Chapter 329: 331. Zhenzhen Real and Fake (1 more update)

On a winter afternoon, sunlight spilled into the hospital room, where Shen Qinglan lay on a recliner basking in the sun streaming in from the window. Fu Hengyi sat beside her, holding a device against her abdomen, listening intently.

"Seems like it’s sped up a bit," Fu Hengyi said, noting down the baby’s data on paper.

Suddenly, a small handprint protruded from Shen Qinglan’s belly. Fu Hengyi’s gaze softened as he gently touched it with one finger, and the little hand immediately retracted. After a while, a tiny foot appeared on Shen Qinglan’s stomach, causing her to cry out softly.

Fu Hengyi frowned, "What’s wrong, did the baby kick you and hurt you?"

Shen Qinglan smiled faintly, "Such a mischievous little guy. I guess he’ll be a handful once he’s born."

Fu Hengyi’s brows furrowed as he intently watched Shen Qinglan’s belly, "My girl, you can’t be this naughty in the future; it hurts mommy."

At these words, Shen Qinglan felt amused yet somewhat helpless inside. Since she had come back, Fu Hengyi had been convinced that the child in her womb was a girl. She thought for a moment and asked tentatively, "You always say it’s a girl, but what if it turns out to be a son, would you not want him?"

Fu Hengyi spoke calmly, "It’s definitely a daughter; I’ve dreamt of her several times already."

Shen Qinglan really wanted to tell him that he was simply dreaming what he’d been thinking about all day. The child in her belly really was a boy, "But what if it really is a son?"

Fu Hengyi shrugged, "The grandfathers would be happy since they like great-grandsons. We can just leave him with them." That way, this little rascal won’t have a chance to cling to his wife. Fu Hengyi thought secretly to himself.

Later, when Young Master Fu grew up a bit, learned to walk and talk, he was often left with the two old gentlemen, who were utterly delighted. But Young Master Fu would look at Miss Shen with teary eyes and ask, "Mama, am I not papa’s biological child? Does he not like me? Is that why he won’t let me stay with you?"

Miss Shen, seeing his teary eyes, couldn’t bear to tell him that Mr. Fu had been so eager for a daughter that he was gloomy inside when he ended up with a son instead.

If Mr. Fu knew what Miss Shen was thinking, he would surely tell me, "I merely don’t want this little brat monopolizing my wife."

Shen Qinglan watched Mr. Fu talk about his daughter with tenderness and about his son with a look of disdain, silently wiping away a bitter tear for the son in her belly.

Nancheng.

Zhao Jiaqing looked at the information in her hands, her expression cold, "I’ve paid you so much money, and this is all you give me?"

The private detective also had his share of grievances, "Madam, you never mentioned that your ex-husband was a senior officer. Had I known what he did for a living, I wouldn’t have taken the job, no matter how much you paid me. I nearly got myself caught trying to get this information."

Zhao Jiaqing knew that as a senior officer, much of Yan Anbang’s information was classified, difficult to obtain for the average person. She flipped through the information and saw that the content was fairly detailed. Her expression softened, "Here is the rest of the money."

The private detective counted the money and called after Zhao Jiaqing, "Wait, madam, this isn’t the right amount, is it?"

Zhao Jiaqing turned around, "We agreed on fifty thousand, not a penny less."

The private detective chuckled, "Fifty thousand is the price for ordinary people. Is your ex-husband an ordinary person? I almost got caught trying to get this information. Even if I didn’t do a great deed, I did hard work. You should give me an extra hardship fee."

Zhao Jiaqing frowned. She disliked people who raised their prices after the fact, "The price was agreed upon. It’s not right for you to do this now, is it?"

"But you didn’t explain your ex-husband’s situation to me. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have agreed on this price. Madam, I know you don’t want others to know you’re investigating your ex-husband. Just give me a little extra for my troubles, and I guarantee it will be known only to heaven, you, and me. No third person will find out."

"You’re blackmailing me."

The private detective smiled smugly, "How could this be considered blackmail? I worked for you, you pay me; it’s only natural."

Zhao Jiaqing was unwilling to get entangled with him any longer, pondered for a moment, and pulled out a stack of cash from her bag, "That’s all there is, take it or leave it."

The private detective took it with a smile, "Mrs., you are indeed a straightforward person. Take care, and if there’s ever anything like this again remember to look for me. Considering our acquaintance, I’ll definitely give you a 10% discount."

Zhao Jiaqing frowned in disgust and hastened her step.

The private detective curled his lip and a hint of disdain flashed in his eyes. She was just a poor woman abandoned by her husband, acting all proud for what?

Zhao Jiaqing returned to the hotel, carefully examined the information given by the private detective. There was very little about Yan Anbang, even less than what she knew herself; she could only set this aside and look at Qin Yan’s information. After looking at it, Zhao Jiaqing’s brows furrowed even deeper. There seemed to be a lot about Qin Yan, but there wasn’t much useful information.

Suddenly, Zhao Jiaqing’s gaze paused on a segment of text. Qin Yan had once gone mad because of the loss of her daughter and had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Later, she had escaped from the psychiatric hospital when the doctors were not paying attention, and was cornered in an alley by some thugs, and then was rescued by her ex-husband who took her abroad.

Zhao Jiaqing thoughtfully remembered that Qin Yan originally told Yan Anbang that she was in another city and had not gone abroad, yet the information now showed that she had gone abroad. Was the information incorrect, or was Qin Yan lying?

Zhao Jiaqing couldn’t understand. Even if she had gone abroad, it wasn’t something that couldn’t be mentioned. Why then did Qin Yan lie, and what exactly did Qin Yan mean by talking about retribution?

Before Zhao Jiaqing could figure it out, the private detective called her, "I’ve already given you the money, are you still trying to extort me?" Her tone was unfriendly.

The private detective chuckled, "Mrs., don’t be nervous. I’m not asking you for money. After you left, I accidentally stumbled upon something that might be useful to you, so I thought of bringing it to you. Rest assured, I won’t charge you a penny for this information."

Zhao Jiaqing looked at the documents on the table, and her face immediately changed, "Where did you get these?"

"I can’t tell you the channels, after all, it’s how I make a living, but I can assure you that this information is true," the private detective said. "Although I love money and sometimes do some, cough, not very ethical things for it, I do have professional integrity."

Zhao Jiaqing didn’t say a word, simply took out another stack of cash from her bag, and then got up and left.

The private detective shrugged his shoulders; this was not him asking for it, but the patron rewarding him.

Zhao Jiaqing returned to the hotel, looked at the information, and her complexion turned very pale. So, that was it, it was because of this that her Ya Xi had encountered those things she should never have suffered.

Yan Anbang, you harmed my daughter, it was you who harmed my daughter!

Crazy hate filled the depths of Zhao Jiaqing’s eyes as she took a taxi straight to the Yan Family’s house. She was in luck this time, not only was Qin Yan at home, but Yan Anbang was also there.

Zhao Jiaqing shoved Qin Yan aside and walked straight in, "Yan Anbang, get out here!"

Qin Yan followed in, "Sister, lower your voice a little. Anbang is resting upstairs, you will disturb him like this."

Zhao Jiaqing had no intention of dealing with Qin Yan. Knowing that Yan Anbang was resting upstairs, she immediately went upstairs, "Yan Anbang, come out."

Qin Yan blocked her, "You can’t go up right now. Anbang is sleeping; I’ll go call him."

Zhao Jiaqing looked at her coldly, "Get out of my way." Qin Yan would not move, and as Zhao Jiaqing tried to pull her aside, Qin Yan screamed sharply as she tumbled down.

Yan Anbang, who was resting, heard the commotion downstairs. Coming out, he witnessed Zhao Jiaqing pushing Qin Yan down the stairs and, shocked, quickly rushed toward Qin Yan, "Yanyan, are you okay?"

Fortunately, the place where Qin Yan was standing wasn’t high and there was a carpet on the floor; other than spraining her ankle, there seemed to be no other issue.

Zhao Jiaqing was still stunned when Yan Anbang’s slap had already met her face, "Zhao Jiaqing, you wicked woman, what exactly are you trying to do here?"
