Chapter 286: 286. Tranquility (8 more updates)
Two days passed, and the police visited again, but this time they were looking for Old Sir Fu.
"Old Sir, here’s the situation: Lin Hao has confessed. He paid someone to cause the car accident involving Mr. Gu Bowen," said the same two officers who had previously visited, the older one speaking.
Old Sir Fu’s face darkened, his eyes shifting unpredictably, "You mean that the accident wasn’t really an accident?"
"Yes, we are currently searching for the person based on Lin Hao’s confession and will certainly bring the suspect to justice. If you have any leads, please let us know."
"Okay, thank you so much for your efforts, officers," Old Sir Fu said politely.
The police didn’t immediately leave and instead turned to Shen Qinglan, "The earlier incident where your friend Yu Xiaoxuan was threatened was also done by Lin Hao. We will be filing a lawsuit against Lin Hao soon, and if you have any requests, feel free to contact us."
"Thank you, officers."
After the police left, Old Sir Fu’s expression turned cold, "I really don’t know how the Lin Family educates their children, to raise such a scoundrel. If it were my son, I would break his legs."
Shen Qinglan chuckled, "Grandfather, why be angry over an unrelated outsider?"
Hearing this, Old Sir Fu also found it amusing, "Right, it’s not worth spoiling my mood over an outsider. Qinglan girl, you’re almost three months pregnant, aren’t you?"
Shen Qinglan nodded, "Yes, it’s almost three months."
"Hengyi has been away for quite a while this time. Let your aunt or your mother accompany you to the prenatal checkup the day after tomorrow."
"There’s no need, Grandfather, Fu Hengyi called me last night and said he would return tomorrow. He can accompany me then."
"That’s good. That boy, knowing his wife is pregnant yet still working so relentlessly, not knowing how to pamper his wife. It’s really your understanding nature. Anyone else might have made a fuss with him."
Shen Qinglan smiled, "Grandfather, Fu Hengyi’s work is such that he can’t help but indulge in it. From the time I married him, I was prepared for it emotionally. I’m proud that he is a soldier who defends our country."
Old Sir Fu smiled contentedly, "Hengyi is also fortunate to have married you. Tomorrow when Hengyi comes back, have Aunt Zhao go with you to the hospital. It’s good to have someone to look after each other."
Shen Qinglan nodded with a smile, "Okay."
Gu Bowen had already been discharged and returned home for recuperation, and Fu Jingtong had moved back to the Gu Family, so now only Old Sir Fu and Shen Qinglan were left in the Fu Family residence.

Fu Hengyi returned the next afternoon. When he arrived, Shen Qinglan was taking a nap upstairs. He walked gently into the room, looking at the person wrapped up like a cocoon on the bed, his eyes filled with a tender smile.
He quietly sat down by the bed, admiring the sweetly sleeping figure, his eyes tender as waves, gently enveloping Shen Qinglan.
The room was warm, Shen Qinglan’s cheeks were rosy, and a few strands of hair lay across her face. Fu Hengyi reached out to brush them aside, not expecting to wake her.
Shen Qinglan’s eyes, still cloudy from sleep, recognized the person in front of her and sparkled as she sat up, "Fu Hengyi, you’re back."
It had been over a month since they last saw each other, and even though Fu Hengyi called her every day, seeing him in person felt very different.
Fu Hengyi leaned down and gave Shen Qinglan a long kiss, expressing his longing through his actions until his body reacted and he stopped. His gaze fell on Shen Qinglan’s belly, filled with a rueful longing; if not for this little one, he wouldn’t be like this now, holding his wife, able to look and touch but unable to do more.
Shen Qinglan caught the meaning in his eyes and couldn’t help but laugh, "Go take a shower first."
Fu Hengyi looked at his lower body helplessly, got up, and went into the bathroom, taking a cold shower in the middle of winter. It was really tough, and he swore to himself that after this child was born, he would never have a second one.
While Fu Hengyi was showering, Shen Qinglan got out of bed to get some fresh clothes for him, and they went downstairs together after he finished.
"Wait, I’ll carry you down," he said at the staircase, then picked Shen Qinglan up around her waist and even hefted her a bit, frowning, "Didn’t you say you stopped throwing up? Why are you still so light; haven’t you been eating well?"
"I eat five or six meals a day now," Shen Qinglan replied somewhat helplessly. Despite eating quite a bit each day, her weight just wouldn’t increase, worrying Chu Yunrong who constantly thought of ways to cook delicious food for her, hoping she would eat more and gain some weight.
Aunt Zhao, seeing the way they came downstairs, covered her mouth and laughed, "Qinglan, I’ve prepared some noodles, pastries, and chicken soup. Which would you like?"
"Some chicken soup, please. And prepare a bowl of chicken noodle soup for Fu Hengyi."
"Okay, just a moment," Aunt Zhao said, turning to enter the kitchen.
Fu Hengyi had rushed home from the base and hadn’t even eaten lunch. He was really hungry now and finished the large bowl of noodles Aunt Zhao served.
Shen Qinglan hadn’t finished her chicken soup yet; watching Fu Hengyi, her eyes innocent, Fu Hengyi, without a word, picked up the soup and drank it all down.
"Going out for a walk?" Fu Hengyi asked.
Qinglan nodded, and Fu Hengyi turned to go upstairs, returning with a down jacket and a scarf, both belonging to Qinglan.
November in Beijing was already bitterly cold; although it hadn’t snowed recently, the temperature was very low. Fu Hengyi wrapped Qinglan up like a round ball, ensuring she wouldn’t be chilled by the cold wind, before taking her outside.
Qinglan looked at herself, bundled up in multiple layers, and then at Fu Hengyi, who only wore a sweater and a wool coat, and couldn’t help but feel speechless. She really wasn’t that cold.
"You can’t afford to catch a cold now, it’s safer to wear more," Fu Hengyi spoke first as he walked to the door, crouched down, and changed Qinglan’s shoes. Qinglan watched the top of his dark head, her eyes filled with tenderness.
Fu Hengyi held Qinglan’s hand in his palm and then tucked it into his pocket. The two of them walked around the large courtyard, heading straight to the Shen Family’s house.
"Why did you come over in such cold weather?" Chu Yunrong saw them and hurriedly let them in.
Fu Hengyi smiled. "We came to see Mom and Grandpa."
"I and your grandpa are both fine, you didn’t need to check on us. You just got back from the military today, have you eaten?"
"We’ve already eaten. Mom, where is Grandpa?"
"Your grandpa is in the greenhouse."
Qinglan sat down in the living room while Fu Hengyi went out to find Old Sir Shen in the greenhouse.
"Qinglan, you have a prenatal check-up tomorrow, should Mom accompany you?"
"No need, Mom, Fu Hengyi will go with me."
Chu Yunrong nodded. "That’s also good."
While they were talking, the sound of a car engine followed by hurried footsteps came from the yard, and Little Douding’s voice appeared at the door, "Mom, hurry up."
"What’s the rush? Slow down a bit for me; if you fall, I’m not helping you," Pei Yinong said.
"Mom, you’re too slow, like a turtle. I’m going ahead without waiting."
In an instant, Little Douding saw Qinglan, shouted "Auntie," and rushed towards Qinglan. Chu Yunrong watched anxiously, hoping he wouldn’t bump into Qinglan. Just as she thought to scoop Little Douding up, he stopped in front of Qinglan, studying her belly, looking like he wanted to come closer but didn’t dare.
Qinglan looked at him. "Haohao, what’s wrong?"
"Auntie, Mom said you’re going to have a baby brother, and she told me not to hug you because it might hurt the baby brother."
Hearing this, Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh. She pulled Little Douding into her lap, "Did Mom tell you Auntie is having a baby?"
Little Douding nodded, his gaze still fixed on Qinglan’s stomach. "Mom said there’s a baby brother in Auntie’s belly, but why can’t I see him?"
Qinglan, who was just three months pregnant and not yet showing, naturally couldn’t show anything. She spoke gently, "The baby brother is still small, you’ll be able to see him once he grows a bit bigger."
In September, Little Douding had started kindergarten, so it had been a while since Qinglan had seen him.
"Get down from your Auntie now, she’s carrying a baby and can’t hold you anymore," Pei Yinong entered and saw Little Douding climbing on Qinglan again and quickly spoke.
"Cousin, it’s okay, I can still hold him." Qinglan was just letting Little Douding sit on her lap after all, she could manage that much strength.
Little Douding remembered what his mother had said before they left, so although he was sitting on Qinglan’s legs, he didn’t fidget and was very well-behaved. "Auntie, I just came back from kindergarten today, Mom said to bring me to see Auntie’s baby."
Qinglan smiled. "The baby is still small now, you won’t be able to see him yet, but in a few months you will."
"How long is a few months?"
"After the New Year," Qinglan said, her due date was in late April next year.
Little Douding looked disappointed. "That’s still so long."
"By that time, Haohao will be four years old, a little man able to help Auntie take care of the baby, isn’t that nice?"
Little Douding tilted his head to think for a moment. "After the New Year is also good, I can help Auntie take care of the baby. I have lots of toys; we can play together." Looking at Pei Yinong, he leaned close to Qinglan’s ear and whispered, "I’ve also hidden lots of snacks; we can share them with the baby, but Auntie, don’t tell Mom, she’ll take them away if she finds out."
Listening, Qinglan couldn’t help but chuckle; she nodded and lowered her voice, "Okay, I won’t tell Mom."
