Chapter 517: Chapter 518: Soul of Funerals in the Quiet Night, Part Two
As soon as Chu You was admitted to the hospital, he was taken to the examination room. Bao’er, backpack in tow, stood alone in the corridor, seeming so lonely in the cool of the harshly lit hallway. She took a seat on a nearby chair, waiting for the results, occasionally looking around with curiosity.
Almost half an hour later, Chu You was wheeled out. Bao’er immediately stood up, as a doctor walked over to her and gently said, "Young girl, your brother doesn’t have any real issues. He just needs some rest. I’ve arranged for him to be admitted, and when he wakes up, tell him to come and see me. If there are no issues, he can be discharged soon enough."
"Thank you, doctor."
"You’re welcome, now follow the trolley. Someone will help you take him to his bed. Go ahead."
"Okay, goodbye doctor."
"Goodbye."
The heavy burden in Bao’er’s heart finally lifted, and her face regained its relaxed expression.
Diligently trailing the trolley, atop which Chu You lay with his eyes closed, Bao’er watched her brother with a radiant glow on her face, feeling immensely relieved. What a joy to know that her brother was going to be okay!
Before long, they arrived at the inpatient department, which was bustling with activity, a stark contrast from the deserted hallways earlier.
A nurse then opened the door of a room, and the porter wheeled Chu You in, where together with the nurse, they positioned Chu You on a bed.
"Thank you, brother and sister."
"No need to thank us, little girl," the porter left, and the nurse began charting details, then turned to Bao’er and said, "Have you eaten yet? There’s a nutritional menu here, order whatever you need. The meal costs are included in the hospital fees, which can be settled after discharge."
"Okay, I understand. Thanks, sister."
"You’re welcome." After that, the nurse too left the room.
Only then did Bao’er get a chance to take in the details of the room. There were three beds in the room, one of them housing Chu You and another a young girl. Unlike other rooms, this one seemed to be quieter and less chaotic.
Bao’er turned her attention to the girl on the bed, her eyes reflecting her curiosity. The girl appeared young, overly pretty, but her aura was icy cold, almost unapproachable, mirroring her morbidly pale skin.
Nestled by the girl’s bed were two items: a wheelchair and a game helmet.
Jing Ning was looking at Bao’er too, her eyes filled with surprise. She had recognized Chu You when he was wheeled in, and was astonished because she remembered him being rich, not just rich but extraordinarily wealthy. Soul of Funerals in the Quiet Night once confidentially told her that this senior managed a super-large corporation, without hiding the admiration and love she held for him.
But here was this extraordinary individual lying in the same ward as her, in this hospital.
If she told Soul of Funerals in the Quiet Night about this, would she come flying over? Jing Ning thought of this and quietly chuckled, it lightening her morose thoughts considerably.
This little girl is so pretty! She looks nothing like Brother You though. What’s their relationship? What about that woman named Lin Luor? And Brother You’s family? These questions swirled in her head.
Bao’er glanced at Chu You, then took out her homework, placing it on Chu You’s bed. Settling herself on a low stool, she leaned over to start her work.
Jing Ning was initially planning to log in to Celestial World but seeing the situation, she decided otherwise, her curiosity exceeding her initial plan. She oscillated her gaze between Bao’er and Chu You, finding the dynamic between the two of them rather intriguing.
Chu You’s phone rang again, causing Bao’er to pick it up. Noticing the call was from an unsaved number, she mindful stuck the phone into the blanket to muffle the sound.
Seeing this, Jing Ning’s curiosity spiked. This was genuinely peculiar to observe!
"Little girl!" Jing Ning called out.
Bao’er, who was facing Jing Ning’s back, turned around on hearing her and asked, "Sister, is there something you need?"
"Hmm, why didn’t you answer the phone?"
"I don’t know them!"
"So how should they address you?" Looking at the look in Bao’er’s eyes, Dantai Jingning goes on, "I’ve actually met him once, his name is Chu You, right?"
"You know my brother?" Bao’er’s eyes light up.
Dantai Jingning nodded gently, her face still held a faint smile, but it seemed somewhat harrowingly lonely. This feeling made Bao’er feel close to her.
"Like I said, we’ve met once. He gave us a ride home."
"Ah, I see." So Bao’er and Dantai Jingning told each other their names, and they officially got to know each other.
"Does Sister Jing Ning play ’Celestial World’ too?"
"Yes, I’ve made it my profession." She looks down at the game helmet, gently touches it with her hand, and whispers as if muttering to herself, "To support myself without relying on anyone." She left one thing unsaid, that is: I must survive!
There were countless times when I wanted to commit suicide; countless times I wasted my life waiting for death! As time flies, I have wandered alone in the world, like a flat boat stranded in the sand sea, it’s time for some change, those who wish me dead, you wish!
"What’re you talking about? My brother is the same as you, he spends every day in ’Celestial World’."
A tinge of surprise flashed across Dantai Jingning’s eyes. She remembered Brother You once saying that he hardly played ’Celestial World’, hardly ever touched this game.
And this little girl in front of her seemed to know Chu You very well, so who can be trusted between the two? The answer is self-evident.
"’Celestial World’ is a very popular game, many people are obsessed with it and have made it their career. Do you know what your brother is called in ’Celestial World’?"
Bao’er shook her head, "I don’t know, my brother won’t let me touch these things."
"By the way, Sister Jing Ning, what disease do you have?"
"Me..." her eyes were drawn to the legs hidden under the blanket, "See the wheelchair? I can’t walk, not only that, it often gives me a hard time. Whenever it does, I have to stay in the hospital for IV therapy."
"How long have you had this condition, Sister Jing Ning? It’s been so long and it hasn’t been cured?"
"It can’t be cured, it’s a congenital disability!" Having said that, there was a calm look in Dantai Jingning’s eyes. She had come to terms with it, with this illness that had tortured her for all 19 years of her life.
"Ah? This..." Bao’er found it hard to believe. This beautiful older sister was actually a disabled person.
"It’s okay, I’ve been like this for so long, I’m used to it. You get on with your homework, Bao’er, I’m going to go on ’Celestial World’."
"Don’t you need to have an IV drip anymore, Sister Jing Ning?"
"I’ve had it. My leg doesn’t hurt anymore."
"Hmm, okay then, have fun, Sister Jing Ning."
The room once again fell silent, with Bao’er again focused on her homework. At this moment, Chu You’s phone rang once more. After picking it up and checking the screen, Bao’er stuffed it back into the blanket. The reason Bao’er did this was to see if there were any calls from Sister Zhijun. If it was her, Bao’er would answer. If not, she ignored them!
After finishing her homework, looking at the characters on the assignment book, for the first time, her work was somewhat sloppy and careless.
Chu You didn’t know that Bao’er had already become the class’s study committee member, even the deputy class leader!
