Chapter 98: Chapter 98 In fact, those scriptures were of great help

"Ah Lin, stop daydreaming—go ahead and eat," Guo Cuihua called out to Zhou Lin. Although she really wanted Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin to divorce, she wouldn’t forgo basic courtesy.

It was clear, however, that her demeanor towards Zhou Lin was distant and polite, while towards Meng Qiancheng, it was more like that of a family member.

Zhou Lin ate slowly and methodically, his facial expression revealing no signs of the turmoil within.

After the meal, Meng Qiancheng took the initiative to help Guo Cuihua clean up, Cheng Zhiwei went to wash the dishes, and Guo Cuihua washed the fruit.

It looked quite harmonious.

Zhou Lin cast a glance and then headed straight to Cheng Zhiwei’s room.

His visits to the Cheng family had been few, and he had never spent the night there, so he was not familiar with Cheng Zhiwei’s room, but a brief observation upon opening the door gave him the information he needed.

Although Cheng Zhiwei no longer lived at home, her room remained tidy and neat.

The small room was packed with traces of Cheng Zhiwei’s life from childhood to adulthood, with a variety of books on the bookshelves.

Zhou Lin looked over them one by one, his gaze lingering on a box on the very top shelf. He easily took it down and opened the lid to find a set of scriptures wrapped in cloth.

Next to it lay a small diary.

Flipping through it, every page was filled with Cheng Zhiwei’s emotions—starting from when she fell for him, nearly every entry was about him.

Her affection leaped off the page, crystal clear.

And so heart-racing.

But only halfway through, the diary was suddenly snatched away.

Cheng Zhiwei hid the diary behind her back and glared at him coldly, angrily saying, "Zhou Lin, I don’t recall giving you permission to enter my room."

Zhou Lin, hands in his pockets, leisurely observed her huffy appearance. "We’re husband and wife. Your room is also my room. What’s stopping me from entering?"

Brazen and self-justified.

Cheng Zhiwei stuffed the diary back into the box and lifted it, intending to place it back on the shelf.

But the shelf was too high, and as she reached up, she failed to put it back, and her sleeve slid down, revealing a stretch of fair forearm.

She couldn’t reach, even on tiptoes.

As she considered whether to fetch a stool, the weight of the box in her hands lightened—it had been taken by Zhou Lin, who effortlessly put it back in place.

Cheng Zhiwei paused, then her annoyance flared up, and she pushed Zhou Lin out of the room.

Zhou Lin took the opportunity to grab her wrist. "We should be going."

Cheng Zhiwei shook off his hand irritably. "If you want to leave, go by yourself. I won’t return tonight."

Zhou Lin’s eyebrows twitched. "You’re staying here?"

"Yes, what’s the matter? Is there a rule saying I can’t stay in my own house?" Cheng Zhiwei replied to Zhou Lin without any warmth.

A sense of restless irritation began to stir in Zhou Lin’s heart. She didn’t want to leave because Meng Qiancheng was still here, was that it?

"Cheng Zhiwei, don’t think that just because you’ve chanted a few scriptures for me, I’ll tolerate you challenging my limits," he said, the harsh words slipping out without filtering through his brain.

The facade of peace that had been upheld all day was finally shattered.

Sarcasm flitted through Cheng Zhiwei’s clear black-and-white eyes. See, she knew he was that cruel, "Of course, I would never be so presumptuous."

The atmosphere plummeted to freezing.

"Weiwei, what’s wrong?" Meng Qiancheng had already come over. "Do you need my help?"

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to drag Meng Qiancheng into this and immediately replied, "Brother Qiancheng, it’s nothing. We’re just about to head back."

"So early?" Meng Qiancheng’s gentle frown deepened, "Won’t you stay with Auntie a little longer? These days, Auntie has been alone at home, she must be hoping you’ll stay here a while longer."

Cheng Zhiwei averted her gaze, for the same reason she wanted to stay a bit longer, but Zhou Lin wouldn’t allow it. He was controlling and overbearing, and he had her life in his grasp; she was like a marionette, with no choice but to obey.

"It’s okay, I find it more peaceful being alone." Guo Cuihua came over, not wanting Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin to quarrel, especially since Cheng Zhiwei still had feelings for Zhou Lin.

Cheng Zhiwei gave Guo Cuihua a hug, "Then I’ll come to see you in a few days."

"All right, go back now." Guo Cuihua said with a smile, patting her on the shoulder.

Back in the car, Cheng Zhiwei leaned against the car window, silent.

Zhou Lin didn’t start the car right away, his voice deep as he said, "Sorry, I shouldn’t have said those words, the truth is, the scripture has been a great help to me."

This attempt at making amends did not elicit a response from Cheng Zhiwei. She just looked out the window, her gaze frosty.

Upon returning to Sparkling Sky City, the smell of medicine wafted through the house as soon as they entered.

Wang Mei brought the freshly simmered herbal medicine to Cheng Zhiwei, "Young Madam, the medicine needs to be drunk while it’s hot to be effective."

In the white porcelain bowl, the blackish-brown soup was as thick as ink.

Just one look was enough to conjure a bitter taste in the mouth.

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyebrows were knitted tightly, but she still braced herself and drank it all.

The bitterness of the medicine intensified on her taste buds. Her expressionless face instantly crumpled into a frown, and she covered her mouth, nearly jumping on the spot as she called out, "Water, water, water."

It was too bitter.

Wang Mei handed the sugar that was ready to Cheng Zhiwei, soothing her, "Eat the sugar, the bitterness will fade in a moment."

Cheng Zhiwei held her mouth for quite some time before she recovered.

Zhou Lin watched from not too far away, the corners of his lips curling up, his eyes and brows softening.

"The sugar was actually bought by the young master." Wang Mei, seeing that Cheng Zhiwei’s expression was less pained, couldn’t help but add.

Cheng Zhiwei’s expression changed slightly, then she went upstairs.

Wang Mei sighed softly, "In the past, it was the Young Madam who was wholeheartedly good to the young master, and he didn’t appreciate it. Now, the young master’s attitude towards the Young Madam is gradually improving, but the Young Madam is cold as ice. Who knows when they will be like a normal couple."

Having taken medicine at home for three consecutive days, and with the rain outside, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t even be bothered to step out the door. She didn’t know if it was because of the medicine, but she had been sleeping extremely well these past few days.

At four in the morning, she was awakened by the ringing of her cellphone.

Cheng Zhiyin’s voice came through the phone, piercing, "Zhiwei, help me."

Her groggy brain snapped to alertness, and Cheng Zhiwei sat up at once, "Sis."

From the phone came the sound of "thumping," mixed with a man’s curses.

Cheng Zhiwei’s face paled, "Are you at the hospital?"

"I’m in the restroom, Gao Wei has lost his mind."

"I’m on my way." Cheng Zhiwei slipped on her slippers, opened the door, and ran downstairs.

The bedroom door nearby also opened, and Zhou Lin quickly stepped forward, grabbing Cheng Zhiwei, "What’s the matter?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes were clouded over with panic, "I need to go to the hospital, my sister is in trouble."

Zhou Lin glanced at her and noticed she was only wearing a camisole nightgown. His eyebrows flickered and he immediately swept her up in his arms and carried her back.

"Zhou Lin, what are you doing?" Cheng Zhiwei struggled frantically, her fair little face flushed with anger, "Let me go, I need to go to the hospital."

Zhou Lin kicked the bedroom door open with his foot and placed her directly on the bed.
