Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Such a risk of nine deaths to survive the past, is not worth remembering at all
At the Squire Manor, Richard Shaw lowered his gaze to the two tiny Ragdoll kittens lounging lazily on his lap, acting coquettish and playful.
They say owners resemble their pets.
These two cats were just too sociable.
"Commander, are you really not going to force your way in? The longer we drag this out, the more likely the outside world will catch wind of it." One of Richard Shaw’s subordinates was uneasy. They were already short-staffed on this trip to the South Seas, and with the commander’s mobility impaired, if they got tangled up in the South Seas’ disputes and something went awry, there would be no way to account for it to their brothers back at the military.
Richard Shaw glanced at the time and replied flatly, "Give Ignatius Leclair a call."
As he spoke, the other side from the Autumn Mountains had already made contact first.
Ignatius Leclair’s deep and icy voice came through, "The situation’s been resolved."
"Mm." Richard Shaw allowed a slight smile.
"What about the Squire Family’s casualties?"
"No losses. They’ve all hidden in the Subterranean Palace." Richard Shaw responded blandly.
Upon hearing this, Ignatius Leclair narrowed his eyes and glanced over at Griffith Squire. Indeed, the man lived up to his reputation as a figure feared throughout the Golden Triangle—he even had this card to play. If Richard Shaw hadn’t been sent over today, Griffith Squire probably wouldn’t have surrendered so quickly.
Fortunately, he had already uncovered the greatest weakness of the Squire siblings.
"Get back as soon as you can; otherwise, if the old lady finds out I’ve been ordering you around, she’ll beat me senseless," Ignatius Leclair remarked before hanging up.
Richard Shaw seemed lost in thought. That bastard had been behaving oddly today; he was usually brazen about giving orders. Almost on a whim, Richard glanced in the direction of the Squire Family’s Subterranean Palace, then at the two tiny kittens on his lap, before issuing a retreat order.
As they retreated, an inexplicable pang of sorrow swept through Richard Shaw’s heart. He lowered his gaze to the two soft and adorable cats, ultimately deciding not to return them to their owner.
Crystal Landon had loved keeping Ragdoll cats as well.
Soon after, the group disappeared from the Squire Manor, taking the two Ragdoll kittens with them.
Ignatius Leclair hung up the phone, his face stern and silent. Over the years, Richard Shaw had stayed away from worldly matters. Judging from the phone call, the two likely hadn’t met in person yet; otherwise, chaos would have already erupted in the South Seas.
Ignatius Leclair was in an exceedingly foul mood as he turned to Griffith Squire and said, "You may proceed to pay your respects to the Four Directions and draft the covenant."
With that, Ignatius Leclair spoke, and only then did Jing Liu order the ancestral shrine to be opened, notifying the highly esteemed elders inside who were presiding over this event.
Griffith Squire didn’t waste words and went straight in.
Delphine was about to follow but was stopped by Ignatius Leclair’s hand. The man’s expression was somewhat grim, his voice low and subdued as he said, "Since I’ve allowed him entry, no one will trouble him anymore. Delphine, come back with me."
Ignatius Leclair, despite his ruthless methods, was a man of his word. Delphine nodded and followed him down the mountain.
"The Squire Family is replacing the Wade Family to enter the South Seas’ circle of elites. For such a major event, why haven’t we seen any elders?" Delphine asked offhandedly, her thoughts preoccupied with Leah, a tangle of worry in her chest.
"Griffith Squire has been preparing for today for at least two years. His momentum is unstoppable. The other three families setting checkpoints and negotiating with the Squire Family is merely to extract some benefits. If elders got involved, it would be giving him too much face." Ignatius Leclair explained coolly.
Delphine nodded thoughtfully. Jocelyn Yeager hadn’t made any demands because of her. This time, the greatest beneficiary was undoubtedly Ignatius Leclair, who had essentially severed any future alliance between the Squire Family and Stone Leclair. As for Sylvester Cloud, the eldest son of the Cloud Family, he truly lived up to his reputation as a man of character—he had simply competed with firearms skills before granting passage.
The two descended the mountain and got into a car bound for the Leclair Estate.
Seeing his broodingly handsome face, Delphine wanted to ask about the Squire siblings’ background, but she hesitated. Deep down, she selfishly hoped that Leah would forget everything. A past filled with such life-and-death struggles wasn’t worth remembering at all.
