Chapter 89: Chapter 89: She is Young Madam Zhou, Recognized by Mr. and Mrs. Zhou Chenyuan
"Zhiwei." A warm palm slipped through her fingers, Lin Yu called out with tender concern.
Cheng Zhiwei quickly looked down and wiped away her tears, "Mom."
"From today on, everyone will know that you are our daughter-in-law. Don’t take those rumors to heart, they are all just jealous of you."
Cheng Zhiwei’s spirit jolted, "Okay."
Lin Yu navigated with ease through the crowd, even conspicuously showcasing her affection for her.
No matter what Cheng Zhiwei had done, she was now the Young Madam of the Zhou Family and, moreover, had obtained the approval of Zhou Chenyuan and his wife.
This fact was the most useful, and for a while, the rumors slowly subsided.
Lin Yu was very pleased and slipped the jade bracelet she was wearing onto Cheng Zhiwei’s wrist. Her skin was white, and the bracelet, a vibrant green--a beauty that complemented each other emerged.
Cheng Zhiwei understood Lin Yu’s intention and felt warmth in her heart.
Lin Yu had Zhou Lin bring Cheng Zhiwei here to make her identity public, which could stir up the past events for people to gossip about, but Lin Yu also took tangible actions to protect her.
Therefore, the next day, no earth-shattering news emerged.
Cheng Zhiwei put down her phone and breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed Zhou Lin didn’t want to make too big of a fuss after all.
After finishing breakfast, Cheng Zhiwei went to the hospital. After Guo Cuihua had her breakfast, Meng Qiancheng arrived, exchanged some pleasantries, and then walked out with Cheng Zhiwei.
Meng Qiancheng immediately asked Cheng Zhiwei why she had made her marriage to Zhou Lin public. He furrowed his brows deeply, "Do you realize how much this could affect you?"
Cheng Zhiwei was a bit puzzled. How did Meng Qiancheng know about this? But she didn’t ask, only explaining, "I found out about it later. It was his parents’ idea."
It wasn’t the act of retaliation from Zhou Lin that he had initially thought.
However, making her identity public was a double-edged sword, but Lin Yu had protected her very well.
"His parents? What are they trying to do?" Meng Qiancheng, clearly upset, said darkly, "Do they really want to drag you along with Zhou Lin, for him to torment you?"
"They meant well." Cheng Zhiwei offered a brief explanation.
At least she was doing well now.
"I think it’s a false kindness," Meng Qiancheng said emotionally, "They know Zhou Lin doesn’t like you, yet they treat you like this, Weiwei, I don’t think his family really considers you one of them."
Cheng Zhiwei frowned; she didn’t quite agree with Meng Qiancheng’s words. While Zhou Lin was harsh to her, Zhou Chenyuan and his wife truly treated her like family. Moreover, by making her identity public, everyone would know that she was Zhou Lin’s wife in the legal sense, entitled to rights, and in the future, if Seo Zhenzhen were to come back and get involved with Zhou Lin again, she might well bear the stigma of being the other woman.
She had thought it through clearly, without a trace of resentment.
"You, you’re just too naive," sighed Meng Qiancheng helplessly, "Don’t forget, if it weren’t for them making you marry Zhou Lin in the first place, none of these things would’ve happened. Weiwei, you shouldn’t have had to suffer so much."
His last words were imbued with deep, lingering affection.
Cheng Zhiwei was silent for a moment before looking up at Meng Qiancheng, "Brother Qiancheng, you don’t have to take to heart what my mom said, I’m really doing fine."
"Weiwei..."
"That’s all, Brother Qiancheng," Cheng Zhiwei cut him off, "You should go back to work."
After saying that, she entered the ward.
Meng Qiancheng’s affections hadn’t made her feel happy but had instead added to her burden. She didn’t even want Meng Qiancheng to bring up matters of the heart.
"Zhiwei," Guo Cuihua called out, her voice tinged with urgency.
Cheng Zhiwei hurriedly composed herself and walked in, "What’s wrong, Mom?"
Guo Cuihua, holding her cell phone with anxious expression, said, "I just called your sister, and there was a lot of noise on her end before the call got hung up. I hope nothing’s happened to her."
Cheng Zhiwei tried to soothe Guo Cuihua, then took out her phone to call Cheng Zhiyin. After several attempts, no one answered. "Did Sister say she was coming back today?"
Cheng Zhiyin had been away for a study session and was due back in Yucheng today. Her flight should have already landed, and Guo Cuihua had called to see if she had arrived.
"She said she would be back today and that she would come see me after delivering some things," Guo Cuihua sighed. "Who knows what she’s up to now?"
Just then, Cheng Zhiwei’s phone rang, and an unfamiliar voice spoke, "Is this Miss Cheng Zhiwei? This is Central City Hospital..."
Cheng Zhiwei rushed to Central City Hospital, and in the ward, she saw Cheng Zhiyin.
Cheng Zhiyin’s face was bruised and swollen, her hand was wrapped in bandages, and she looked terrible.
Cheng Zhiwei was shocked, "Sister, how did you end up like this?"
Cheng Zhiyin gave a weak smile, "I just slipped down the stairs. I must have scared you looking like this, huh?"
Cheng Zhiwei tugged at her lips, carefully examining Cheng Zhiyin’s wounds. She couldn’t help her eyebrows twitching, "Are you sure these injuries are from a fall?"
They looked more like she had been beaten.
Cheng Zhiyin struggled to sit up, and Cheng Zhiwei quickly stuffed a pillow behind her.
"Would I lie to you? I fell down the stairs at the airport," Cheng Zhiyin sighed. "I’ve only told you, so don’t tell Mom. I don’t want her to worry. Oh, and you’ve been taking care of Mom all by yourself lately. It must have been hard."
Guo Cuihua had been in an accident and Cheng Zhiyin had wanted to come back, but she would have failed if she took leave. Only after Cheng Zhiwei assured her that Guo Cuihua’s condition was stable did she decide not to return.
"Mom’s fine, but she’s been frantic because you weren’t answering your phone," said Cheng Zhiwei, all the while discreetly observing Cheng Zhiyin. "Where’s your husband? Didn’t you call him?"
Cheng Zhiyin’s expression turned awkward for a moment before she quickly covered it up, "You know how it is; your brother-in-law is now a principal and very busy. I thought I’d call you first and let him come over after work."
Cheng Zhiwei was noncommittal, "Busy or not, he should be concerned if his wife is hurt. I’m calling him."
"Zhiwei, don’t," Cheng Zhiyin tried to stop her, but she moved too much and immediately pulled at her wound, letting out a cry of pain.
Cheng Zhiwei remained still, only frowning as she looked at Cheng Zhiyin, "Sister, you still won’t tell me the truth?"
Cheng Zhiyin’s lips quivered, and suddenly, tears began to fall. "He hit me."
Cheng Zhiwei’s expression turned cold, and her voice rose, "He abused you?"
Cheng Zhiyin was a primary school teacher, and her husband, Gao Wei, the principal. They were known as a model couple, and Cheng Zhiwei had always admired their seemingly perfect relationship. The news of Gao Wei’s domestic violence was shocking to her.
With tears streaming down her face, Cheng Zhiyin said, "My flight landed an hour early today, and I wanted to surprise him. But then... I walked in on him and another woman in our room..."
She couldn’t continue for sobbing.
"Call the police," Cheng Zhiwei said icily, "You must call the police."
"No," Cheng Zhiyin urgently protested, "We can’t call the police."
"Sister..."
"I’m pregnant."
