The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife -
Chapter 62. Sleep in each other’s arms
Chapter 62: 62. Sleep in each other’s arms
Shen Qinglan was born in the compound, and when she was born, Fu Hengyi even held her once.
Fu Hengyi vaguely remembered that Shen Qinglan was a lively and adorable girl when she was young, particularly fond of smiling, and liked to run trailing behind them. She was somewhat spoiled, crying when she fell, her face smeared with snot and tears. Her brother, Shen Junyu, couldn’t console her, but as soon as Fu Hengyi picked her up, she would stop and then wipe all her snot and tears on his clothes, because of which Shen Junyu often felt jealous of his sister.
It was unexpected that when he saw Shen Qinglan again, sixteen years had passed, and the once tearful little kitty had grown into a graceful young lady, even becoming his wife.
From the first moment he saw Shen Qinglan, Fu Hengyi knew that this girl must have a story in her past. Although her gaze was consistently cold, the unknown buried beneath that coldness made Fu Hengyi feel a bit heartbroken.
The hospital room fell into a stunned silence.
"Come up," Fu Hengyi spoke softly.
Shen Qinglan looked at him, puzzled.
Fu Hengyi shifted to the side and patted the empty half of the bed, "Come and sleep for a while."
Shen Qinglan glanced at him, silently took off her shoes, climbed onto the bed, and lay down beside him.
The hospital bed was very small, and even though Shen Qinglan’s figure was slender, it still felt very cramped when she lay down. Fu Hengyi extended his arm and pulled her into his embrace, their bodies instantly pressing together without any gaps.
Shen Qinglan paused, then pulled away slightly to avoid touching his wound.
"Don’t worry, sleep," he assured her.
Fu Hengyi’s deep, magnetic voice rose by her ear, and because they were so close, his warm breath tickled Shen Qinglan’s ear, making her feel somewhat itchy.
Fu Hengyi held her with no other movement, smelling the mix of medicinal and disinfectant scents from Fu Hengyi’s body, Shen Qinglan gradually closed her eyes.
She slept very peacefully, her breathing even.
Fu Hengyi quietly watched her serene sleeping face. She was well-behaved in her sleep, completely still, and Fu Hengyi dared not move either, fearing he might wake her.
She was highly alert in her sleep, waking up at the slightest noise. He knew this from last time when he was attacked shortly after returning home.
Such alertness wasn’t developed overnight; clearly, she had lived through a long period of insecurity and fear to cultivate such an extraordinary vigilance.
Fu Hengyi was curious, curious about her past life, he wanted to know everything about her past, but he didn’t want to force her. He wanted her to willingly tell him.
Watching her quiet sleeping face, the originally sleepless Fu Hengyi also felt his eyelids grow heavy and soon fell asleep.
This sleep lasted till the next morning for Shen Qinglan, and even when the medical staff came in twice during the night, she didn’t wake up, perhaps because Fu Hengyi’s embrace was too comforting, allowing her to lower her guard.
Of course, Fu Hengyi woke up as soon as the medical staff appeared at the door of the room, signaling them to leave before he went back to sleep.
When Shen Qinglan woke up, daylight was already bright. When she opened her eyes, her expression was dazed and cute, which brought a smile to Fu Hengyi’s eyes.
But soon, the clarity returned to Shen Qinglan’s eyes, to Fu Hengyi’s slight regret.
Fu Hengyi was severely injured this time, but fortunately he was strong physically, and once his condition stabilized, he was transferred back to a hospital in Beijing under the escort of a team of experts.
Fu Hengyi came back on a special plane, accompanied by Shen Qinglan. Just as they had settled in, Old Sir Fu stormed into the hospital.
"Where is that brat Fu Hengyi?"
Shen Qinglan could hear Old Sir Fu’s robust voice from inside the ward, and Fu Hengyi obviously heard it too, helplessly holding his forehead.
Old Sir Fu soon appeared in the ward and immediately sized up Fu Hengyi, relieved that he looked relatively well, "It seems you’re not going to die."
Shen Qinglan: ...
Fu Hengyi: ...
Medical staff present: ...
Then, Old Sir Fu circled around Shen Qinglan, clicking his tongue and shaking his head, which baffled Shen Qinglan.
"Grandfather?"
Old Sir Fu looked on with pity, "Child, you’ve lost weight again. It wasn’t easy for me to fatten you up a bit before, and all that’s gone because of Fu Hengyi’s antics."
Shen Qinglan: ...
Fu Hengyi: ...
Medical staff present: ...
Shen Qinglan looked at Fu Hengyi, "You’re not actually his biological son, are you?"
Fu Hengyi blinked, "I was adopted, you’re the biological one."
The medical staff detailed Fu Hengyi’s condition and recovery status to Old Sir Fu, who was completely relieved upon hearing the positive news. Ignoring the protest in Fu Hengyi’s eyes, he took Shen Qinglan home to ’nourish her health.’
"Grandfather, if you’re so worried about him, why don’t you say it outright?" asked Shen Qinglan in the car.
Old Sir Fu’s demeanor turned serious, and after a deep sigh upon hearing Shen Qinglan’s words, he said, "From the moment I knew he chose this path, I knew this day would come. Hengyi’s father died on a mission, and when Hengyi said he wanted to join the military, I actually disagreed. I had already lost a son and didn’t want to lose a grandson too, but Hengyi was determined, and I couldn’t stop him. Every time he went on a mission, I was terrified I would end up sending off my young for the second time."
"The first time Hengyi was injured on a mission was nine years ago. He was about your age then, and he almost didn’t make it but somehow pulled through. I did try to persuade him after that, but Hengyi told me he was proud of both me and his father, and he couldn’t disgrace our family name.
At that time, I realized that since this was his own choice, all I could do as his grandfather was to support him. Over three years ago, when Hengyi was injured and had to leave the army, I thought he would finally settle down. But then he started a security company and still kept himself busy out of sight. It’s hard on you, girl. Right now, I somewhat regret having matched you two together, not knowing if it was the right thing to do."
Shen Qinglan’s lips curled slightly, "Grandfather, marrying him was my choice. I trust him; he’s a responsible man. He knows we’re waiting for him at home and won’t put himself in unnecessary danger. This time, it was just an accident."
Old Sir Fu looked intently at Shen Qinglan, and after a long sigh, he felt a sudden sense of relief that Fu Hengyi had married Shen Qinglan.
In fact, Old Sir Fu was worried that Shen Qinglan might think less of Fu Hengyi because of his injuries, but hearing her say this put his mind at ease.
As for Shen Qinglan not understanding why Old Sir Fu took her out? Not necessarily, since Fu Hengyi was her choice, and it had actually been her who initiated their marriage proposal. As long as Fu Hengyi did not betray her, she would never leave him, and that had nothing to do with love.
