Chapter 125: Ready
Chapter 125: Ready
The doctor’s words hung in the air like a heavy fog, casting a pall over the room as he delivered the devastating news. "I’m sorry," he began, his voice gentle but tinged with sorrow. "Abby is in a coma."
Remo’s heart sank at the doctor’s words, a cold knot of dread settling in the pit of his stomach. Coma. The word echoed in his mind like a death knell, filling him with a sense of profound despair.
The doctor continued, his voice steady as he explained the severity of Abby’s condition. He spoke of traumatic injuries, of damage to her brain and body that had left her unconscious and unresponsive. Each word felt like a dagger to Remo’s heart, a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the cruel twists of fate.
As the doctor detailed Abby’s prognosis, Remo felt as if he were living in a nightmare from which he could not wake. He struggled to comprehend the enormity of what had happened, the magnitude of their loss.
Beside him, Tony and the lawyer listened in stunned silence, their faces pale with shock and grief. The reality of Abby’s condition seemed to hang in the air like a heavy weight, crushing them beneath its unbearable burden.
As the doctor concluded his explanation, a heavy silence descended upon the room. Remo’s mind raced with a million thoughts and emotions, each one more agonizing than the last.
Abby was in a coma. Their beloved Abby, the light of Remo’s life, lay unconscious and helpless, her future hanging in the balance. And as Remo grappled with the enormity of their loss, he knew that their lives would never be the same again.
Remo’s voice trembled as he struggled to find the words, his heart heavy with fear and uncertainty. "Will she be okay?" he managed to choke out, his voice barely above a whisper. "How long will she be in a coma?"
The doctor’s expression softened with sympathy as he met Remo’s gaze. "We’re doing everything we can for Abby," he reassured him, his tone gentle but grave. "But I’m afraid it’s too soon to say. Comas are complex and unpredictable. We’ll need to monitor her closely and provide the best possible care."
Remo’s heart sank at the doctor’s words, a sense of helplessness washing over him like a tidal wave. He longed for some shred of hope, some assurance that Abby would wake up and be okay. But the uncertainty of her condition loomed over him like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over his hopes and dreams.
"How long?" Remo pressed, his voice strained with emotion. "How long will she be like this?"
The doctor sighed, his expression grave. "It’s difficult to say," he admitted. "Every case is different. We’ll need to wait and see how Abby’s body responds to treatment. It could be days, weeks, or even months."
Remo felt as if the ground had been ripped out from beneath him, his world reduced to a blur of fear and despair. The thought of Abby lying unconscious and helpless, her future hanging in the balance, filled him with a sense of overwhelming grief.
Remo’s voice quivered with emotion as he posed the question, his eyes pleading for some small measure of comfort in the face of overwhelming uncertainty. "When... when can I see her?" he asked, his voice barely audible above the hum of the hospital machinery.
The doctor’s gaze softened with sympathy as he regarded Remo, recognizing the depth of his anguish. "I understand how difficult this must be for you," he said gently, his tone filled with compassion.
"I’ll do my best to arrange for you to see Abby as soon as possible."
Remo nodded gratefully, a flicker of hope stirring within him at the prospect of being by Abby’s side, even in her unconscious state.
He longed to hold her hand, to whisper words of love and encouragement, to let her know that he was there for her, no matter what.
The doctor assured Remo that he would arrange for a visitation as soon as Abby’s condition allowed, but cautioned him to prepare for what he might see. "Abby may not look like herself right now," he explained gently. "But it’s important for her to know that you’re here, that you’re fighting for her."
Remo nodded, his heart heavy with the weight of his emotions. He knew that seeing Abby in her current state would be difficult, but he was willing to endure any hardship if it meant being by her side.
As he waited for the doctor to make the necessary arrangements, Remo found solace in the knowledge that he would soon be with Abby, offering her the love and support she so desperately needed.
And with that thought burning bright in his heart, he braced himself for the emotional journey that lay ahead, determined to stay strong for Abby, no matter what.
As Remo waited anxiously for the doctor to arrange the visitation, time seemed to crawl at a torturous pace. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, filled with aching anticipation and unbearable uncertainty.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the doctor returned with a nurse by his side. "Mr. Quinn, we’re ready to take you to see Abby now," he said gently, his voice a beacon of reassurance in the darkness of Remo’s despair.
Remo’s heart skipped a beat at the doctor’s words, a surge of emotion welling up inside him as he prepared to see Abby. With a nod of gratitude, he followed the nurse down the dimly lit corridors of the hospital, his footsteps echoing in the silence of the night.
As they approached Abby’s room, Remo’s heart pounded in his chest with a mixture of fear and longing. He braced himself for what he might see, steeling his resolve to stay strong for Abby, no matter what.
The nurse paused outside the door, her gaze filled with sympathy as she turned to face Remo. "Are you ready?" she asked softly, her voice a gentle reminder of the gravity of the moment.
Remo took a deep breath, his hands trembling with nervous anticipation. "Yes," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "I’m ready."
