Chapter 75: 75. This is my daughter (first update, please follow)
Three days had passed in a flash, and Fu Hengyi’s vacation was over. That afternoon, he had to leave.
"I’m leaving. You have to take care of yourself at home. When you have nothing to do, go out with your friends more often and don’t always stay at home. Eat your meals on time, don’t just get by, and make sure to dry your hair after washing it. Don’t go to sleep with wet hair; it will cause headaches."
Fu Hengyi kept on nagging, his heart full of various worries.
Shen Qinglan wore an indifferent expression. From the moment she got up in the morning, he had been lecturing her for most of the day, and even the best patience would be worn out by Fu Hengyi’s incessant nagging like a curse boring into one’s brain.
"Mr. Fu, I’m twenty-one years old, not eleven," Shen Qinglan could no longer bear it and spoke out with a cold laugh.
Fu Hengyi closed his mouth. He indeed had spoken a bit too much today, but it was only because she was always so careless in her daily life.
However, no matter how worried he was, after the driver made the third phone call, Fu Hengyi still left. Watching the car disappear into the distance, Shen Qinglan sighed in relief.
She had never known that Fu Hengyi could be so nagging.
Now alone in the house with the auntie that Fu Hengyi hired only able to come to work tomorrow, Shen Qinglan lay on the sofa, boredly pressing the TV remote control.
It was almost dark when she finally strolled into the kitchen. Originally, she wanted to eat instant noodles, but remembering Fu Hengyi’s last-minute instructions, she instead opened the fridge, took out eggs and leftover rice, and made herself a bowl of fried rice.
After eating, Shen Qinglan cleaned the kitchen and continued to lie on the sofa watching boring TV dramas until ten o’clock at night, when she finally went to take a bath and went to bed.
The bedding still carried Fu Hengyi’s light scent, and Shen Qinglan, who usually slept well, found it hard to sleep that night. Smelling the familiar scent in the bedding, she eventually sat up.
She changed her clothes, drove to the apartment in Jianjia Garden, and locked herself in the studio. Once she entered, she stayed for a full day and night. By the time Shen Qinglan came out again, it was Saturday morning. She returned to Jiangxin Garden and fell into a deep sleep.
"Qinglan, it’s mom. Do you remember going shopping for clothes with mom?" Chu Yunrong’s call came while Shen Qinglan was sleeping.
Shen Qinglan picked up the phone, her eyes still foggy. Having not slept for a day and a night, she was very tired and hadn’t really listened to what Chu Yunrong had said.
"Qinglan, are you listening?" Chu Yunrong asked again.
This time, Shen Qinglan heard clearly, remembering that she had promised to accompany Chu Yunrong to a charity gala, "Mom, I was just taking a nap, I’m coming over now."
After hanging up the phone, Shen Qinglan went to the bathroom to take a bath, then drove back to the compound, where Chu Yunrong and Shen Xitong were already waiting. The three of them headed to a shopping mall in the city center.
"Sister, this dress is nice; you should try it on." Shen Xitong held a light green dress with ruffled edges in her hands, speaking to Shen Qinglan. The dress she held was utterly ladylike, elegant and beautiful in its design, yet it completely mismatched Shen Qinglan’s temperament. If Shen Qinglan wore this dress, she would certainly be ridiculed by the ladies and misses of high society for having no taste.
Shen Xitong’s intention was simply to see Shen Qinglan embarrassed among those people.
Shen Qinglan glanced at the dress, "Good choice, it suits you well." Saying so, she took a black knee-length dress from the rack and handed it to the clerk, "I’ll take this one."
Facing such an overt rejection, Shen Xitong felt a bit embarrassed and looked around for Chu Yunrong, only to realize that Chu Yunrong had just gone in to try on clothes. Biting her lip, she hung the dress back on the rack.
Of course, she knew the dress she was holding wasn’t suitable for Shen Qinglan; that style had always been her own preference.
"Miss, this dress doesn’t match the aura of the lady who was just here, but it suits you very well, would you like to try it on?" The sales assistant, lacking tact, stepped forward and said to Shen Xitong.
Shen Xitong’s expression changed slightly, she forced a smile, "No need, I don’t like this style."
The sales assistant wanted to persuade her further, but Shen Xitong had already moved to another rack of clothes. The assistant shook her head regretfully, thinking the dress indeed matched her well.
Chu Yunrong emerged from the changing room, Shen Qinglan and Shen Xitong had already chosen their clothes. Chu Yunrong glanced at the selections without a comment and paid the bill promptly.

The next day, Shen Qinglan slept in until noon, as she had suffered from insomnia again the night before. She looked at herself in the mirror, her face bore a rare expression of distress; just a month with Fu Hengyi, and already she couldn’t sleep without him by her side.
After washing her face with cold water, Shen Qinglan dressed in the gown she had bought the previous day, quickly put her hair up, and applied light makeup to mask the slight bluish circles under her eyes.
First, she went to the Shen family home, where Chu Yunrong and Shen Xitong were still getting ready upstairs. She asked Sister-in-law Song to make her a cup of tea and sat in the living room, staring at her phone. The screen displayed a photo of herself and Fu Hengyi taken during their last visit to Jinning City, the only photo of them together besides their marriage certificate.
Shen Qinglan’s fingers gently caressed the image of the two on the screen.
"What are you looking at, Qinglan?" Chu Yunrong called down from the upstairs.
Shen Qinglan put away her phone, her expression impassive, "Nothing, are we ready to leave?"
Shen Xitong followed behind Chu Yunrong, wearing a light purple long dress next to Chu Yunrong in her dark purple evening gown, looking as though they were in mother-daughter outfits.
Her gaze swept briefly over Shen Qinglan, a smile hinting in her eyes.
This charity event was hosted by the Mu family of Beijing, whose main interests were in business like the Han family. The Mu family, spanning three generations, was well-known for organizing various social events.
"Mrs. Fu, I was just wondering why I hadn’t seen you today, and here you are," greeted a woman in her forties dressed in a sapphire blue cheongsam as they entered.
"Lady Mu, sorry for being late, there was some traffic," replied the host of the event, and the matriarch of the Mu family, Mu Liancheng’s mother.
Lady Mu smiled, "You’re not late, the banquet hasn’t started yet." Her gaze then shifted to Chu Yunrong, landing on Shen Xitong and Shen Qinglan standing beside her.
"Xitong gets more beautiful as she grows."
Shen Xitong smiled graciously, "Aunt Mu, you look younger yourself."
Lady Mu chuckled lightly, "Xitong, your words are still as sweet," then turning to Shen Qinglan, "And who is this?"
Chu Yunrong replied with a smile, "This is my younger daughter, Qinglan."
With that, Lady Mu understood—this was Shen Qinglan, the true eldest daughter of the Shen family.
"Truly a beauty, just like you. How come we never see such a beautiful daughter out and about?"
Chu Yunrong smiled slightly, "This child enjoys tranquility and prefers not to go out. This time, it took a lot of persuading to get her to come."
