all hidden behind the curtain I hadn’t even known existed.
I swallowed my pride and asked the question that had been haunting my mind:
"...Rex. Why are you helping me?" I said, my voice quieter now. "I don’t even know you. Even if what you’re saying is true, I’ll find my own way. I know how to grow strong. I don’t need someone interfering with it."
Rex looked at me silently for a moment, then let out a sigh.
"You still don’t get it, do you?" he said. "I was thinking of telling you later, when you were more prepared. But maybe... maybe it’s time you heard it now."
He stepped forward. Closer. Until he was right next to me.
And then—he leaned in and whispered in my ear:
"I... and the Elders... have had our eyes on you ever since the moment you were reborn."
My entire body went cold.
My eyes widened in disbelief.
He knows.
He knows I’m a regressor.
He knows about my previous life.
He knows everything.
A thousand thoughts raced through my mind. It felt like the world was shifting beneath my feet.
It wasn’t just fate. It wasn’t coincidence.
They had planned this. They had watched me. Maybe even guided things from the shadows.
Suddenly, I felt like I was walking on a path someone else had prepared long ago.
But strangely enough...
I didn’t sense any evil intent from Rex. His gaze wasn’t malicious. His tone wasn’t manipulative.
If anything—he looked tired. Like someone who had seen too much, and was trying to help the next generation avoid the same mistakes.
I took a deep breath and nodded slowly.
"Alright," I said quietly. "I’ll trust you... for now."
Rex smiled faintly.
"That’s all I ask."
"Oh, and I forgot to mention one thing," I said, turning back to Rex. "That ability I mentioned earlier... I’ve only got two chances left. I already used one."
Rex raised an eyebrow, then gave a slow nod, as if he wasn’t surprised.
"You must’ve used it for something important," he said calmly. "I don’t blame you. Still... that ability is far more valuable than you realize. Guard it well."
Then his expression turned serious again.
"Now, kid... I think it’s time we moved somewhere else. I know you have allies—but don’t you think they’re too weak for what you’re trying to do? The path you’ve chosen isn’t just difficult—it’s deadly."
He paused, then added with quiet conviction, "I’m going to teach you. All of you. So gather your team somewhere empty and quiet. You’ll need space for what’s coming."
I smirked slightly.
"Empty space?" I repeated. "No need to look for one—I already have a training ground."
Rex tilted his head, intrigued.
"Prepared, are we?" he said. "Good. You’ll need every advantage you can get."
Then, with a glance over my shoulder, his eyes passed across the girls behind me.
"Hmm... so these are your companions? A demon girl bound to your soul, a mage with an immense fire core, and a dragonkin with awakened blood. You really are lucky, kid," Rex muttered. "These girls... they’ll be more useful than you think."
I blinked.
He didn’t even hesitate. It was like he could see through everything about them in a single glance—abilities, lineage, even their potential.
This man... he wasn’t just strong. He was something else entirely.
I turned toward my companions—Hui’er, Meiyun, and Ruxue—who were watching us quietly from a short distance away.
They must’ve sensed the shift in the atmosphere too.
"Let’s go, girls," I said, my tone steady. "We’ve got training to do."
Hui’er smiled faintly, her crimson eyes glowing.
Meiyun cracked her knuckles, a spark of excitement flashing in her gaze.
Ruxue, ever calm, gave a quiet nod and stepped forward beside me.
This was it.
Things were about to change.
As we moved toward the underground training ground, the air around us began to settle. The tension from before had eased, and I could feel the anticipation building among the girls. Hui’er glanced at me, her lightning-tinged hair fluttering. Ruxue and Meiyun followed silently, both sensing that whatever came next would be important.
But just as we reached the entrance to the training ground—
Rex suddenly paused.
His brows furrowed, a thin layer of sweat appearing on his forehead.
Something had changed.
"Wait—kid," he said quickly, his tone urgent. "Take this."
He handed me a scroll wrapped in dark-blue binding, sealed with a symbol I didn’t recognize.
"What’s going on?" I asked sharply. "What’s wrong?"
Rex didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stared into the air—as if sensing something beyond my perception.
"Something... urgent has come up," he muttered. "Too soon. I have to return—immediately."
"Return?" I repeated, confused. "To where?"
He glanced at me one last time, his expression unreadable. "I don’t think I need to explain anything to you. Not yet. Just... do what you feel is right. Trust your instincts."
And then, just like that—
He vanished.
No sound. No trace. Not even a ripple in the air.
Gone.
"What the hell...?" I muttered, stunned. "What just happened?"
I looked down at the scroll in my hand.
It pulsed faintly with light, the seal slowly unraveling as I touched it. A name appeared across the surface in glowing golden letters:
Class Scroll: Instructor
{Rare} — {Legendary}
My eyes widened.
Rare and Legendary?
I’d seen Rare classes before. I’d even encountered a few Epic ones through the system’s simulations. But this? Legendary? That wasn’t just uncommon—it was practically unheard of.
And then, as the scroll glowed brighter, information began to flow into my mind—like a whisper from the system itself.
[CLASS: INSTRUCTOR]
Grade: Rare/Legendary
Type: Support–Tactical/Enhancement
Description:
A class forged for those who guide others toward greatness. The Instructor does not only grow stronger individually, but enables others to break their limits. Grants the ability to share techniques, accelerate comprehension, and unlock potential in those you train. At higher levels, the Instructor can even imprint unique skills or combat senses into students.
— Best suited for a leader who walks the path ahead, but never alone.
I blinked in disbelief.
"An Instructor class...?" I murmured.
It wasn’t just strong—it was transformational.
With this class... I wouldn’t just get stronger. I could make others stronger, too. Train them, push them past their limits. Maybe even change their fate.
Was this why Rex gave it to me?
Was this... his real lesson?
I closed my hand around the scroll, eyes narrowing.
"Looks like our training session just got a lot more serious."
