Chapter 229: 229. Sea of Flowers (Second Update)
Hai City Wen Family.
Wen Sihan had just returned to his office when he saw the man waiting inside. His eyes flickered with a glimpse of amusement as he spoke with a smile, "Du Nan, what brings you here?"
When Du Nan saw Wen Sihan, he stood up, "Big brother, I came to see you."
Wen Sihan raised an eyebrow, to see him? He instantly knew it was probably about Xi Yao.
"Shall we go out for a drink?"
Du Nan nodded, "Sure."
The two didn’t go for a drink, however, but to a nearby café instead. Wen Sihan had an important meeting in the afternoon and needed to stay absolutely clear-headed.
Du Nan stared at the coffee in front of him and remained silent, as did Wen Sihan.
Finally, Du Nan couldn’t hold back any longer and was the first to speak, "Big brother, yesterday Auntie told my mom that Xi Yao already has a boyfriend. Is it true?"
Wen Sihan knew it was about this. Yesterday, Mrs. Du visited the Wen family and, once again, brought up to his mother the arranged marriage between Xi Yao and Du Nan, implying a desire to engage them as soon as possible. Mrs. Wen took this opportunity to reveal that Xi Yao had a boyfriend.
The conversation was probably unpleasant, as Mrs. Du left with a dark expression on her face.
"Yes."
Du Nan’s gaze dimmed in an instant, "Is it Shen Junyu?"
Wen Sihan wasn’t surprised that Du Nan knew Shen Junyu’s name. He nodded, "It is him. I didn’t expect Xi Yao to fall for Shen Junyu. Du Nan, I know how you feel about Xi Yao, and we’ve seen all that you’ve done for her over the years, but you must understand that after all this time, Xi Yao hasn’t fallen for you. It’s impossible between you two."
Du Nan suddenly looked up at Wen Sihan, "Big brother, what do you mean ’impossible’? All these years, Xi Yao hasn’t liked me, true, but she hasn’t liked anyone else, right? Now this Shen Junyu, who knows if it’s an act or for real? I don’t believe that Xi Yao could like someone else in such a short time. Does she even know this man?"
After returning from Beijing, Du Nan had made a point of investigating Shen Junyu, a man who, in only four or five years and without relying on family connections, had significantly expanded his company—his methods evidently needed no explanation.
But such a man must also be ruthless. If Xi Yao married a man like that, would he sincerely care for her?
"Du Nan, liking someone doesn’t correlate with how long you’ve known them. I believe you truly admire Xi Yao and want her to be happy. Now that the person who can make her happy has appeared, I hope that even if you can’t bring yourself to offer your blessings, you won’t try to ruin it."
Wen Sihan spoke gravely, understanding Du Nan’s temperament. In other matters, the man was a gentle gentleman, but when it came to Xi Yao, he became unreasonably obsessive.
Such a temperament could be a blessing and a curse for Xi Yao. If she ended up with Du Nan, she would surely be pampered by him for life. But if Xi Yao fell for someone else, Du Nan’s presence would become a ticking time bomb.
Thinking this, Wen Sihan felt a headache coming on. He shouldn’t have let Du Nan stay so close to Xi Yao.
"But the person who can make her happy isn’t me," Du Nan said, his tone filled with bitter resentment. "Big brother, I’ve waited for Xi Yao for so many years, willingly by her side wherever she went, and now Shen Junyu, without doing anything, has taken her away. How can I accept this? Would you let go if you were me?"
Of course he wouldn’t. That’s what Wen Sihan thought, but he couldn’t say that, "Du Nan, Shen Junyu is the man Xi Yao loves now. If you hurt him, you’ll hurt Xi Yao, and Xi Yao will be sad. Can you bear to see her hurt?"
Du Nan’s expression became stiff; he truly couldn’t bear to see Xi Yao upset, but he couldn’t bring himself to give her up either.
"Big brother, is there really no chance for me and Xi Yao?"
Wen Sihan nodded firmly, "There isn’t." The Shen Family had already communicated with them. If not for the recent surge in their affairs, the two families might have already started discussing the engagement.
"Okay. I understand." Du Nan got up, ready to leave.
"Du Nan," Wen Sihan called out to him, "if you dare hurt Xi Yao, the Du Family and Wen Family will have no further ties to speak of."
Du Nan’s eyes darkened, his hands clenched into fists, "I will never hurt Xi Yao."
Watching Du Nan’s retreating figure, Wen Sihan furrowed his brows, thought for a moment, and then dialed Xi Yao’s number. After hearing Wen Sihan’s words, Xi Yao only responded with a "Got it" before hanging up.
"What’s wrong?" Shen Junyu, noticing her furrowed brows, inquired.
Xi Yao shook her head, "It’s nothing, just work stuff. Do you have to go to the hospital this afternoon?"
"Yes, my grandfather has a check-up."
"I’ll go with you."
"Isn’t there still stuff you need to attend to at your company?"
Xi Yao gave a slight smile, "It’s nothing major. If they can’t handle such a small matter, I might have to consider replacing them."
Shen Junyu simply smiled and said nothing. Although they were boyfriend and girlfriend, they were also business partners—aside from their shared projects, they didn’t interfere in each other’s work.
After dining, Shen Junyu and Wen Xiyao went to the hospital together.
F Country.
Yu Xiaoxuan’s encounter with Han Yi here was unexpected.
"Why are you here?" Yu Xiaoxuan asked curiously.
Han Yi’s peach-blossom eyes lifted slightly, an alluring arc forming, "On a business trip. The little sister-in-law told me you were here, so I came to check on you." He made up an excuse on the spot, though the business trip was a lie; he had flown here specifically to see Yu Xiaoxuan. She had been filming in F country for over half a month, occasionally posting photos of her travels on her Moments. Each time Han Yi saw her carefree photos, he couldn’t help getting annoyed. Last night, seeing her picture dining with Andre, he couldn’t resist flying over.
"Oh." Yu Xiaoxuan responded, unsure of what to say.
Han Yi bit his teeth in secret annoyance. This infuriating girl always had endless things to say to others, but in front of him, she would suddenly fall silent.
"It’s almost noon. Would you mind having lunch together?" Han Yi glanced at his wristwatch and said, "I know a French restaurant nearby with excellent food. It usually requires a reservation two to three days in advance, but I’ve already reserved a spot. If you don’t go, who knows when you’ll get another chance to eat there."
Upon hearing this, Yu Xiaoxuan, who had been hesitant, instantly decided, "Sure, I’ve already finished my scenes for the day." When it came to gourmet food, she never learned how to say no.
Han Yi went to greet Linda. Glancing at Yu Xiaoxuan’s eager face, Linda nodded, "You must come back by five o’clock this afternoon; we can’t delay tonight’s filming."
"Thank you, Sister Linda, I promise I won’t be late." Yu Xiaoxuan beamed with joy and happily followed behind Han Yi as they left the set.
"How is it? Delicious, right?" Han Yi watched Yu Xiaoxuan, who was squinting with delight as she ate.
Chewing the food in her mouth, Yu Xiaoxuan nodded vigorously. Han Yi hadn’t deceived her—the food here was indeed delicious.
"Eat slowly, no one is fighting you for it," said Han Yi, looking at the satisfied Yu Xiaoxuan with a warm, indulgent smile. Unfortunately, her attention was wholly focused on the food and she completely missed the affection in Han Yi’s eyes.
"Why do you eat like a child?" Han Yi stretched out his hand and wiped away some soup that had stained the corner of her mouth, his tone resigned.
Yu Xiaoxuan stiffened slightly, picked up a napkin, and wiped herself, feeling slightly uncomfortable with Han Yi’s sudden closeness, "I can do it myself."
Han Yi withdrew his hand naturally, without a hint of awkwardness. Coming out of the restaurant, he checked the time and inquired, "Want to see a sea of flowers?"
"What?" Yu Xiaoxuan was startled.
"I’ll take you to see the sea of flowers. Do you want to go?"
Yu Xiaoxuan’s eyes lit up, "Can I?"
"Of course, we still have four and a half hours until five o’clock."
There was nothing more to say, "Let’s go."
The estate Han Yi took Yu Xiaoxuan to was a private one. As soon as the car entered the estate, the scent of flowers filled the air. Inside was a vast sea of blossoms stretching as far as the eye could see. Gazing at the colorful flowers in full bloom, Yu Xiaoxuan couldn’t help but squeal with joy.
"Ah, it’s so beautiful, Han Yi, this place is really beautiful. It’s the first time I’ve seen such a beautiful sea of flowers."
"Do you like it here?" Han Yi asked with a smile.
"Yeah, I love it! It would be great to see this often," said Yu Xiaoxuan, her face full of longing.
"If you like it, you could come here often in the future," Han Yi remarked.
"But this seems to be a private estate. Is it okay to just let me in?" Yu Xiaoxuan inquired.
Han Yi smiled slightly, saying nonchalantly, "I know the owner. You can come over anytime you want."
Han Yi led Yu Xiaoxuan on a stroll through the flower sea. She would occasionally bow her head to sniff the nearby flowers and take out her phone to take selfies with them.
"Han Yi, do you know how big this sea of flowers is?" Yu Xiaoxuan plucked a rose and played with it in her hand.
"About one hundred acres," Han Yi replied with a figure. In fact, this was a private estate he had purchased. Initially, a perfume factory had gone out of business and was selling the estate. He happened to be very interested in perfumes, so he bought it. However, because he had to return to China to take over the Han Group, he never got his perfume business off the ground and the estate ended up becoming his vacation spot each year.
The garden was abundant with a variety of flowers. To not waste resources, Han Yi sold them to local perfume manufacturers, and there were still many women picking flowers in the fields.
Along the way, several people greeted Han Yi, and even Yu Xiaoxuan, who was usually slow to catch on, now sensed something amiss. She looked at him suspiciously, "Han Yi, this estate isn’t yours, is it?"
"It is mine," Han Yi confirmed, which earned him an eye roll from Yu Xiaoxuan.
"Damn capitalist," Yu Xiaoxuan muttered under her breath.
