Chapter 282: 282. Allen’s Warning (4 more updates)

Mrs. Jin’s heart sank abruptly, "King, speak directly, don’t beat around the bush."

"I too would like to know what you mean, Mrs. Jin. Did you pay someone to take my life, and now you’re calling to brag about it? Do you think I really wouldn’t dare to touch you?"

Mrs. Jin’s expression changed slightly, "King, do you think I was the one behind this?"

"If it wasn’t you, who was it?" King spoke resentfully. He had originally thought it was some enemy, but after much investigation, it turned out to be his own business partner. If it weren’t for the fact that many people were searching for him outside, King would have already confronted Mrs. Jin to settle the account.

"King, you’ve fallen into someone else’s trap; I didn’t do this. We’ve worked together for many years; you should understand me."

"I haven’t even met you face-to-face; I can’t confidently say that I understand you," King said coldly. His dealings with Mrs. Jin had always been through telephone contact, and over the many years, he hadn’t even caught a glimpse of her sleeve. "Our partnership was known only between you and me; you’re telling me now that this wasn’t your doing – that someone is framing you. Do you take me for a three-year-old child?"

Mrs. Jin now realized she had been manipulated, but her collaboration with King was clandestine—with only the two of them aware. Claiming she was framed was indeed far-fetched. No, that’s wrong—Mrs. Jin’s thoughts shifted, as she thought of someone who could make this plausible.

Mrs. Jin explained to King for a long while, and it was half an hour later before she managed to clarify the situation and calm King’s mood.

"Since you say it wasn’t you, then you must know who this person is, right? Who is it?"

Without any hesitation, Mrs. Jin spoke, "I don’t know who it is, but I suspect it’s Ryan. Don’t forget, last time you retaliated against Ryan, and it almost cost him his life. He even lost his right-hand, left-hand men. It’s normal for someone like him to want revenge."

Mrs. Jin analyzed the likelihood and motivation for Ryan to act. It made a lot of sense, and King seemed convinced, "That old bastard wants to kill me? We’ll see about that. I want to see whose life lasts longer." After saying this, King hung up the phone without waiting for Mrs. Jin to respond.

Only then did Mrs. Jin realize that after all the explanations to King, she hadn’t got to say what she originally planned.

After King hung up the phone, his expression was inscrutable, "Boss, do you really think Ryan did this? Can we trust what Mrs. Jin said?" asked the person beside him.

King sneered, "That woman is ruthless; her words can only be trusted partially. Even if she didn’t do it, she probably knows who did."

The person beside him nodded in agreement, being one of King’s most trusted associates. Even he had only recently heard about Mrs. Jin from King.

"Boss, who exactly is this Mrs. Jin? Have you never seen her true face either?"

King’s expression was unreadable, "Behind Mrs. Jin stand several powers, even the Yamaguchi Group from Country R has dealings with her. But as to who she is, what she looks like, her age—not a single person knows."

It was indeed quite mysterious.

Mrs. Jin had already guessed who had been slinging mud at her. Considering that only one other person knew her identity and her relationship with King, she dialed Allen’s number, but he didn’t pick up.

Undeterred, Mrs. Jin called Allen three times until he finally answered. Listening to Allen’s indifferent tone, Mrs. Jin felt her anger rising.

"Paying someone to take King’s life and framing me for it—you did it, didn’t you?" Mrs. Jin didn’t want to waste words and got straight to the point.

"It was me," Allen admitted without hesitation.

Mrs. Jin gritted her teeth, "Allen, I was once your father’s wife and your stepmother. We were in this together. How can you do this to me, disrespecting your deceased father?"

Allen scoffed, "NONONO, let me correct you. You remarried after my father died. You’re not my stepmother. Let me think, how many men have you married since? One, two, three... Ah, too many to count."

Mrs. Jin’s face darkened, "Allen, don’t go too far."

"That’s exactly what I want to say to you. I’m not interested in how many men you’ve been with, but if you mess with Shen Qinglan, I’ll make sure you won’t have a grave to be buried in. I know you’re behind the recent disturbances, and I advise you to stop immediately. Otherwise, it won’t be long before the underworld realizes what kind of woman the infamous Mrs. Jin really is."

"Allen, I’m trying to help you. Don’t you want Shen Qinglan? She’s married another man now and is even about to have his children. Can you really stand idly by and watch?"

Allen’s expression changed, "This is my business, not yours. I can take my woman back myself. If you dare harm a single hair on Shen Qinglan’s head, mark my words, I might just have to show Mrs. Jin what the Beast Cage tastes like."

"You wouldn’t dare."

Allen chuckled lightly, his voice hoarse and unpleasant yet chillingly cold, "You know I dare."

Mrs. Jin dared not say anything more, "Alright, I understand."

After hanging up the phone, Mrs. Jin smashed her phone to pieces, her face livid with rage. Yet, she was powerless against Allen; Allen was that man’s son, the only thing that man had left in the world. She didn’t want to and couldn’t do anything to Allen; she even had to cover up Allen’s past.

**************

Early in the morning, Shen Qinglan received a call from Jin Enxi, "An, I have something very interesting to tell you. You’ll definitely be interested."

Shen Qinglan was groggy with sleep; she was very sleepy these days and could sleep for a long time. Although she wasn’t irritable from being woken up, she wasn’t particularly interested in what Jin Enxi found so fascinating.

Jin Enxi was very excited and, without noticing the sleepiness in Shen Qinglan’s voice, began speaking, "When I was investigating Mrs. Jin, wasn’t I discovered and then obstructed from finding anything about her? I just decided to blame her for putting out the task that was assigned. I bet when King traces it back to her, his expression will be priceless."

"Is that what you’re talking about?" Shen Qinglan asked, her tone indifferent.

Jin Enxi puzzled, "Is this not an interesting matter? Today, I heard that King seems to be looking for Mrs. Jin’s location. I guess these two are going to clash, a dog-eat-dog scenario, how entertaining."

Shen Qinglan woke up a bit more and said, "They won’t clash. If Mrs. Jin was that easy to handle, she wouldn’t be Mrs. Jin." For all these years, even someone as well-informed as Jin Enxi didn’t know that such a person existed in the underworld, which shows that Mrs. Jin is capable. If she were troubled by such a small thing, then Shen Qinglan would have doubts about whether Mrs. Jin was even real.

"Was it all a futile effort?" Jin Enxi was somewhat unwilling to accept that.

"Not exactly. This also forced Mrs. Jin out into the open. If she makes a move in retaliation, we will get to see her strength." This made sense, and Jin Enxi became interested again.

"Okay, I’ll keep an eye on it. I want to see what kind of person Mrs. Jin really is."

After Jin Enxi finished explaining the situation, she belatedly realized that it was Shen Qinglan’s sleeping time.

"That Shen Qinglan, you go back to sleep, I’m hanging up."

Shen Qinglan was indeed still sleepy. Putting her phone away, she closed her eyes and was ready to sleep. Last night, because of the painting requested by Daniel, she slept very heavily, and being pregnant made her mind even fuzzier.

When Daniel arrived, Shen Qinglan was still not up. Fu Jingtong, who unusually hadn’t gone to the hospital today, saw the guest and sat down to entertain Daniel.

When Shen Qinglan came downstairs, Fu Jingtong and Daniel were chatting pleasantly. Seeing Daniel, Shen Qinglan was a bit surprised, "Daniel, what brings you here?"

Daniel responded speechlessly, "You called me over yourself last night. Have you forgotten?"

Now that he mentioned it, Shen Qinglan did remember. Indeed, she had called Daniel, "Sorry, my memory has been poor lately." Her pregnancy had made her very forgetful, often causing her to forget things.

Seeing that Shen Qinglan had come down, Fu Jingtong left as she needed to go to the hospital to take care of Gu Bowen.

"I’ve already finished the painting; take it with you."

Upon hearing this, Daniel immediately brightened, following Shen Qinglan into the studio, "Excellent, this painting has exactly the feel I wanted. Shen Qinglan, our cooperation is becoming more and more seamless. I believe this art exhibition will attract quite a few people."

"You handle those matters, but I won’t be attending the opening of the exhibition."

"Alright, you take good care of yourself at home," Daniel agreed. He was admiring Shen Qinglan’s paintings, when suddenly he noticed her gaze. Meeting her eyes, Daniel looked at her curiously, "Shen Qinglan, why are you looking at me like that?"

"How are things going with you and Enxi?"

Daniel looked a bit uncomfortable, "What do you mean ’how are things going’? We are doing well."

We? Shen Qinglan understood.

After Daniel left, Shen Qinglan called Jin Enxi, "Enxi, how are you coming along with that plan I mentioned?"
