Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Zhou Lin, I Really Regret Falling for You

"Cheng Zhiwei, your parents..."

"Do you also think it’s a delightful thing if my parents died in the Northwest, it’s the retribution I, Cheng Zhiwei, deserve."

Cheng Zhiwei looked up at Zhou Lin, hate, tinged with scorn, growing out of her ash-gray expression—it was so clear. She clutched his clothes, gripping tightly.

"You could have solved it with just one word... all you had to do was speak up..." She was in so much pain, her voice caught in her throat, emotions collapsing and sliding down.

Zhou Lin, at a loss for words, softened involuntarily in some corner of his heart amidst her helpless crying. After a long moment, he opened his mouth and said, "I didn’t know... I called the principal."

"No need." Cheng Zhiwei stepped back, looking at Zhou Lin for the first time with a completely foreign and indifferent gaze, looking at the man she had once loved the most.

"Cheng Zhiwei, don’t you want them to stay?" Zhou Lin couldn’t understand; she was so agitated, wasn’t it all for this reason?

"They have already boarded the plane and left." Cheng Zhiwei’s ironic chuckle rang out, "Right when you were discussing projects with the principal, leaving me behind to see Seo Zhenzhen, they had already boarded the plane."

Zhou Lin frowned slightly, his lips moved, and he said something rare, "Sorry, I didn’t know..."

"It’s not that you didn’t know, it’s just that you only have Seo Zhenzhen in your heart."

"This has nothing to do with Zhenzhen," Zhou Lin immediately retorted.

Cheng Zhiwei looked up, giving a cold laugh, "If it wasn’t for her, how would Bai Zhuzhu have known that my parents went to the Northwest, so eager for my parents to die?"

"She... maybe she found out from someone else."

With the issue out in the open, Zhou Lin was still making excuses for those two sisters.

Cheng Zhiwei’s reasoning was burned up by rage, fire hiding in her gaze, she clenched her fist and pounded hard against Zhou Lin’s chest, venting all her emotions with all her might.

Her voice pierced and shattered, desolate.

"She lost her legs, so she wants my parents to die with her? You all hate me, then come at me, why do you have to do that to my parents; they’re so old, how can they endure such hardship."

"If I repay her with my life, you should be satisfied, right?"

"Cheng Zhiwei, what are you trying to do?" Zhou Lin’s face paled with shock.

"I’m going to die."

A desperate laugh erupted from Cheng Zhiwei as she threw herself directly at the car that had just arrived.

A loud screeching of brakes echoed through the underground parking lot.

Zhou Lin’s pupils shook, and with quick reflexes, he managed to pull Cheng Zhiwei back.

Zhou Lin gripped her wrist, facing her reddened eyes brimming with hate, his temper flaring as well, "Cheng Zhiwei, have you made enough of a scene?"

The driver, startled, stuck out his head and cursed, "Are you fucking crazy? Go die away from here."

As his words fell, he met Zhou Lin’s furious dark eyes and glanced at the car by his side, quickly retracting his head and walking away cursing.

Cheng Zhiwei had lost her mind; she struggled furiously, kicking, biting, and clawing at Zhou Lin, her voice hoarse to the point of near-silence, "You want me to repay her with my legs, right? Why are you holding on to me? I’ll repay her right now, give you what you wished for."

This was the second time Zhou Lin had seen Cheng Zhiwei so hysterical.

The last time was when Bai Zhuzhu had used her master bedroom.

But this time, she erupted even more violently, leaving Zhou Lin somewhat at a loss to handle it.

He simply wrapped his arms tightly, pinning her completely against himself, his voice icily stern, "Enough, Cheng Zhiwei, I already said I would contact the school, stop making a scene."

Cheng Zhiwei clutched at his black suit, crying in breakdown; he thought she was this agitated because her parents left, but it was not just that.

The departure of her parents was merely the spark that ignited everything; it was Zhou Lin’s habitual indifference and hurtfulness that caused her suppressed emotions to completely erupt.

Word by word, filled with endless regret, "Zhou Lin, I truly regret falling for you."

Zhou Lin’s mind reeled, his eyes grew dark, and the body in his arms went limp.

Cheng Zhiwei fainted.

After an emotional outburst, she felt exceptionally exhausted.

Lying still and looking up at the ceiling, Cheng Zhiwei pulled herself up after the nurse withdrew the needle, turned her head slightly to look at Wang Mei, and with a hoarse voice spoke, "I want to go home."

Wang Mei advised, "The doctor said your emotions are unstable, it would be better to stay for two more days."

"I want to go home," Cheng Zhiwei repeated.

Wang Mei wanted to persuade her further, but Meng Qiancheng walked in, his white coat and gold-rimmed glasses lending him an air of detached coolness that instantly turned gentle upon touching Cheng Zhiwei.

He bent down slightly, touched Cheng Zhiwei’s forehead, his voice filled with sorrow, "Weiwei, how did you get yourself into such a sorry state?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s tears rolled down her cheeks as she gripped Meng Qiancheng’s clothes, too upset to speak; it took her a long time to rasp out, "Mom and Dad went to the Northwest."

Meng Qiancheng paused, "The Northwest? How come?"

The Northwest was inherently harsh, and historical research was often conducted in desolate places, which was even tougher.

Cheng Shang and his wife were getting on in years and on the verge of retirement; there was no need for them to endure such hardship. Moreover, many young people were willing to face adversity for the sake of their careers. With their personalities, they wouldn’t compete with the young for such opportunities.

"Was it Zhou Lin?" Meng Qiancheng’s tone turned instantly icy.

At the mention of this name, Cheng Zhiwei cried so hard she nearly passed out, unable to speak for a long while.

"Don’t cry, Weiwei, we’ll figure something out," Meng Qiancheng comforted her.

"Is Doctor Meng’s solution to change the medication for Cheng Zhiwei’s throat?" A sarcastic voice sounded. Zhou Lin had come to see if Cheng Zhiwei had woken up, but instead, he found her lying in Meng Qiancheng’s arms, being consoled.

He couldn’t control the sneer that slipped from his mouth.

Cheng Zhiwei turned her face away, quickly adjusting her mood; she didn’t want Zhou Lin to see her looking so desolate again.

"What medication change?" Meng Qiancheng was puzzled.

Zhou Lin had already walked in, staring at Cheng Zhiwei with a mocking sneer, "You actually still trust him?"

Meng Qiancheng frowned, asking Cheng Zhiwei what exactly had happened.

Cheng Zhiwei had been intending to ask Meng Qiancheng about the medication; it was just that too many things had happened lately, and she hadn’t had the chance.

She didn’t want Zhou Lin to blame Meng Qiancheng with his sarcastic remarks, so she took the initiative to say, "I went for a checkup when my throat was sometimes fine and sometimes not, and the doctor said the wrong medication was used for my throat."

"That... can’t be possible," Meng Qiancheng’s eyes flashed with a cold light.

"Then how does Doctor Meng explain that her throat has improved a lot these past few days without seeing you?" Zhou Lin taunted unabashedly, "A doctor trained abroad, that’s how incompetent you are?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s lips were pursed; she looked at him with a chilly calm, "Perhaps it’s just a misunderstanding."

"Weiwei, I will find out the truth and give you an explanation," Meng Qiancheng promised solemnly, "Do you trust me?"

"I trust Brother Qiancheng," Cheng Zhiwei chose to stand by Meng Qiancheng without any hesitation.

"Good, wait for me," Meng Qiancheng left in a hurry.

Zhou Lin looked down at Cheng Zhiwei for a long time, his lips curving into a mocking smile; faced with the reality that Cheng Zhiwei actually trusted Meng Qiancheng, he scoffed.
