The Tycoon's Mysterious Darling Wife
Chapter 394 - 396. Petty Mr. Fu

Chapter 394: 396. Petty Mr. Fu

Jin Enxi hadn’t completely abandoned Annie here; she left behind two men to watch over her, to at least ensure that Annie wouldn’t starve to death.

At first, Annie thought these two men were kidnappers, but after two days with no moves from them, her fear grew even more. Just as she was on edge, almost to the point of collapse, the tightly shut door was opened.

Sunlight streamed in, and two figures stood at the door, backlight making it impossible to see their faces clearly. Annie squinted her eyes shut; the sudden light was harsh on her eyes.

"Well, look at you, Miss High-and-Mighty, enjoying yourself these last couple of days?" Jin Enxi’s flippant voice came from the direction of the door.

Annie immediately opened her eyes and finally managed to see her clearly. Her expression twisted with anger, "It’s you!"

Jin Enxi nodded with a smug smile, "Yep, it’s me. Surprised? Shocked?"

"What exactly do you want? This is kidnapping, and it’s punishable by jail time." Annie was nearly hysterical. These two days had been more terrifying than anything else she’d encountered in over twenty years of life, pushing her to the brink of madness.

Jin Enxi squatted down, "Jail time, oh, I’m so scared," she said with exaggerated fear, not the least bit convincing. Annie turned to Cissily, "I know you, you’re the model Cissily. Are you really going to commit a crime with her? Even if you have a foreign nationality, committing a crime here means you’re still subject to the law. You’ve worked so hard to become an international model, and now you’re going to go crazy with this madwoman?"

Cissily stroked her chin, seemingly in contemplation. Annie’s eyes flickered with hope, thinking she’d persuaded Cissily, but then she heard her say, "What to do, becoming an international model came pretty easy to me, and that reputation doesn’t seem all that important, after all."

Annie almost spat out blood at her words, "You’re all the same. My dad won’t let you get away with this."

Cissily looked at Jin Enxi, "See, she’s got someone to back her up, daddy’s little girl. Aren’t you scared her dad will come after you?"

Jin Enxi erupted in exaggerated laughter, dramatically hugging herself, "Oh, I’m so scared." Her demeanor shifted instantly as she grabbed Annie’s chin, forcing her to look up, "Tell me, what exactly were you trying to do at the hospital? Don’t tell me you were just there to see Eden, I won’t believe such nonsense. If you tell the truth, I might consider being a little gentler with you. If you’re not honest, I have plenty of ways to make you behave."

Her eyes were ice-cold, devoid of any human emotion, like a machine without feeling. Annie shook her head, only to be gripped more painfully, "I really was just there to see Eden."

"Heh, looks like you won’t cry until you see the coffin." Jin Enxi flung her to the ground, grabbed her purse, and pulled out a check for a million, waving it in front of her, "You brought a check for a million with you to see Eden? What, were you planning to hit Eden with the money?"

Annie’s eyes darted anxiously, and she blurted out stubbornly, "Is there something wrong with that?"

"If that’s your idea of generosity, then you’re really stingy. Our Eden is a top-notch doctor, and you think a mere million is enough to satisfy him?"

Cissily stood to the side, watching Jin Enxi become more and more animated, shaking her head helplessly.

Annie argued back, "That was just pocket money I was giving him."

Jin Enxi slapped the check onto her face, grabbing her hair, "You think I’m an idiot to fall for your stupid joke? Tell me, what were you planning to do by bribing the nurse to take Shen Qinglan’s child?"

"I... What child? I have no idea what you’re talking about!" Annie frowned, her face pale, whether from pain or fear.

Jin Enxi raised her hand and slapped her across the face, "I’ve made myself very clear, yet you’re still playing dumb? That’s no fun. If you think you can withstand my methods, feel free to keep your mouth shut."

Blood trickled from the corner of Annie’s mouth; that slap had loosened her teeth.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about. Even though Eden doesn’t like me, I still have the right to like someone. And I didn’t hurt anyone at the hospital. On the contrary, it’s you. By doing this, once I get back, I’ll surely sue you for kidnapping and assault. Then we’ll see if Shen Qinglan can save you."

"Hmm, not a bad idea, I fully support you," Jin Enxi nodded seriously, "But right now the police are looking for you, a suspect fleeing from crime. If we both go out at the same time, who do you think they’ll catch first?"

Annie’s eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Jin Enxi, "You’re talking nonsense. I haven’t fled from any crime. You’re framing me."

"You’re right. Want to go back early to clear things up? Then tell me, what were you planning to do with Shen Qinglan’s child?" Jin Enxi’s voice carried a hint of seduction.

"I didn’t want to take her child. Stop slandering me," Annie insisted adamantly.

Jin Enxi gave a cruel smile and backhanded her again, showing no mercy. Annie’s entire face swelled up from the slap, "Not willing to tell the truth, eh? Alright, let’s try something new. I heard you were quite open abroad, had many boyfriends. Would you mind adding two more? The two studs outside have strong physiques, and their abilities in that department are probably quite good too. You should like them. Want to give it a try?"

Annie shivered slightly, glaring at Jin Enxi with eyes full of hatred, "You’re raping me."

"Hmm, seems about right, but so what? Out here in the wilderness, even if you scream your lungs out, no one will come to your rescue. We’ll just make a video, and do you dare speak out? If you do, I dare to put it on the internet, let everyone appreciate Miss Liang’s grace."

Annie looked down and didn’t speak, while Cissily chuckled lightly, "Why are you wasting words on her? Just make the video. Once we have that, she’ll naturally talk." Saying this, she clapped her hands, about to call in the two men.

Annie panicked, shouting loudly, "Don’t, I’ll talk, I’ll talk."

Jin Enxi let her go and stared at her coldly, "If you had been compliant from the start, it would have been over. I hate having to get violent to make you talk. You’re really asking for it. Go ahead."

Annie lowered her head, "I just wanted to teach Shen Qinglan a lesson. I wasn’t going to do anything to her child—would’ve sent him to an orphanage at most." Seeing Jin Enxi raise her hand to strike again, she hurriedly added, "I’m telling the truth. I was just upset because Eden clearly likes Shen Qinglan. Yet, she still acts all innocent, advising me not to waste any more time on Eden."

"Besides, she’s already married. She should keep her distance from Eden. But does she? Not at all. She even exploits Eden’s feelings for her, getting him to treat her husband. Isn’t that shameful?"

As Annie spoke, reaching an impassioned point, the corners of her eyes filled with resentment when mentioning Shen Qinglan.

Jin Enxi and Cissily exchanged glances, surprised that jealousy was the reason. They felt relieved—thankfully, Eden didn’t like this woman. Her maliciousness probably surpassed even the eye of a needle.

"Why did you choose to take the child?" Jin Enxi asked coldly, not to be paranoid, but this method was too similar to Qin Yan’s tactics from back in the day. Who knew if there was a shadow of Qin Yan behind this person?

"For a mother, the most painful thing is to lose her child," Annie claimed.

"Bang." Cissily kicked her hard in the chest, sending Annie coughing on the ground. Her eyes were chillingly cold; after all, she had also lost a child in the past. She never spoke of it, but in her heart, she deeply regretted that child.

Jin Enxi understood her sorrow and patted her shoulder. Cissily shook her head, indicating she was fine.

Perhaps because of their childhood experiences, the one thing they hated most was someone who exploited children. Annie and Qin Yan’s actions had touched their deepest taboo.

Jin Enxi stood up, looking down at Annie, who lay on the ground. "Since you’ve told the truth, I won’t hit you anymore. After all, your skin is so thick; my hand hurts quite a bit. Let’s play a new game."

Annie’s body shrank, looking at Jin Enxi in fear, "What do you want to do?"

Jin Enxi grinned, and with her baby face, she looked rather adorable, "You’ll find out soon."

Cissily patted her face, "Be good and wait here for me. I’ll be right back."

"You went back on your word, you said you would let me go as long as I told the truth," Annie screamed, her voice trembling with fear.

Jin Enxi looked at her in surprise, "When did I ever say such a thing?"

"It was just now..." Annie started to say instinctively, but then she stopped herself, that’s right, they had never said they would let her go. It was just her wishful thinking all along.

Realizing that they probably never intended to release her, Annie truly began to feel afraid. She was nothing but a pampered daughter, who, despite her usually arrogant and domineering demeanor, was in reality a paper tiger.

"I know I was wrong, I’ll never dare to do it again, please let me go, I swear, I won’t cling to Eden anymore, nor will I go looking for trouble with Shen Qinglan," Annie pleaded, crying.

Jin Enxi looked at her in amazement, crouched down, lifted her head, and looked at her tear-streaked face with disgust, "Wasn’t it only Eden or nobody else, claiming it was the ultimate true love for him? And nothing has been done yet, but you’re now saying you’ll give up on Eden? I’m starting to really doubt whether your feelings for Eden are genuine."

Of course, her feelings were genuine, but set against her own safety, they seemed trivial. And if Eden’s friends were this terrifying, who knew what he was like behind the scenes? She didn’t want to die yet. Love was important, of course, but the most important thing for a woman was to love herself.

"I don’t love him anymore, I can’t do it, is that alright? I can’t love him anymore," Annie sobbed.

Jin Enxi curled her lips in disapproval, a look of disdain flashed in her eyes as she wiped her hand on her clothes, "You claim it’s true love, but you’re just a selfish woman. I now fully understand why Eden doesn’t like you—it’s not because of your obsessive pursuit, but because the person you love the most is yourself. What you feel for Eden isn’t love, it’s possessiveness."

"No, that’s not true, I do love Eden, I truly love him," Annie shouted, it was her first time being truly in love with a man, and she was serious.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a pitiful woman, unable to get him so you resort to self-hypnosis. Yet, the effects of your self-hypnosis seem quite significant," Jin Enxi remarked interestedly.

"Enxi, you sure are talking more and more nonsense these days," Cissily walked in, holding a jar in her hand.

Jin Enxi sheepishly replied, "I’m just bored, that’s all."

Cissily was holding a jar of honey, shook it in front of Annie and said, "This is the finest raw honey, great for beauty and health. I specifically bought it from a beekeeper, but now I’m going to give it to you, even though it’s hard to part with it."

Annie didn’t understand the meaning behind her words, but that soon changed.

"What are you doing? Don’t do it," Annie screamed in horror as she saw the multifunctional military knife in Jin Enxi’s hand, her fear peaking.

Jin Enxi shook her head, "With your courage, you dared to do bad things, but seriously, your luck is just too LOW."

Cissily was more straightforward; she took the knife from Jin Enxi’s hand and quickly slashed Annie’s clothes to tatters, then evenly spread the honey over her skin.

Jin Enxi stood by, watching, "Just think how lucky you are to have such good honey to use as a skincare product, it really breaks my heart."

Annie wore a look of fearful uncertainty, unable to grasp their intentions. It didn’t take long for Jin Enxi to give her the answer, "Hmm, but I suppose this honey must also be the favorite of ants, don’t you think? In these desolate wilds, there’s not much to eat, these ants living here are rather pitiful too. Miss Liang is so kind-hearted, willing to sacrifice herself to feed them."

Upon hearing this, Annie’s eyes widened, "Please, I beg you, leave me be." Her body thrashed violently, desperately rubbing against the ground trying to remove the honey.

Jin Enxi and Cissily stood up, "Enjoy your wonderful time."

"No, come back, come back here!" Annie yelled from behind, but her screams couldn’t bring the two back.

"Ah, aren’t we being too heartless?" Jin Enxi sighed.

Cissily gave her a look, "You can go back."

"I’d rather not, this is her coming across as a femme fatale. I can’t afford to feel sorry for her, actually, I would prefer to just finish her off. It would be so much cleaner."

While driving, Cissily said casually, "We can’t cause trouble for An, In three days, I will have someone take this woman away."

"Where to?"

"She knows it was us. If we let her go back, it will only bring bigger problems for An. To avoid unnecessary trouble for her, we will have to invite this young lady to be a guest elsewhere."

"So we have to keep her for a lifetime?" Jin Enxi asked, with a tone of reluctance, "Or, we could just throw her into the sea and feed her to the sharks."

"Let’s put this off for now. After all, she’s not our focus. The next big act is about to start in Cairo," Cissily said.

Thinking of what they had to do next, Jin Enxi’s expression darkened, "That damned Qin Yan, if she falls into my hands, I can’t let her die easily."

"Why get angry now? Once we catch that woman, we can do whatever we want. The question is whether she will take the bait this time." This was Cissily’s biggest worry; if Qin Yan didn’t bite, their efforts would be in vain.

"Her goals remain unmet. If I were her, I would definitely look for an opportunity to act. An is now staying at the hospital, a place full of people and chaos, which is most conducive to making a move. I bet she will come," Jin Enxi was very confident about this.

"But don’t forget, Qin Yan has no martial arts skills at all. Are you sure she would show up knowing that we already know?" Cissily was uncertain.

"Let’s not worry about that for now. Even if she herself doesn’t come, she definitely won’t miss this opportunity. We’re bound to catch a few fish," Jin Enxi said.

*************

In the hospital, Shen Qinglan looked at Young Master Fu’s sweet sleeping face, her expression warm. She was in her postpartum care period, spending most of her time sleeping, and she didn’t have to worry at all about the baby. Chu Yunrong and Fu Hengyi took care of everything—the only thing she had to do herself was breastfeeding.

Shen Qinglan’s milk was scarce, barely enough for the baby alone, but everyone knows that breast milk is good for a baby, so she decided to breastfeed.

For the baby’s nourishment, these past few days Shen Qinglan had been drinking herbal and nutrient-rich soups, which she herself would have frowned upon before, but now she drank with great eagerness.

Right now, she had just finished a bowl of soup.

"Little guy, mommy’s making a big sacrifice for you," Shen Qinglan said gently, touching the child’s little hand.

When Fu Hengyi came in, he saw his wife talking to their son, not even noticing him and Eden enter.

He had just finished his rehabilitation, pushed in by Eden, "Qinglan," Fu Hengyi called out.

Shen Qinglan turned her head to glance at Fu Hengyi and nodded, "You’re back." Then she turned her head back to look at her son.

Fu Hengyi’s eyes were deep as he watched Shen Qinglan, also saying nothing.

After delivering him, Eden left, but not without a smirk that looked like he was taking pleasure in Fu Hengyi’s predicament, the corners of his mouth raised in schadenfreude.

Perhaps the resentment emanating from Fu Hengyi was too strong, as Qinglan’s gaze finally shifted from the baby to Mr. Fu, "What’s wrong?"

Fu Hengyi averted his gaze and pursed his lips, "Nothing." He couldn’t possibly admit that he was jealous of his own son.

Qinglan looked at Fu Hengyi’s expressionless face and suddenly realized something, a hint of a smile appeared in her eyes, "Fu Hengyi, don’t tell me you’re jealous of your son?"

Fu Hengyi huffed lightly and casually glanced at the little guy lying next to Qinglan, "Would I do that?"

Then you’re not jealous if you say you’re not jealous. Qinglan didn’t argue with him on this point and nodded in agreement, "Hmm, maybe I thought too much. Fu Hengyi, the baby has been born for several days now, we can’t keep calling him ’baby.’ We should think of a nickname first. What do you think we should call him?"

"A boy, huh? Any old name will do, can’t raise him to be too delicate," Fu Hengyi said nonchalantly.

Qinglan: ...The child is only a few days old, how delicate can he be?

"There’s a way to name him that’s not delicate, right?"

"The older generation always says that humble names make for easier upbringing, I think we should call him..." The last few words Fu Hengyi intended to say halted as he met Qinglan’s seemingly smiling gaze.

"What name?" Qinglan asked "gently."

Fu Hengyi thought for a moment, "Let’s call him Anan."

"Anan sounds like a girl’s name," Qinglan frowned. Her English name was An, and she had originally thought of names like Xuanxuan or Momo, which at least sounded like they belonged to a boy.

"Anan is good, peace and safety. I just want you and the baby to be safe and happy," Fu Hengyi said earnestly.

Qinglan met his gaze, her heart touched, "Okay, then we’ll call him Anan." It was just a nickname, something for their family to use, inconsequential, and the meaning behind Anan was quite nice.

Thoughts of it being effeminate were immediately dismissed from Miss Shen’s mind.

Years later, every time Young Master Fu heard his kindergarten teacher call out his pet name, especially when he saw the laughter in other children’s eyes, he harbored some resentment towards the father who had named him.

Having settled on the baby’s nickname, Qinglan looked down at the baby and held his little hand, "Anan, welcome, my precious." Her eyes were tender, and as sunlight spilled in, it bathed her in a layer of radiance. Fu Hengyi watched, his own gaze instinctively softening.

Once the feeling in his legs improved, Fu Hengyi stood up and walked to Qinglan’s side, "Let me take care of the child, you should get some sleep." Last night, Qinglan had woken up several times to feed the baby. Fu Hengyi, of course, felt sorry for her, but feeding was something he really couldn’t help her with.

He had thought about giving the baby formula at night, but the little one, though small, was picky. Ever since he had tasted breast milk, he wouldn’t touch formula at all, and even if you managed to feed it to him, he’d spit it right back out.

Seeing the child sleeping soundly, Qinglan asked, "Can you manage on your own?"

"I can," Fu Hengyi replied. He was a grown man, surely he could handle a baby.

Seeing his confident manner, Qinglan went to sleep reassured. Fu Hengyi sat by, looking at the like-mother-like-son sleeping faces and his gaze filled with tenderness as he looked at little Anan.

He reached out a finger and lightly touched Anan’s little finger, then poked his face gently. Little did he know, this woke Anan up. His big, dark eyes blinked, and the corners of Fu Hengyi’s mouth lifted into a light smile.

The environment was probably too quiet, which made Baby Anan a little uncomfortable. He pursed his little mouth, looking like he was about to cry. Fu Hengyi saw this and quickly went forward to pick him up.

His posture was still clumsy, but it was already much better than at the beginning.

This was the third time he had held a baby in the past few days. The baby was still not familiar with his scent, blinking his eyes and waving his little hands, about to cry. Fu Hengyi immediately stood up and walked out of the hospital room holding the child.

"Hengyi, what are you doing walking up and down the hallway with the baby?" Chu Yunrong saw Fu Hengyi carrying the baby back and forth in the hallway as soon as she arrived, not knowing how long he had been walking.

Fu Hengyi smiled slightly, "Qinglan is sleeping inside. This little guy woke up, and I was worried he’d disturb Qinglan, so I took him for a walk."

The child lay in Fu Hengyi’s arms, eyes wide open, his little hand in his mouth, looking completely content.

Chu Yunrong, worried that Fu Hengyi’s legs couldn’t take it, set her things down and quickly came over to take the baby, "Give him to me. You rest for a bit."

Fu Hengyi nodded, bending slightly, his movement suddenly froze, his expression stiff, "Hengyi, what’s wrong?"

"Mom, he pooped," Fu Hengyi said, his voice sounding somewhat through gritted teeth.

"Hey, isn’t it normal for little kids to poop?" Chu Yunrong didn’t mind it, "And a baby’s poop is clean."

Fu Hengyi’s body was very stiff, especially when he felt the wet, soft thing on his hand. He was motionless. Just now, the baby had squirmed, and his diaper had shifted, leaving Fu Hengyi with a hand full of yellow poop.

Chu Yunrong took the baby, saw the thing on Fu Hengyi’s hand, and laughed, "Alright, you go wash your hands first. I’ll handle things here."

Fu Hengyi glanced at the baby who looked innocent, stepped into the bathroom, and when Fu Hengyi came out again, Chu Yunrong had already changed the diaper. The dirty diaper was set aside.

Fu Hengyi saw it and was about to pick it up when Chu Yunrong stopped him, "Hengyi, leave it, I’ll do it. How can a big man like you wash these things." Even Shen Qian, who had been so good to her, had not washed a diaper when she was doing her postpartum recuperation.

Fu Hengyi picked up the diaper, "Mom, I’ll wash it. You must be tired from rushing from home to the hospital, you should rest." Saying so, he walked into the bathroom again, his face expressionless as he washed the diaper clean and hung it up.

Baby Anan had already fallen asleep in grandma’s arms, completely unaware of the trouble he had caused.

Shen Qinglan was woken up by Chu Yunrong because it was time to feed the baby. Shen Qinglan had been sleeping soundly and was still a bit groggy when she woke up, instinctively lifting her shirt to breastfeed, without noticing that Fu Hengyi was also there.

Fu Hengyi saw a patch of snowy white skin that entered his view, especially the territory that used to belong to him alone but now was occupied by another "man," and the fact that a little hand was still placed there made him feel particularly uncomfortable.

"Mom, how long until the baby can be weaned?" Fu Hengyi asked Chu Yunrong.

Hearing Fu Hengyi’s voice, Shen Qinglan realized he was there too. Seeing him staring straight at her, her ears reddened and she pulled the blanket to block his view, but when she reacted to what Fu Hengyi had said, she almost wanted to punch him.

Chu Yunrong made a sound of realization before saying, "Breast milk is good for the child, so naturally, the longer they can have it, the better. Besides, Qinglan has enough milk supply now. Jun Yu was breastfed for ten months, and Qinglan even longer, a year and a half before being weaned."

"Always getting up in the middle of the night to feed the baby, Qinglan is also tired. Mom, can’t we wean earlier?"

"Every mother goes through this. The baby’s routine is not regular now. In a few months, after some adjustments, when it aligns with the adults’ schedule, it won’t be so tiring anymore," Chu Yunrong explained.

Shen Qinglan glared fiercely at Fu Hengyi from a corner where Chu Yunrong couldn’t see, thinking he wouldn’t be able to cover his pettiness with such a righteous excuse, this petty man.

"But generally, babies can start eating complementary food from four to six months. If you really want to wean them, you can gradually do it then," Chu Yunrong said slowly, quite satisfied in her heart with Fu Hengyi’s concern for Shen Qinglan.

If Chu Yunrong knew what Fu Hengyi was truly thinking, I wonder if she would still feel the same.

Upon hearing this, Fu Hengyi looked at little Anan, who was happily feeding, his face contemplative.

When Pei Yinong arrived with Pei Hao, Shen Qinglan had just finished nursing and was about to have a meal.

"Aunt," the little one called out softly. His mother had told him that his baby brother was still small, so he couldn’t speak loudly as it would scare him.

"Aunt, where’s the little brother?" The youngster was somewhat impatient, and even Shen Qinglan, whom he usually adored, now had to step aside.

Shen Qinglan pointed to the nearby baby crib. "Over there."

It was the little fellow’s first time seeing baby Anan. He tiptoed to the crib and looked at the baby with a face full of curiosity. "Aunt, the little brother is so dark."

Little Anan’s skin hadn’t lightened yet, but it actually looked much better than when he was born. However, Pei Hao didn’t know that.

Pei Yinong laughed, "Newborn babies are like that. You were dark when you were little too, but you got handsome as you grew up."

The little one frowned, "Mom, my brother and I are boys; boys shouldn’t be described as pretty."

"Alright, alright, handsome then," Pei Yinong corrected.

The youngster was very curious about the little baby and stared at him constantly, "Aunt, when can he wake up?"

"He just fell asleep, so he won’t wake up so soon. Do you want to come and have some fruit?" Shen Qinglan’s voice was soft. Her hospital room was filled with fruits, all brought by visitors. She couldn’t finish them all, and had only just given some to the nurses at the nurse station the day before yesterday, and today there were plenty more.

The child shook his head, "I don’t want to eat. Can I just stand here and watch little brother? I promise I won’t wake him up." His face was a picture of innocence.

Shen Qinglan nodded with a smile, "If you get tired of watching, just find a place to sit."

Pei Yinong glanced at the baby, then turned back to Shen Qinglan and said, "His eyes look like yours, but his nose and mouth look like Hengyi’s."

"Mm," Shen Qinglan said tenderly, "Cousin, what brings you here today?"

"I just came back from Lin City and wanted to check on you."

"Is your work in Lin City finished?"

"Yes, I’ve already applied to transfer back to Beijing. Haohao is too small, and it’s not good to be separated all the time. I’ve thought about it and decided to come back. It’s also more convenient to take care of my parents."

Some time ago, Chu Yunjin had taken a fall and injured her back. She had been resting at home all this time. If it weren’t for the fact that she couldn’t move because of her back pain, she would have come personally to see Shen Qinglan.

"Is your aunt’s injury getting better?" Shen Qinglan asked.

Pei Yinong nodded, peeling an apple in her hand for Shen Qinglan, "Much better, but she still can’t get out of bed. Otherwise, she would have come herself. I’ll take a couple of pictures of the baby for her later, she’s been thinking about him for days."

"I have some on my phone." Shen Qinglan picked up her phone and opened the photo album, which was filled with pictures of the child taken by her in the past few days. In just the three days since she woke up, there were already nearly two hundred pictures in the album.

Fu Hengyi had seen them this morning and had jealously glared at Shen Qinglan, only because she had replaced the phone wallpaper with one of little Anan. Finally, to appease a certain jealous friend, Shen Qinglan had changed the wallpaper back to a photo of the two of them together.

"So cute," Pei Yinong said with admiration. "You certainly have the touch of an artist; even the photos you take look better than others." She took out her own phone, selected a few pictures, and transferred them to her device.

An hour later, Pei Hao finally lost interest and said to Shen Qinglan, "Aunt, the little brother is such a good sleeper." He had been asleep for so long without any sign of waking up.

"He’s still young now. He needs sleep to grow. When he’s as tall as you, he’ll be able to play with you," Shen Qinglan said with a smile, noticing that the youngster seemed sleepy. "Haohao, if you’re tired, you can sleep on that bed over there."

"Qinglan, maybe I should take him back," Pei Yinong spoke up.

"No, Mom, I want to wait here for little brother to wake up. I don’t want to go back," Pei Hao protested.

"Are you not tired?" Pei Yinong looked at him.

"Then I can sleep here for a while, and you can wake me up when the little brother wakes up," the little guy bargained with Pei Yinong.

"Alright, I’ll wake you up when your brother wakes up, but you must not cry," Pei Yinong warned, knowing that the boy sometimes had severe morning crankiness.

"Okay." The child obediently nodded. Pei Yinong picked him up and put him to bed, then continued to chat with Shen Qinglan about the experiences of motherhood.

"This kid has been talking about seeing his little brother. He was so excited last night when he knew he was coming to see you today that he stayed up until twelve and wouldn’t sleep. He woke up on his own this morning and only now starting to feel sleepy," Pei Yinong said with a laugh.

Shen Qinglan also laughed, tenderly glancing at the little fellow who had already started to snooze soundly. After all, it was because of the child that she realized kids weren’t as scary as she thought. She had only encountered special children. Normal children are innocent and kind.

"Now that Cousin will be working in Beijing, bring Haohao over to play at our place when you have time. It’s more lively for the two kids to have company."

"I will." Pei Yinong didn’t stand on ceremony with her, for Shen Qinglan was like a sister to her, and there was no need for formalities between sisters.

Fu Hengyi had gone to his rehabilitation session after Pei Yinong’s arrival and had not woken up by lunchtime, which suggested that the intensity of the rehab had once again increased.

"By the way, how is your husband Fu Hengyi’s leg now?" Pei Yinong eventually remembered to ask about Fu Hengyi.

"It’s much better. The doctor says that at the current rate, it should heal in a month, and full recovery should take two months."

"He’ll go to the Beijing Military Region after he recovers?"

"Yes, everything here has been handed over. We’re just waiting for his injury to heal before he takes up his new post."

"That’s good, otherwise you two have been apart more than together. It was alright before, but now with a child, it’s different," Pei Yinong said.

As the two were chatting away, little Anan woke up, probably realizing that no one was paying attention to him, and immediately started crying at the top of his lungs.
