Chapter 126: I need you
With a gentle nod, the nurse opened the door, revealing Abby lying motionless on the hospital bed. Remo’s heart constricted at the sight of her pale, still form, but he pushed aside his fear and stepped into the room.
As he approached Abby’s bedside, a flood of emotions washed over him: love, grief, hope, and despair all swirling together in a tumultuous whirlwind of feeling. He reached out, taking her cold, limp hand in his own
As Remo sat by Abby’s side, time seemed to blur into an endless cycle of whispered prayers and silent tears. He held onto her hand tightly, willing her to feel his presence, to sense his love surrounding her, even in her unconscious state.
In the stillness of the hospital room, Remo found solace in the rhythm of Abby’s steady breaths, a fragile lifeline tethering him to hope amidst the darkness of despair. He whispered words of encouragement, of longing, of desperate pleas for her to wake up and return to him.
But as the minutes passed and Abby remained unresponsive, Remo’s resolve began to waver. Doubt crept into his heart, whispering cruel lies of uncertainty and fear. What if Abby never woke up? What if he never got the chance to see her smile again, to hear her laughter, to hold her in his arms?
The weight of his emotions threatened to overwhelm him as he grappled with the enormity of their situation. He felt lost, adrift in a sea of uncertainty, his hopes and dreams slipping through his fingers like grains of sand.
But amidst the despair, a tiny spark of hope flickered in Remo’s heart, refusing to be extinguished. He clung to that flicker of light with all his might, vowing to never give up on Abby, to keep fighting for her until she opened her eyes and returned to him, where she belonged.
And as he sat by her bedside, holding onto that fragile thread of hope, Remo whispered the words he had spoken a thousand times before, willing them to reach Abby’s unconscious mind and awaken her from the depths of her coma. "I need you, Abby," he murmured softly, his voice filled with unwavering determination. "Please, come back to me. I need you."
As Remo’s words hung in the air, a heavy silence enveloped the hospital room, broken only by the soft hum of medical equipment and the gentle rise and fall of Abby’s chest. In the stillness of the moment, Remo felt as if time had come to a standstill, suspended in a fragile balance between hope and despair.
He watched Abby’s face intently, searching for any sign of response, any flicker of movement that might indicate she had heard his plea. But she remained as still as ever, her features serene yet inscrutable in the dim light of the room.
A sense of helplessness washed over Remo, threatening to engulf him in its suffocating embrace. He longed to reach out and shake Abby awake, to scream and shout and demand that she return to him. But he knew that such actions would be futile, that Abby’s fate lay beyond his control.
With a heavy heart, Remo leaned forward, pressing a tender kiss to Abby’s forehead. "I’ll be here, Abby," he whispered, his voice barely audible above the soft hum of the machines. "I’ll never leave your side. Just please, come back to me."
Remo’s heart sank as the nurse approached him, her expression sympathetic but firm. He understood the necessity of the rule, but the thought of leaving Abby’s side filled him with a sense of profound unease.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Quinn," the nurse said gently, her voice tinged with compassion. "But visiting hours in the ICU are limited. You’ll need to leave soon."
Remo nodded, his throat tight with emotion as he reluctantly rose from his seat beside Abby’s bed. He glanced back at her unconscious form, a pang of longing coursing through him at the thought of being separated from her.
"I’ll be back as soon as I can," he murmured softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "I promise."
The nurse offered him a sympathetic smile, her eyes filled with understanding. "I know it’s difficult," she said gently. "But Abby needs her rest. You can come back tomorrow."
With a heavy heart, Remo reluctantly turned away from Abby’s bedside, his footsteps echoing softly in the empty corridor as he made his way out of the ICU. As he walked, he couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness that settled over him, a hollow ache that seemed to echo the longing in his heart.
Remo’s weary eyes met the lawyer’s gaze, his heart heavy with the weight of his emotions. "She’s... she’s still in a coma," he replied softly, his voice tinged with sorrow. "But the doctors are doing everything they can for her."
The lawyer nodded gravely, his expression filled with concern. "And... and how are you holding up?" he asked gently, his voice laced with genuine empathy.
Remo forced a weak smile, though it did little to mask the turmoil raging within him. "I’m... I’m trying to stay strong," he admitted, his voice faltering slightly. "But it’s hard, you know? Seeing Abby like that... it breaks my heart."
Tony placed a comforting hand on Remo’s shoulder, his own expression filled with sympathy. "We’re all here for you, Remo," he said quietly. "Whatever you need, just let us know."
"I can’t stay here for long," the lawyer confessed, his voice tinged with urgency. "People are searching for me. I need to hide for a while to take care of things. I will contact you to know how Abby is doing. Please take care of her."
Remo’s brow furrowed with concern as he absorbed the lawyer’s words, a sense of apprehension settling over him. The gravity of the situation was clear, and he knew that the lawyer’s safety was paramount, especially with the looming threat.
"I understand," Remo replied solemnly, his voice tinged with worry. "But please, stay safe out there. And thank you... thank you for everything you’re doing for Abby."
The lawyer nodded, his expression resolute as he glanced towards the ICU where Abby lay unconscious. "I’ll do everything in my power to keep her safe," he promised, his voice filled with determination. "She means the world to me, Remo. I won’t let anything happen to her."
With a final nod of farewell, the lawyer turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Remo and Tony alone in the hospital corridor. Remo felt a swell of gratitude towards the lawyer, knowing that Abby was in capable hands, even in his absence.
