Chapter 46: 46. Saw an acquaintance (including PK event announcement)

Gu Kai was a silent person. After greeting Shen Qinglan briefly, he didn’t speak again. Everyone was accustomed to this, clearly his personality.

Jiang Chenxi, on the other hand, gave a gentle and refined impression. At first glance, he resembled her brother a bit, but upon closer inspection, it was apparent that one had gentleness ingrained in his bones, while the other wore it as a disguise—a fox in sheep’s clothing.

The former was Jiang Chenxi, and the latter was naturally her brother, Shen Junyu.

"Little sister-in-law, you’re truly beautiful. Brother Shen is unfair, having such a pretty sister yet not introducing her to us. If I had met little sister-in-law earlier, my brother wouldn’t have stood a chance," Gu Yang fearlessly said, disregarding Fu Hengyi’s dark expression.

Han Yi’s eyes were full of admiration for Gu Yang. This guy was still as recklessly brave as ever; daring to say such things in front of Fu Hengyi—who knew how he would be dealt with later.

Han Yi thought with a hint of schadenfreude.

"Aunt mentioned over the phone to Grandfather last time that you were too frail, lacking any manly vigor, and hoped you could undergo some training in the military. You’ve graduated from the military academy now, right?" Fu Hengyi said calmly, unperturbed.

Gu Yang’s face instantly fell. He had graduated a year ago and should have been trained with a military unit long ago, but he disliked the military life, so he had been reluctant to go. Although Old Sir Fu was displeased, he was also unwilling to force him.

Seeing Gu Yang quiet down, Fu Hengyi was satisfied.

His wife—could she be teased by anyone else?

Even the most reckless Gu Yang had shut up, so naturally, no one else dared provoke Fu Hengyi.

"Little sister-in-law, if you ever need anything, you can call me. I teach at A University. Which school is little sister-in-law at?" Jiang Chenxi’s speech matched his impression: gentle and composed.

He turned out to be a university teacher, which explained his scholarly aura. Even while seated at a poker table, he didn’t seem like he was up to no good.

"Yes, little sister-in-law, which school do you attend? I can visit you to hang out," Gu Yang fearlessly spoke up again.

Gu Kai kicked him under the table for being oblivious, hadn’t he noticed that Brother Fu’s face was already dark?

"I’m at B University, in the Chinese Department."

"Ah, ah, ah, you’re..." Gu Yang suddenly pointed at Shen Qinglan and shouted excitedly. Everyone at the table turned their eyes on him. "You’re B University’s campus beauty. No wonder your name sounded familiar just now. So you are B University’s aloof campus beauty."

Staring at Shen Qinglan’s face, he asked curiously, "Little sister-in-law, is it true that you’ve received enough love letters to fill up a truck?"

Han Yi, Gu Kai, and Jiang Chenxi all silently averted their gaze, already anticipating Gu Yang’s miserable future.

Shen Qinglan’s lips curved slightly. "What do you think?"

"Well, of course, it’s..." True. But he swallowed those last two words when he met Shen Qinglan’s half-smiling gaze. "Of course, it’s a rumor. Someone as elegant and classy as little sister-in-law wouldn’t be interested in those mundane things."

Shen Qinglan’s beautiful eyes sparkled, looking at Gu Yang with a hint of amusement. This kid knew how to read the room.

"Do you like car racing, little sister-in-law? There’s an underground race happening recently in Beijing, it’s quite exciting. Would you like to check it out?" Gu Yang couldn’t stop.

But as soon as he finished, Fu Hengyi’s chilly voice rang out, "Does Aunt know you go racing?"

Gu Yang shivered and turned mechanically to face Fu Hengyi, having gotten carried away and forgotten his presence.

"Well, bro, I was just joking with sister-in-law. I’ve never raced, not even once. I swear," he said, raising three fingers to make his vow.

Fu Hengyi gave him a deep look, then turned his gaze back to Shen Qinglan, whispering in her ear, "You’re not allowed to go racing with that kid."

Shen Qinglan found it amusing. "Okay."

The room was filled with a faint smoke scent, which Shen Qinglan didn’t much like, though she didn’t show it. After sitting for a while longer, she excused herself to the restroom.

Coming back from the restroom, Shen Qinglan unintentionally glanced downstairs. Her gaze suddenly fixed on a spot.

Taking a step forward, she leaned against the railing to look down. Sure enough, she spotted a familiar figure amidst the crowd. Watching the person in the dance floor held by an unfamiliar man, dancing seductively, Shen Qinglan touched her chin thoughtfully.

What would happen if the entertainment gossip reporters captured this seductive Shen Xitong?

Shen Xitong was in a foul mood today. That morning, she encountered Fu Hengyi, only for her genuine feelings to be trampled. Then, her blind date turned out to be a disaster—a person as unattractive as a gourd dared to make a list of demands.

She didn’t want to go home, nor did she have other places to go. Although she had friends in Beijing, she had been studying abroad for many years and rarely returned. Her relationships with those friends had faded. Even those she kept in touch with stayed connected out of her status as a daughter of the Shen Family. How many were true friends?

She didn’t want to become their laughingstock.

Tonight, Shen Xitong drank heavily for the first time, losing all restraint. A fire burned inside her, which exploded after Fu Hengyi’s rejection.
