In order to search for this rebellious teenager, they had been combing the jungle for an entire day. Aside from taking a short rest at dusk to prepare their equipment, they had hardly stopped.

This jungle was primitive, housing many fierce beasts, and if someone ventured in, encountering danger was a high possibility. Therefore, the top priority was to quickly find the person.

But who would have thought that during the search, Fu Hengyi and his team received such unexpected news?

If the people they encountered were indeed criminals, and the teenager fell into their hands, it would certainly be a big problem.

"Damn it, kids like this should be strung up and beaten. They’ve had it too good for too long and now they’re itching for a thrashing," someone cursed.

They had no weapons; if they came across criminals with firearms, it was uncertain who would win the standoff.

Fu Hengyi leaned against a tree, arms crossed in contemplation, his face expressionless. Even when he heard his subordinates complaining, he didn’t speak. It wasn’t until a voice came through his earpiece that he reacted.

"Brother Fu," the person on the other side said, their tone heavy.

Fu Hengyi’s heart sank, fearing the situation had developed in the worst possible direction.

"Yeah, go ahead."

"Brother Fu, it’s confirmed. This group is indeed a band of fugitive criminals. The leader is the perpetrator of the ’3-15’ murder case recently announced online, and the person we’re looking for is also in their hands."

Fu Hengyi’s face darkened, and he remained silent for a long time.

"Brother Fu, what do we do now?"

"I’ll notify the local police. You keep monitoring."

He glanced at the time; it was still early, not the right moment to rescue them.

After cutting the communication, he contacted the local police, briefly explaining the situation. Before retiring, he had collaborated with the local police, so they were familiar with Fu Hengyi.

Receiving Fu Hengyi’s call immediately raised the local police’s attention.

Fu Hengyi discussed the operation plan with them briefly, which he had just decided on.

The local police were eager for Fu Hengyi’s cooperation, and quickly finalized the rescue plan.

Among the hostages in the criminals’ hands were not only the person Fu Hengyi was searching for but also several local residents, seemingly taken as hostages deliberately by the criminals. It was said there were women and children among them.

Fu Hengyi made a gesture, and the group advanced toward the cabin. Though they seemed slow, they moved swiftly. Despite the large number of people, they made little noise, like phantoms in the night, coming and going silently.

The cabin soon appeared ahead. Fu Hengyi gestured for everyone to hide. From Fu Hengyi’s angle, two men could be seen in front of the cabin, armed, pacing back and forth. Two more were on the side of the cabin. Though he couldn’t see behind it, he was sure someone must be guarding there too. As to whether there were more patrolling outside, Fu Hengyi couldn’t confirm.

Estimating the time, it was about just past midnight now. This group of people was very cautious and desperate fugitives. If they acted rashly, it might endanger the hostages, and Fu Hengyi needed to delay to buy time for the police.

Time ticked by, and although it was late September, there were still many mosquitoes in the forest. Fu Hengyi’s group, obviously a feast for mosquitoes, remained silent despite being bitten all over.

Suddenly, Fu Hengyi’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He perked up, knowing it was the local police arriving, the signal for action they had agreed on.

He reached up and tapped on his earpiece three times. Everyone’s eyes lit up, knowing it was time to act, and adrenaline heated their blood, long dormant.

"Groups of three. Groups one and two, deal with the sides and back. Group three will work with the police for cover. I’ll distract the two in front. Group four, rescue the hostages. Move."

As soon as he finished speaking, Fu Hengyi led the charge, using the cover of grass and tree trunks to approach the cabin successfully.

He shot forward like lightning, his gaze sharp, reaching the two in front in an instant. With a flash of light in his hand, one of them fell to the ground. The other sensed something amiss, eyes snapping open, just about to call out when Fu Hengyi covered his mouth, applying force until he passed out. He gently laid him on the ground without making a sound.

Meanwhile, gunfire erupted in his ears—the police had engaged.

Fu Hengyi, unarmed, wisely avoided charging ahead, slipping past the criminals’ fire zone to enter the cabin during the chaos.

Inside the cabin were three hostages: a woman, a child, and the rebellious teenager they were searching for.

The three struggled when they saw Fu Hengyi, especially the teenager, whose face was streaked with tears, genuinely terrified.

Fu Hengyi untied them and reassured them, "The police are here. Don’t panic."

Just then, Mu Liancheng entered, picking up the child.

Suddenly, the woman’s eyes widened in horror.

Years of honed instincts warned Mu Liancheng of the danger, but it was too late to retreat. He could only watch as a bullet flew toward him.

At the critical moment, Fu Hengyi reacted first, slamming into Mu Liancheng, accompanied by the woman’s screams.

The night once again returned to silence...

In the hospital corridor, a tall man stood before a young woman, apologizing in a low voice, "Sister-in-law, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t been careless, the captain wouldn’t be injured. The captain got hurt saving me..."

A seven-foot tall man, usually strong and resolute, now stood with reddened eyes, face full of pain.

The woman, clearly in her early twenties, was very beautiful but had an aura of coolness. She was Shen Qinglan.

Shen Qinglan’s gaze was fixated on the closed doors of the operating room. She spoke with a clear and cool voice, "No need for apologies. You’re his brother. Saving you was his choice, and I respect his choice."

The man, Mu Liancheng, was stunned, staring blankly at Shen Qinglan. He had prepared himself for her reproach, knowing that if he hadn’t been careless, Fu Hengyi wouldn’t have been taken into the emergency room trying to save him.

Shen Qinglan looked at Mu Liancheng. "You’re all brothers who have shared life-and-death experiences. I believe if he were in danger, you would also risk your lives to save him, right?"

She looked steadily at Mu Liancheng, who answered without hesitation, "Of course." If it were him, he would do the same.

Shen Qinglan’s lips curved slightly, "If that’s the case, then there’s no need to apologize. I won’t blame any of you."

Mu Liancheng gazed dazedly at Shen Qinglan’s young face and remained silent for a long time.
