The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 90 Bai Zhuzhu’s Suicide
Chapter 90: Chapter 90 Bai Zhuzhu’s Suicide
Cheng Zhiwei never expected that Cheng Zhiyin had been a victim of domestic violence and was pregnant. She looked at Cheng Zhiyin, with tears streaming down her face, and asked her, "What do you want to do then? Get a divorce?"
"I..." Cheng Zhiyin hesitated painfully, her hand subconsciously resting on her belly.
Cheng Zhiwei understood, "Sister, there’s only the first time and countless times for domestic violence and betrayal, and the child is still young. Everything can be reversed now. If you don’t divorce him, the only option is to report him to the police to stop him from daring to treat you like this again."
As the words fell, the door of the ward was pushed open by someone, "You can’t call the police."
A man with black-framed glasses strode in; it was Cheng Zhiyin’s husband, Gao Wei. He was dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, with a briefcase tucked under his arm, and his face was covered in a sheen of sweat. He rushed to Cheng Zhiyin, making a show of fussing over her, then finally turned to look at Cheng Zhiwei, "You’re here too, little sister."
Disgust flashed in Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes as she stood up, "You commit domestic violence and have an affair, why can’t I call the police?"
Gao Wei immediately showed a pained expression, grabbing Cheng Zhiyin’s hand and kneeling on the ground to admit his mistakes, "Zhiyin, I know I’ve wronged you, but I’m begging you, for the sake of our years together as husband and wife, please forgive me this one time. I promise there won’t be a next time."
Cheng Zhiyin hardened her heart, pulling her hand away, "Gao Wei, remember our years together. When you betrayed me, didn’t you think of me at all?"
Gao Wei slapped himself, "Zhiyin, I know you hate me, but think about it, the child in your belly is one we’ve had such a hard time hoping for. Can you bear to give it up?"
Children, truly a crucial leverage over women.
Cheng Zhiyin trembled and cried, yet she did not pull her hand back this time.
Cheng Zhiwei saw that Cheng Zhiyin’s resolve was softening and, irritated, she said coldly, "Sister, you need to think this through. If he could hit you for another woman, does being pregnant mean he won’t hit you anymore?"
Cheng Zhiyin hesitated; all she could see when she closed her eyes was the scene of Gao Wei hitting her naked and then leaving with that woman, as she herself struggled to dial 120.
With this thought, her heart grew colder and harder, "Zhiwei is right. Once there’s a first time, there’s a second time. Gao Wei, I don’t believe you anymore."
Gao Wei immediately panicked, apologizing again and again, mentioning transferring that woman to another school, and talking about how the child would be bullied behind its back for lacking a father, repeatedly using the child as a shield.
Cheng Zhiyin’s resolve softened once again.
Cheng Zhiwei frowned, "Sister."
"You go out first, I want to talk to Zhiwei alone," Cheng Zhiyin told Gao Wei.
Gao Wei wiped away a tear and left.
Cheng Zhiwei sat down heavily, "Sister, are you really going to forgive him?"
Cheng Zhiyin’s eyes dodged, carrying a bitter smile, "He’s not wrong. I can’t let my child be born without a father."
"But you..."
"I’m willing to give him one more chance, and I need your help to keep this from Mom," Cheng Zhiyin said with a bitter smile. "After all, we’re husband and wife. Who else can I rely on in this life besides him?"
Cheng Zhiwei was at a loss for words, all her attempts at persuasion had been said, but Cheng Zhiyin didn’t want to call the police, wanting to forgive Gao Wei.
She didn’t want to stay here at all.
"Since you’ve made up your mind, I’ll be leaving first," Cheng Zhiwei muttered, "Call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
As Cheng Zhiwei was leaving, she encountered Gao Wei, who gave her a flattering smile. He entered the ward and through the glass, Cheng Zhiwei saw Gao Wei saying something to Cheng Zhiyin, which made her smile.
Watching them, it seemed like a sham display of affection.
Feeling heaviness and discomfort in her chest, Cheng Zhiwei turned and left.
Just as she reached the door, someone suddenly grabbed her wrist. Cheng Zhiwei looked up and was met with Zhou Lin’s cold and indifferent gaze.
"Zhou Lin..."
Just as Cheng Zhiwei was about to speak, Zhou Lin dragged her inside. The words at her lips were interrupted. She frowned slightly but didn’t open her mouth again, merely struggling to keep up with his pace to avoid falling.
Stumbling all the way to the emergency room’s door, Cheng Zhiwei finally managed to free herself.
Rubbing her wrist, she raised her head to look at the "Emergency Treatment In Progress" sign and turned to ask Secretary Zhang, "What happened?"
Secretary Zhang said, "Miss Bai attempted suicide inside."
"Suicide?" Cheng Zhiwei looked again towards the emergency room. So, the person lying inside was Bai Zhuzhu?
No wonder Zhou Lin was here, looking so terribly upset.
But what did Bai Zhuzhu’s suicide have to do with her?
Cheng Zhiwei turned to leave, but Zhou Lin’s voice came coldly from behind, "Cheng Zhiwei, Zhuzhu admitted she was jealous of you, poisoned you. She said she used her own life to compensate for your voice. Are you satisfied now?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s expression showed faint fractures. She hadn’t misheard, had she? Zhou Lin was blaming her for Bai Zhuzhu’s suicide?
How absurd.
"She was the poisoner, and she was the one who committed suicide. What does that have to do with me?" Cheng Zhiwei turned to face Zhou Lin, her expression mocking and indifferent, "Zhou Lin, what, wasn’t it you who said you wanted to teach her a lesson, to have her locked up?"
Zhou Lin walked over in a few steps, his expression filled with deep disdain, "It’s all your usual tactics."
Cheng Zhiwei found it extremely funny, "My tactics? Zhou Lin, now it’s you who refuses to divorce, you brought me to the company party, allowed He Lanzhi to spread rumors everywhere, making me a target of gossip. If you’d agreed to the divorce, none of this would have happened."
In the end, it always came back to divorce.
Zhou Lin’s lips pressed into a straight line, his eyes dark and heavy, "Cheng Zhiwei, haven’t you learned to behave yet?"
The threats, here they came again.
Cheng Zhiwei curled her fingers, a fine pain slowly engulfing her.
In the prolonged silence, the door to the emergency room opened, and Bai Zhuzhu was wheeled out. Her head was wrapped in gauze, and a hint of red was barely visible on her forehead; her complexion was very pale and unseemly.
The doctor, removing his mask, said, "Lucky we got her here in time, no serious damage. Just observe her for a few more days and don’t agitate her."
Cheng Zhiwei thought expressionlessly, as expected, she wouldn’t die so easily.
She decisively left to see Guo Cuihua, only mentioning that Cheng Zhiyin had taken a tumble but was alright, just unable to come to the hospital. This reassured Guo Cuihua.
As for Cheng Zhiyin being a victim of domestic abuse, she chose to keep it secret for now.
After another week in the hospital, Guo Cuihua was discharged. Cheng Zhiwei helped to pack up the things and was ready to leave when she saw two men entering the door simultaneously.
Zhou Lin and Meng Qiancheng.
They exchanged a glance and then looked away.
"Auntie, I’m here to pick you up from the hospital." Meng Qiancheng spoke first, bending down to pick up Guo Cuihua’s bag.
Zhou Lin indifferently supported Guo Cuihua’s other arm with a steady tone, "I’ll help you."
Cheng Zhiwei was frustrated and simply fell half a step behind, taking out her phone to message Xu Tian, asking where she was.
Xu Tian replied that she had already arrived at the hospital entrance. Only then did Cheng Zhiwei breathe a sigh of relief and caught up with the others.
At the entrance, Cheng Zhiwei spotted Xu Tian’s car at first glance.
