Chapter 250: Chapter 250: For the Shaw Family of Imperial City, the Squire Siblings Are a Disaster
The car drove unobstructed all the way into the Leclair Mansion.
Maximilian waited in the side hall with a stack of thick files, quickly stepping forward as they arrived.
Ignatius Leclair entered the side hall, touched Delphine’s forehead, and said in his deep voice, "The mountain air is chilly; go take a hot bath so you don’t catch a cold."
After speaking, the man instructed the butler to brew ginger tea before taking Maximilian to the study.
Delphine also felt the chill seep into her bones; her health had worsened over the years from strain. She went upstairs to the top floor, prepared a hot bath, and called Leah.
The wireless communications at Squire Manor had been restored, and Leah had just brought people out of the Subterranean Palace a short while ago, complaining petulantly about her two missing Ragdoll cats.
Seeing Leah like this, Delphine felt her previously tense emotions dissipate entirely and smiled with a sense of relief, "Leah, you’re just wonderful like this."
Leah chuckled lazily at these words, replying, "Life and death are destined, riches and honor are determined by fate. I’ve already come to terms with this over the years. By the way, do you know who came to our house today? I’m sure it’s them who took away our cats, Huanhuan and Yeaye. It’s infuriating—they could’ve taken anything, but why our cats?"
Delphine’s heart sank, suspecting that Richard Shaw might have taken the two cats. Knowing Leah’s personality, if she found out, she would definitely go to confront the Shaw Family in the Imperial City for them.
"Maybe they got startled and wandered off," she suggested.
"My brother said the same," Leah replied, gritting her teeth, before calling for the servants to search everywhere for the cats.
The two chatted for a bit longer before hanging up, and after finishing her bath, Delphine headed downstairs.
Ms. Gu was downstairs listening to Kunqu opera, softly singing along in a gentle Wu dialect accent.
These days, with Bessie Leclair absent and Stone Leclair not staying there, Ms. Gu was overjoyed. On the weekends, she had even brought Isaac Leclair back to visit. Seeing Delphine come down at that moment, she quickly pulled her aside and whispered, "Has something major happened recently? Everyone’s saying that the Wade Family incident is somehow connected to us."
Everything that happened at the Leclair Mansion was significant enough to affect the South Seas.
Delphine shook her head lightly, indicating she didn’t know.
Ms. Gu’s curiosity was dampened, but she tugged at Delphine’s arm and hesitantly asked, "Have you been feeling unwell lately? If anything happens, please don’t hide it from me."
Delphine narrowed her eyes slightly, noticing the flicker of avoidance in Ms. Gu’s gaze and realizing what was on her mind.
She had been with Ignatius Leclair for quite some time now, and Ms. Gu had always been worried that she might be pregnant. If news of that spread, it would be terribly disgraceful. However, her health had deteriorated so much in earlier years that even if she wanted to conceive, it likely wasn’t possible.
Failing to get any answers from her, Ms. Gu stomped her foot in frustration and helplessly joined her Mahjong partners to play Mahjong.
In the study, Ignatius Leclair’s features, sharp as though carved with a blade, revealed a cold intensity as he silently reviewed an old archive. The more he read, the more alarmed he became.
After a long time, the man handed the file to Maximilian and said gravely, "Return this archive, and make sure no one discovers it."
Maximilian, aware of the grave implications, nodded and asked, "Should I continue investigating Griffith Squire’s background?"
"No. Not only should we stop investigating, but we also need to prevent him and his sister from appearing in front of Richard Shaw." His voice was chillingly low, and within his phoenix-like eyes stirred an unfathomable darkness.
Fortunately, Griffith Squire had been mindful and had never brought Leah Squire near the Imperial City all these years.
If his suspicions were correct and the truth aligned with the archive’s records, then the appearance of the Squire siblings could bring about an outright disaster for the Shaw Family in the Imperial City.
