Chapter 281: 281. Stay, don’t go (3 updates)
Upon hearing this, she knew Daniel must have been played by Shen Qinglan, she didn’t explain, instead, she nodded cooperatively,
"Mm, I’ll be leaving in a few days."
"Will you come back?" Daniel asked, his eyes filled with a touch of anticipation.
Jin Enxi’s eyes flickered lightly, as if she understood something, and she decided to tease him, "Do you want me to come back?"
Daniel, always eloquent, was rendered speechless by Jin Enxi’s question; he paused, then looked down to avoid her direct gaze, "We’re friends, of course I hope you can come back to visit when you have the time."
Jin Enxi made a sound of acknowledgment, drawing out the last syllable, "Oh, just friends huh, then it’s hard to say, I’m naturally untethered, I love freedom, maybe I’ll come back, or maybe I’ll settle down somewhere I like during my journey around the world."
Daniel’s eyes dimmed at once, "You’re going to travel around the world?"
"Yeah, the initial reason I came here was because Qinglan was here, and I had never been to Z country. Now that I’ve seen Qinglan happy, I can rest assured and naturally want to continue traveling." Jin Enxi’s words were half-truth, half-false, but this made Daniel believe them all the more.
His face held a forced smile, betraying a hint of disappointment, "Then let me treat you to a meal today, as a farewell."
"Sure," Jin Enxi agreed readily, amused at how gullible he was, but she didn’t tell him that she had just been joking.
After the meal, Daniel didn’t escort Jin Enxi home but suggested they go to a bar instead.
Jin Enxi had no objections, and they headed straight to Charming Color.
Jin Enxi, looking in an unashamed direction, pulled Daniel into the dance floor.
"I can’t dance," Daniel shouted, but the music was loud and Jin Enxi didn’t hear clearly, "What did you say?"
Daniel repeated himself, and Jin Enxi tiptoed to whisper in his ear, "It’s okay, I’ll teach you."
She took Daniel’s hand and led him to dance.
Daniel knew ballroom dancing, but it was his first time trying energetic dancing. Looking at the radiant smile on Jin Enxi’s face, he suddenly wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned down to whisper in her ear, "Can you not leave, stay here."
Jin Enxi momentarily froze, looking at him. Daniel was looking at her earnestly with explosive music in the background and young men and women wildly dancing around them, but all of that seemed to disappear from his view, his eyes only had room for Jin Enxi.
"Jin Enxi, when I say I like you, can you not leave, stay and be my girlfriend?"
The world seemed to stand still for a moment as Jin Enxi stared blankly at Daniel’s lips moving.
After Daniel spoke, he watched Jin Enxi anxiously, and seeing no reaction, his heart chilled, and the light faded from his eyes.
Jin Enxi grabbed Daniel’s hand and pulled him away from the dance floor, then walked straight out of the bar into the corridor. She pinned Daniel against the wall, although she was shorter than Daniel and had a young girl’s face, it looked as if Daniel was the White Tyrant being roughly pursued.
"Daniel, what did you just say?"
Daniel found the courage to confess but now found it hard to repeat, Jin Enxi looked at him intently, "Did you just say you like me, is that true?"
She propped her hands on either side of Daniel, trapping him between herself and the wall.
Daniel’s gaze flickered, not daring to meet Jin Enxi’s.
Jin Enxi waited a while, and seeing he wasn’t speaking, she shrugged, "Alright, then it seems I misunderstood, my apologies."
As she turned to leave, Daniel grabbed her hand, "Jin Enxi, I like you, I mean it."
Jin Enxi turned around and paused, looking at him seriously, "You should know, I’m not a normal person."
Daniel nodded; from the night he met Jin Enxi covered in blood, he knew her identity was anything but ordinary.
"Do you want to be with me?" Jin Enxi asked.
Daniel nodded again.
"Aren’t you afraid that being with me will bring you trouble?"
Daniel chuckled lightly, "If I were scared, I wouldn’t have told you. Jin Enxi, will you be with me?"
Jin Enxi was about to speak when she caught a glimpse of a figure from the corner of her eye, her gaze faltered, and she suddenly pushed Daniel’s hand away, "Let’s talk about this another day, I have something to do today, you should go back first."
With that, Jin Enxi ran off. Daniel gave chase but lost sight of her after only a few steps.
The person Jin Enxi had seen was Xu Nuo, but when she chased after him, she found that he had disappeared. Frustrated, she stamped her foot and circled nearby a few times, to no avail, and had to head back to the bar to find Daniel.
Daniel was in a daze when he saw Jin Enxi return. His eyes sparkled at the sight of her and he approached, "What happened just now?"
Jin Enxi shook her head, "It’s alright, I thought I saw a friend just now, but I realized I was mistaken."
Daniel didn’t mind and just stared at her intently, "You still haven’t answered my question yet."
Jin Enxi looked at him puzzled, then finally remembered the question she had forgotten and looked at Daniel with a beaming smile, "Do you really want to be with me? Even if it means facing danger or possibly losing your life later on?"
Daniel’s expression was serious, and he said earnestly, "Yes."
"Alright then, you can be my boyfriend," Jin Enxi declared with a grand gesture and then gently kissed Daniel on the lips, "There, it’s sealed. From now on, you’re mine. If you dare to treat me badly..." She raised her little fist and waved it in front of Daniel, "Hmm."
Daniel was still lost in that kiss and was a bit slow to respond. Jin Enxi waved her hand, "Hey, are you listening to me?"
"Yes, yes, yes, I promise to treat you well from now on. If I don’t, you can hit me hard, because I can’t beat you anyway."
At these words, Jin Enxi burst into laughter. She stretched out her hand, trying to drape it over Daniel’s shoulder, but realizing she couldn’t reach, she settled for holding his hand instead, "Then let’s go home, boyfriend."
Daniel looked at their interlocked fingers, his eyes narrowing into slits as he smiled.
Jin Enxi glanced at him and said disdainfully, "Stop smiling, you look so silly," yet her eyes were full of smiles.
**
In a Beijing apartment, Xu Nuo had just ditched Jin Enxi and had arrived here. The woman was already waiting for her in the room. Seeing the woman, Xu Nuo called out, "Mom."
The woman hummed indifferently, "Why are you back so late?"
"I was spotted by Jin Enxi on the way back, it took me a while to shake her off," Xu Nuo honestly explained.
Xu Nuo had only returned to Beijing with Allen the day before, and that day the woman had called her back, saying she needed her help. Xu Nuo had found it quite difficult to find an opportunity to leave, and she didn’t expect to run into Jin Enxi.
The woman held a cigarette in her hand, her gaze falling on Xu Nuo with a chill, "Even such a trivial matter took so much time, what else can I expect from you?"
Xu Nuo looked down and remained silent; she had long grown accustomed to the woman’s attitude.
"Having been by Allen’s side for so long, do you know about a jade pendant he carries?"
"I know." Allen always carried that jade pendant with him, and Xu Nuo often saw him fondling it in his hands; it seemed to be his treasured possession.
The woman exhaled a ring of smoke nonchalantly, "Find a way to get that jade pendant for me."
"I can’t do that." That was a personal item of Allen’s; how could she possibly get it?
The woman gave her a fleeting glance, "Is there anything you can do?"
Xu Nuo made no response, and the woman laughed sarcastically, "Xu Nuo, do you know who that jade pendant belongs to?"
Xu Nuo looked up at her. Yes, the woman spit out a name, and Xu Nuo’s expression altered slightly.
The woman continued, "Do you know the biggest difference between you and her? It’s that she would never say ’I can’t’ in front of Allen."
Xu Nuo’s face was frosty; she had not clearly heard the woman’s latter words; she only heard the woman say the jade pendant belonged to Shen Qinglan, "I understand, I’ll find a way to get that jade, but it’s just a piece of jade after all. What use is it for you to have it?"
The woman looked at her coldly, "That’s not for you to worry about. Just do what I’ve asked you to do. Also, what did Allen come to Beijing for?"
Xu Nuo kept a cold face and didn’t speak; even though she was back by Allen’s side, he didn’t trust her, so he didn’t tell her a lot.
The woman seemed to have thought of this too and waved her hand, "Forget it, it’s pointless to ask you; you can’t even handle a man in such a long time, useless. Go on, hurry back before Allen gets suspicious."
Without any hesitation, Xu Nuo turned and left the apartment.
After Xu Nuo left, the woman exhaled a few more smoke rings and seemed to be thinking of something, her eyes filled with coldness. She took out her mobile phone and made a call to King.
"How dare you still call me." King was obviously infuriated upon hearing the woman’s voice.
King too had learned that someone had put a high price on his life in the underworld, and had been investigating who was behind it, but the investigation led right back to Mrs. Jin.
The woman was taken aback, seemingly puzzled by King’s anger, "King, I know you’ve encountered some troubles recently, but I certainly haven’t offended you, have I?"
King scoffed coldly, "Mrs. Jin, I’d really like to know, we are supposed to be partners, so what’s this about you stabbing me in the back?"
The more Mrs. Jin spoke, the more confused she became, "King, what happened? Is there some misunderstanding about me?"
"I hope it’s a misunderstanding," King said through gritted teeth, clearly enraged.
