Three days later, Kyla Zamora called to say she had landed the lead female role in the period drama "A Pear Blossom Crushes the Crabapple." Once the crew decided on the remaining cast, she could join the production for filming.
Delphine nodded, thinking it was the perfect time to substitute Leah and make a trip to the Baigong Shrine.
When Delphine arrived at the foot of Mount Qiuming with Dongzi, Griffith Squire was already there. Since they were heading to a shrine, everyone was dressed in black trench coats.
The entirety of Mount Qiuming had been completely cordoned off, preventing any tourists from entering.
Griffith Squire leaned against the car door, his devilishly handsome face slightly downcast. Holding a cigarette between his fingers, he squinted as if indulging in carefree clouds of smoke. Upon seeing Delphine arrive, he smiled with his charming peach-blossom eyes, extinguished the cigarette, and sauntered over.
"Ah, little Delphine, I knew you couldn’t bear to let me march to my doom," Griffith teased seductively, curling his lips.
Delphine glanced behind him, noticing he had only brought two trusted subordinates. She frowned sharply and said, "If you knew this was a trap, why did you only bring two people?"
"Bringing you is enough," Griffith threw her a flirtatious look, his demeanor utterly cavalier, as though he paid no heed to the solemn Baigong Shrine affair.
Seeing his relaxed expression, Delphine thought about his obscure teenage years and how he had risen to power in the Golden Triangle through cunning and strategy. She spoke softly, "Let’s go. The sooner we return, the more reassured Leah will be."
Griffith nodded, his peach-blossom eyes narrowing slightly. He gazed at the hundreds of steps leading up the mountain and began walking forward.
The Baigong Shrine lay deep within Mount Qiuming. One had to climb hundreds of steps and then walk an additional kilometer to reach it. Vehicles were unable to make the journey, so it had to be done on foot.
The group of five began ascending the steps. Before they had reached the fiftieth step, they noticed a checkpoint had been set up at a resting platform ahead, blocking their path.
A man stood in front, gentle and refined like warm jade, exuding an elegant demeanor. He was none other than Reginald Yeager, the rising star of the Yeager Family.
"The Nanyang rules: to access the Baigong Shrine, one must first pass the tests set by the other three major families," Jocelyn Yeager stood facing the wind, speaking calmly and warmly. "Mr. Squire, please turn back. The Yeager Family does not welcome outsiders to Nanyang."
Griffith flashed a devil-may-care smirk, drawling lazily, "Reginald, the Leclair Family and Cloud Family have always shared good relations. Without fresh blood entering the fold, your Yeager Family will soon decline to a third-rate family."
"That is of no concern to me," Jocelyn replied indifferently, his gaze shifting to Delphine behind Griffith. Since the engagement banquet, it had been months since they last met.
He bypassed Griffith entirely, standing before Delphine. His gaze carried a subtle heaviness, a tender melancholy as he said gently, "Delphine, I want to speak with you privately."
Griffith frowned slightly. Reginald Yeager was actually a romantic, it seemed?
Not far from the resting platform was a dense and verdant forest. Delphine followed Jocelyn to a tree blooming with purple bauhinia flowers. It was the season of their blossoms, and as a gentle breeze swept in, countless purple petals scattered across the ground.
She raised her gaze to look at the man beneath the tree—the gentle, handsome childhood friend—and spoke with a touch of softness in her voice, "How are things in the Yeager Family?"
Jocelyn nodded, smiling faintly, "Neither good nor bad, but I can protect myself. I came here today only to tell you something: I’ve bought an unnamed island in South Asia, close to Australia. It’s not marked on any map, its climate is pleasant, and it is sparsely inhabited. The island is covered in sugarcane and durian trees. Wasn’t your dream as a young girl to live a life facing the ocean, chopping wood, and feeding horses?"
With tenderness, the man said, "When all is settled in Nanyang, I’ll be waiting for you on that island. If you don’t come, I won’t leave."
