Chapter 330: 332. Report to the Police (Second Update)

Zhao Jiaqing didn’t see it coming and was struck squarely by Yan Anbang. Her head jerked to one side. She touched her face as if she couldn’t feel the pain there, her gaze cold as she stared at Yan Anbang, "You only care about your little mistress. Have you forgotten that Ya Xi is your daughter?"

Yan Anbang’s expression shifted slightly, "What’s wrong with Ya Xi?"

"Ha ha, what’s wrong with Ya Xi? Yan Anbang, I’m asking you, did you tell this woman about Ya Xi? You know Ya Xi can’t handle any stress right now, yet you let her go to Xueli City. What are you trying to do?"

"No, you’ve never regarded Ya Xi as your own daughter." Remembering something, Zhao Jiaqing’s eyes became so fierce as if she could eat him alive, "Yan Anbang, there’s a saying that even a tiger wouldn’t eat its own cubs, but you are worse than an animal. Even if you hate me, Ya Xi is innocent. Why do you do this to her?"

Yan Anbang frowned at her, "Zhao Jiaqing, what nonsense are you spouting here? When did Yanyan go to Xueli City?"

Zhao Jiaqing let out a cold laugh, her gaze icy, "Yan Anbang, you shouldn’t have joined the army; you should have become an actor. Perhaps the Oscar would already be yours."

"I don’t understand what you’re saying. Apologize to Yanyan right now, and then get out of my house!"

"Yan Anbang, you play your role so well, I almost fell for it. I thought you were not a good husband, but at least a good father. Now I realize you’re just a beast. Ya Xi is your biological daughter; how could you be so heartless to her!"

One demanding an apology, the other hurling accusations, the two were talking about completely different things.

Qin Yan collapsed to the ground, head hung low, her eyes filled with a smile. Let them fight, the more they fought, the better she liked it; life had been too calm for too long.

Keep it up, Zhao Jiaqing, keep causing a scene. It would be best to make it known far and wide how Yan Anbang ruined Ya Xi’s life. She’s the daughter you carried for ten months, your flesh and blood, yet destroyed by Yan Anbang. Be angry, resist, and drag Yan Anbang down to hell with you.

Qin Yan recited this silently in her heart. Seeing the two begin to physically fight, she hurriedly struggled to her feet and grabbed Zhao Jiaqing. "Stop fighting, let’s talk this out. Ya Xi is Anbang’s daughter, he would never harm her. There’s definitely been a misunderstanding."

But Zhao Jiaqing’s mind was already dominated by rage. She wanted to fight Yan Anbang to the death, to destroy each other. Seeing Qin Yan block her, and thinking of how her daughter suffered due to this woman’s daughter, she couldn’t contain her hatred.

She slapped Qin Yan across the face and then backhanded her again. By the time Yan Anbang reacted and pulled Qin Yan back, Qin Yan’s face was already swollen from the blows. Yan Anbang, who had solely tried to intervene without retaliating when Zhao Jiaqing had attacked him, suddenly became furious and started to beat Zhao Jiaqing brutally without holding back.

Once Yan Anbang was serious, Zhao Jiaqing didn’t stand a chance and could only take the beating. Qin Yan stood to the side, watching quietly, calling out, "Don’t hit her. Stop it."

Finally, seeing that Zhao Jiaqing was close to being beaten to death, she pulled Yan Anbang back, "Anbang, stop! Another hit and it could be fatal." Panic filled her voice, snapping Yan Anbang back to his senses.

Yan Anbang then realized what he had just done, looking at Zhao Jiaqing with a trace of regret in his heart.

Zhao Jiaqing stared fiercely at Yan Anbang, "If you don’t kill me today, I will make sure you’re ruined tomorrow."

The anger that had just subsided in Yan Anbang’s heart flared up again, but he was held back tightly by Qin Yan, "Anbang, calm down." She looked at Zhao Jiaqing on the ground, "Aren’t you leaving? Do you really want to be beaten to death?"

Zhao Jiaqing got up from the ground, "Yan Anbang, from today on, we are irreconcilable enemies. Whatever you did to Ya Xi, I will return it to you double. You’d better keep a close watch on your precious mistress because if something happens to her..."

"Zhao Jiaqing."

"Anbang, don’t say anymore."

She walked out of the Yan Family home, glancing back coldly at the house she had lived in for over twenty years, feeling for the first time how dirty it was.

She was a mess, her hair disheveled, her clothes in disarray, and her face marked with bruises. She hailed a cab, "To the hospital!"

The taxi driver was a woman who glanced at Zhao Jiaqing through the rearview mirror with a sympathetic look. It was clear that she had been a victim of domestic abuse.

"You were beaten by your husband, weren’t you? Let me tell you, you should go to the police station right now and report him for domestic violence. You can’t just endure this in silence. If it happens once, it will happen again. If you didn’t fight back the first time he hit you, he’s going to get used to it, and you’re the one who will suffer."

Zhao Jiaqing didn’t speak. The taxi driver, with a kind heart, thought Zhao Jiaqing was too scared to act and continued to persuade her. "I bet this isn’t the first time he’s hit you. You should go to the hospital now. If you go home, he’ll hit you again. But if you report him, those injuries on your body are all evidence. The police won’t ignore this. Women’s rights are protected these days; you should sue him for domestic violence."

The hospital Zhao Jiaqing was headed to wasn’t far. Upon arrival, she walked straight into the hospital and asked for an injury assessment.

After examining her, the doctor who assessed her injuries prescribed her medication. Watching her leave, he shook his head with a sigh. Another woman suffering domestic abuse, too afraid to speak up.

After leaving the hospital, Zhao Jiaqing marched straight into the police station. She slammed the injury report onto the desk and said coldly, "I want to report a case of intentional harm!"

The police officer looked up and saw Zhao Jiaqing’s bruised and battered face.

"Are you saying your ex-husband did this to your face?" the officer asked.

Zhao Jiaqing nodded. "Not just my face, my body too. This is the injury report I just got from the hospital. I want to charge him with intentional harm."

The officer took notes carefully. "What’s your ex-husband’s name, and what’s his contact number?"

"His name is Yan Anbang," Zhao Jiaqing said.

The officer paused, looking at Zhao Jiaqing. "You said his name is what?"

"Yan Anbang," Zhao Jiaqing repeated. The officer heard her clearly this time and looked at her seriously. "You mean Yan Anbang of the Yan Family?"

"Yes!"

The officer put down his pen. "Ms. Zhao, here’s the thing. Even though you’re the victim, there are legal consequences for false accusations too. Are you sure you want to sue him?"

"I am sure. Can we open the case now?" asked Zhao Jiaqing, her face stern.

Seeing she was not joking, the officer picked up his pen and resumed taking notes.

"Ms. Zhao, regarding your claims, we will have our colleagues verify them shortly. If we find out they are true, we will contact you again. Please make sure to stay reachable in the next few days."

"Thank you, Officer. I will be staying in the country during this period and would appreciate your attention to my case," Zhao Jiaqing said politely before returning to the hotel.

As she lay on the bed, her eyes were icy cold, as if she couldn’t feel the pain in her body.

In fact, she possessed some evidence of Yan Anbang’s abuse of power for personal gain. Yan Anbang had been in his position for so many years; it was impossible for him to be completely clean. Zhao Jiaqing, who had been his wife for many years, had even handled such matters for him in the past. The evidence she had was from that time; she had forgotten to destroy it, and now it had unexpectedly become an ace up her sleeve.

She had thought about submitting the evidence, but on her way to the Yan Family’s place, she concluded that exposing Yan Anbang for these reasons might lead to his utter disgrace and ruin his career. He could even be taken in for questioning, but it would inevitably affect Yan Shengyu’s career. He was working at a top company, satisfied with both his salary and his position.

Her son was so talented and was going to become even more so. She didn’t think it was a good trade to hinder Yan Shengyu’s future over someone like Yan Anbang. If she could exchange a beating for other evidence to bring down Yan Anbang, Zhao Jiaqing was willing. This had also been her sudden thought while examining the documents on her way to the Yan Family’s place, but what she hadn’t expected was how cooperative Qin Yan would turn out to be.

Falling down the stairs on purpose, were you? Framing her? If it had been the old Zhao Jiaqing who still loved Yan Anbang, she might have been heartbroken and cared. But not the current Zhao Jiaqing.
