Chapter 122: Break in

Remo’s gaze narrowed as he studied the young lawyer before him, his mind racing to piece together the puzzle of their unexpected encounter. There was a tension in the air, thick with unspoken questions and hidden motives.

"Why did you come to find me?" Remo pressed, his voice edged with suspicion. "And how did you know where to look?"

The lawyer met Remo’s gaze with an inscrutable expression, his eyes betraying a flicker of uncertainty before he composed himself once more.

"I have my ways," he replied evasively, his tone cryptic. "Let’s just say I’m well-connected."

Remo’s jaw tensed at the lawyer’s vague response, a sense of frustration bubbling beneath the surface. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down in the presence of this enigmatic stranger, especially when the stakes were so high.

"Cut the games," Remo retorted, his voice sharp with resolve. "I need answers, and I need them now. Why are you here, and what do you want from me?"

The lawyer’s facade wavered slightly, a fleeting glimpse of vulnerability crossing his features before he masked it once more with an air of confidence.

The lawyer’s lips curled into a sardonic smirk, his demeanor shifting as he regarded Remo with a mixture of amusement and defiance.

"Weren’t you looking for me?" he shot back, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Why are you asking me what I’m doing here?"

Remo’s frustration simmered beneath the surface as he struggled to maintain his composure in the face of the lawyer’s provocation. He knew there was more to this encounter than met the eye, and unraveling the truth would require patience and cunning.

"I have my reasons," Remo replied evenly, his voice steady despite the turmoil brewing within him. "But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re here now, and I want to know why."

The lawyer’s smirk widened, a glint of defiance flashing in his eyes. "Fair enough," he conceded, his tone shifting to one of guarded honesty.

"I promised Mr. Falcone I would take care of Abby when he was no more."

Remo’s heart skipped a beat at the lawyer’s revelations, each one more surprising than the last. The weight of Mr. Falcone’s expectations bore down on him, intertwining his fate with Abby’s in ways he hadn’t anticipated.

"You promised Mr. Falcone you would protect Abby?" Remo asked, his voice laced with disbelief. The notion of being entrusted with Abby’s safety was both unexpected and unsettling.

The lawyer nodded solemnly. "Yes, it was one of his final requests," he confirmed, his tone grave. "He trusted me to ensure that she would be taken care of, no matter what."

Remo’s mind raced as he processed the lawyer’s words, a sense of responsibility settling heavily on his shoulders. He had always been fiercely protective of Abby, but now that duty took on a new significance in light of Mr. Falcone’s wishes.

"And about the will?" Remo prompted, his voice tinged with apprehension. The thought of delving into Mr. Falcone’s affairs, particularly in the aftermath of his death, filled him with a sense of trepidation.

The lawyer nodded once more, his expression businesslike. "Yes, Mr. Falcone’s will needs to be read," he stated matter-of-factly. "There are matters that need to be addressed, and you play a crucial role in ensuring that his wishes are carried out."

Remo’s mind reeled at the implications of Mr. Falcone’s will, realizing that his involvement in Abby’s life and her father’s affairs ran deeper than he had ever imagined. The weight of responsibility bore down on him, anchoring him in a world fraught with danger and uncertainty.

"And the company?" Remo asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The thought of Abby inheriting her father’s empire was daunting, but he knew she was more than capable of rising to the challenge.

The lawyer nodded once more, his gaze unwavering. "Yes, Mr. Falcone believed that you were Abby’s best shot at taking over the company," he confirmed, his words carrying a note of conviction. "He saw potential in both of you, and he believed that together, you could build something extraordinary."

"Both of us?" Remo repeated, seeking clarification. "You mean, Mr. Falcone had been in contact with you?"

The lawyer nodded solemnly. "Yes, that’s correct," he confirmed, his tone grave. "He reached out to me a day before he passed away to discuss some final instructions."

Remo’s mind raced with a mixture of shock and confusion at the lawyer’s revelation. The notion that Mr. Falcone had been communicating with the lawyer just days before his death added another layer of complexity to an already intricate situation.

"You were in contact with Mr. Falcone before he died?" Remo clarified, his voice tinged with disbelief. The idea that Mr. Falcone had been orchestrating events behind the scenes, even in his final days, left Remo feeling unsettled.

The lawyer nodded solemnly, his expression betraying a hint of sadness. "Yes, he reached out to me," he confirmed, his tone somber. "He had some final instructions he wanted me to carry out."

Remo’s brow furrowed as he tried to make sense of the lawyer’s words. What final instructions could Mr. Falcone have given, and how did they factor into the current situation? The more questions he asked, the deeper the mystery seemed to become.

"And what were these final instructions?" Remo pressed, his voice filled with urgency. He knew that unraveling the truth behind Mr. Falcone’s actions was key to understanding the larger picture.

The lawyer hesitated for a moment, as if weighing his words carefully. "I’m afraid I can’t divulge the details just yet," he replied cryptically. "But rest assured, Mr. Falcone had his reasons."

Remo’s phone rang, interrupting the conversation with the lawyer. He glanced at the screen and saw Tony’s name flashing. With a sinking feeling in his chest, he answered the call.

"Tony, what’s going on?" Remo’s voice was tight with concern.

"Remo, I’ve been trying to reach Abby for some time now," Tony’s voice sounded urgent on the other end. "She’s not responding to my calls or messages. I went to check on her, and I wanted to call her for breakfast, but there’s no reply. I’m considering breaking inside. Is that okay?"

Remo’s heart sank at the news, a cold grip of worry tightening around him. "Yes, Tony, break in," he replied quickly, his mind racing with fear for Abby’s safety.

He heard Tony’s hurried footsteps and the sound of the door being forced open. Remo’s pulse quickened as he waited for Tony’s next report.

"Remo, Abby’s not in the bedroom," Tony’s voice came through the phone, tinged with concern. "But there seems to be water coming out of the bathroom. I’m going to check."

Remo’s chest tightened at the ominous news. "I’m on my way," he replied, his voice strained with worry.
