Chapter 123: Won’t leave
Remo’s heart raced as he heard Tony’s urgent voice on the other end of the line. Without a moment’s hesitation, he grabbed the keys from one of his men and bolted out of the hideout, the lawyer following closely behind.
Fumbling with the keys, Remo cursed under his breath as his hands shook with nervous energy. The urgency of the situation weighed heavily on him, making it difficult to concentrate. But before he could unlock the car, the lawyer placed a hand on his shoulder, halting him in his tracks.
"I don’t think you’re fit to drive," the lawyer said, his tone firm but sympathetic.
Remo didn’t argue. Instead, he handed the keys over to the lawyer, his mind racing with worry for Abby’s safety. Together, they practically threw themselves into the car, barely managing to shut the doors before the lawyer started the engine and peeled out of the driveway with a screech of tires.
As they sped through the streets, Remo’s fingers flew over his phone, dialing Tony’s number repeatedly. Each unanswered call only added to his growing sense of dread. With each passing moment, his anxiety mounted, a knot of worry tightening in his chest.
"Come on, Tony, pick up," Remo muttered under his breath, frustration evident in his voice. But with each attempt, there was no response.
With a frustrated curse, Remo slammed his fist against the dashboard, the sound echoing through the car. The lawyer glanced over at him, concern etched on his face.
"Can you explain to me what’s going on right now?" the lawyer asked, his voice steady despite the urgency of the situation.
Remo’s jaw clenched as he struggled to find the right words. "I don’t know what’s going on," he replied, his voice tinged with frustration. "But we’re going to find out."
As they raced through the city streets, Remo’s mind raced with a thousand fears. The possibility of Abby being in danger loomed large in his thoughts, driving him forward with a relentless determination to find her and bring her to safety, no matter the cost.
He didn’t even bother to think about how the lawyer knew the way out of the hideout to his house. It took them 12 minutes to reach his house. He ran inside calling out Tony. He sprinted to the bedroom with the lawyer close behind him, his heart pounding in his chest with each step.
As he burst into the room, a wave of shock and horror washed over him. The sight of the broken door and the pool of water mixed with blood on the floor sent a jolt of fear coursing through his veins. He froze in place, his mind struggling to process the scene before him.
Abby lay on the bed, her pale face drained of color, her wrists stained with crimson. Tony hovered over her, his hands frantically trying to stem the flow of blood, but it seemed like a futile effort against the gravity of the situation.
Remo stood there in a daze, his mind unable to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening. He wanted to move, to do something to help, but his body felt rooted to the spot, paralyzed by the sheer horror of the scene unfolding before him.
The lawyer rushed past him, his movements swift and purposeful as he sprang into action. Remo watched as they bound Abby’s wrists, his heart pounding in his chest with each passing moment.
Suddenly, a voice cut through the fog of his mind, sharp and urgent. Someone was shaking him, their words piercing through the haze of his thoughts.
"Remo, snap out of it! Abby’s life is on the line!"
The urgency in the voice snapped Remo back to reality, jolting him into action. With a surge of adrenaline, he pushed aside the paralysis that had gripped him, his instincts kicking into overdrive.
In an instant, he was by Abby’s side, his hands steady as he helped Tony carry her out of the room. The weight of her body in his arms spurred him forward, driving him to do whatever it took to save her life.
As they rushed Abby to the waiting car, Remo’s mind raced with a single thought: he hopes he doesn’t lose her.
Remo held Abby’s limp body in his arms in the back seat of the car, his heart heavy with fear and desperation. He pleaded with her, begging her not to leave him, promising to try to love her if only she would stay.
"I need you, Abby," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "Please, don’t give up on me. I’ll do whatever it takes, just don’t leave me. I’ll try... I’ll try to love you, I swear."
Tears streamed down Remo’s face unchecked as he pressed a kiss to Abby’s cold forehead, his heart breaking at the sight of her growing weaker in his arms. He was oblivious to the lawyer’s gaze, lost in his own grief and turmoil.
As they raced towards the hospital, Remo’s urgency grew with each passing moment. He shouted at Tony to drive faster, his desperation driving him to the brink of madness.
Finally, they arrived at the hospital, and Remo wasted no time in carrying Abby’s frail body into the emergency room. He watched helplessly as the medical staff rushed to her side, their frantic efforts a blur of motion and noise.
Remo hovered at Abby’s side, his heart pounding in his chest as he prayed for her survival. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see the lawyer, his expression unreadable.
Remo’s hands trembled as he watched the medical staff rush Abby into the emergency room. The sight of her pale, unconscious form disappearing behind those doors filled him with a sense of overwhelming dread.
"They have to take her to the emergency room," the nurse insisted, gently guiding Remo away from the entrance. "You have to let them do their job."
Remo wanted to argue, to demand answers, but the nurse’s words cut through his panic-stricken mind, and he stepped back, his chest heaving with each ragged breath.
"She—she will be okay, right?" Remo’s voice cracked with emotion as he spoke, his eyes wide with fear. "My wife will be fine. She won’t... she won’t leave me, right?"
Tony looked at him, his own heart heavy with worry. He wished he could offer Remo some reassurance, but even he wasn’t sure of Abby’s fate. All he could do was hope and pray for the best.
"I don’t know, Remo," Tony admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But we have to trust the doctors to do everything they can for her."
Remo nodded numbly, his mind a whirlwind of fear and uncertainty. The image of Abby lying unconscious in his hands flashed through his mind, sending a shiver down his spine. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing her, not now, not ever.
