Chapter 57: Feeding the Ungrateful White-eyed Wolf

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Feeding the Ungrateful White-eyed Wolf

"You go wait for him at the school gate; he’ll be there soon," Seo Zhenzhen said with a detached gaze towards Bai Zhuzhu. "Zhuzhu, let’s go back."

As Bai Zhuzhu pushed the wheelchair toward the residential area, her voice carried from a distance, "I’ve been so stifled these past few days. Let’s have Brother Lin take us to Taste of the World for dinner, the food there is really delicious. Sister, you haven’t been there, have you?"

Cheng Zhiwei withdrew her gaze and curved her lips slightly. It was quite interesting that two sisters had fallen for the same man.

She hoped that they would always be as affectionate towards each other as they seemed.

Clearing these miscellaneous thoughts from her mind, she hurried to the school.

The two sisters, not yet far away, saw Bai Zhuzhu hand over the wheelchair to the nanny and pout unhappily, "Sister, Cheng Zhiwei has made me suffer so much, yet you’re still asking Brother Lin to help her. You’re really too weak."

Seo Zhenzhen wasn’t angry at all, whether it was Bai Zhuzhu’s boasting or her current complaints; her face remained gentle, "Zhuzhu, hold back a little, next time I may not be able to bail you out so easily."

"I don’t need you to, Brother Lin will save me," Bai Zhuzhu looked down on Seo Zhenzhen dismissively. "You should hurry back for your treatment, lest you really can’t stand up later."

Seo Zhenzhen shook her head helplessly, her face full of indulgence for Bai Zhuzhu.

...

Outside the principal’s office.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t have to wait long before Zhou Lin arrived, his tall figure wrapped in a black suit, his expression stern. He glanced at Cheng Zhiwei and then stepped inside.

Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip and followed him in.

After exchanging pleasantries, the two discussed a project. Just when Cheng Zhiwei wanted to remind Zhou Lin about her parents going to the Northwest, Zhou Lin’s phone rang.

He made a pausing gesture and picked up the call.

The next second, his expression turned sour, and he stood up to tell the principal, "I apologize, but I have an emergency and must leave immediately."

Naturally, the principal wasn’t going to offend Zhou Lin and kindly expressed understanding.

Cheng Zhiwei’s mind went blank; she grabbed Zhou Lin’s clothes, her face pale as she looked at him, "Zhou Lin, you can’t leave."

Her hand was brushed off mercilessly.

Zhou Lin left hastily with Secretary Zhang.

Cheng Zhiwei stood there, her hands and feet cold, her lips trembling; she restrained her emotions and turned to the principal, "Principal..."

The principal still wore his friendly countenance, but the words that came out didn’t give Cheng Zhiwei any chances, "I have a meeting to attend immediately, we can talk about it another time."

"Principal, I’m Professor Cheng Shang’s daughter. I’d like you to reconsider the assignment of sending my parents to the Northwest, they are getting old..."

"Professor Cheng’s daughter, that’s a decision the school made a long time ago; it can’t be changed now."

"But..."

"The conditions there are tough, but that’s the nature of historical research, isn’t it? Besides, the professors are going with students, and the staff will take good care of them; you needn’t worry."

"But..."

"We’ll talk later," said the principal as he left in a hurry.

Cheng Zhiwei stood in the empty office, the acid rising in her throat making it hard for her to breathe. She didn’t have time to talk later, her parents were about to leave.

Even though her relationship with Cheng Shang wasn’t good, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t stand by and watch them go to the Northwest. Both were old and in poor health.

She clenched her teeth and chased after him, "Principal..."

The principal had already entered the elevator.

Cheng Zhiwei stood for a while before being escorted out by security.

She stood at the front door, dispirited, and took out her phone to call Zhou Lin. There was still time, she couldn’t panic.

As long as Zhou Lin said one word, her parents could still stay.

But... no one answered the call.

All Cheng Zhiwei could do was call Secretary Zhang, whose voice was very low, "Miss Seo has fallen, and right now Young President Zhou is at the hospital with her. Young Madam, is there something wrong?"

Seo Zhenzhen had fallen?

Cheng Zhiwei held her phone, bitter enough to want to cry.

It had been on purpose.

She had done it on purpose.

She didn’t know who had bumped her, but her phone dropped with a "bang" to the ground. Cheng Zhiwei picked it up, the screen already shattered.

Fortunately, it was still usable.

She brought up Lin Yu’s number from the contacts on her phone and called him. Now, only Lin Yu could help her.

Fortunately, Lin Yu answered quickly.

Cheng Zhiwei speedily recounted what had happened, her voice choking up several times, almost bursting into tears.

Lin Yu comforted her, telling her not to worry, Zhou Chenyuan would handle it.

Just after hanging up the phone, Guo Cuihua called, "The school has given sudden notice, we must go now, we are about to board the plane soon, Zhiwei, take good care of yourself and don’t make mom worry."

Cheng Zhiwei stood frozen, how could it be so fast...

"We’re boarding now, I’m hanging up," Guo Cuihua said, and her voice instantly vanished from the phone.

Lin Yu’s call came too, "The school says your parents have already boarded the plane, Zhiwei, what’s going on?"

"Thank you, I know," said Cheng Zhiwei weakly, hanging up the phone. People bustled around her, but she felt utterly alone and lifeless.

Zhou Lin, why couldn’t you just wait, it was just a word from you.

In the hospital, Zhou Lin came out of the ward, and Secretary Zhang reminded him, "Young Madam called, and it seemed like it was urgent."

Zhou Lin took out his own phone from his pocket and indeed saw several missed calls, all from Cheng Zhiwei. He then thought about the incident Seo Zhenzhen mentioned earlier, about Professor Cheng Shang and his wife being reported, and frowned, dialing the number back.

But, no one answered anymore.

"Don’t bother with her," Zhou Lin said impatiently. "Arrange for someone to take good care of Zhenzhen. Today’s incident must never happen again."

In the ward, Bai Zhuzhu giggled, "You still have a way, sister. Now Cheng Zhiwei can only stand by and watch."

Seo Zhenzhen spoke indifferently, "What ways? I simply fell by accident, which unfortunately interrupted Zhiwei’s business because the maid made such a fuss and hurriedly called Ah Lin over."

"Yes, yes, sister, it was an accident," Bai Zhuzhu agreed with Seo Zhenzhen’s words, but her heart was filled with disdain, mocking the pretense. She left the ward with her phone in hand.

Cheng Zhiwei rushed to the hospital, furious, and went straight to Seo Zhenzhen’s ward. Seeing her nonchalant expression, Cheng Zhiwei felt a surge of pain in her forehead.

She asked bluntly, "Seo Zhenzhen, why did you do this?"

Seo Zhenzhen bit her lip in confusion, sincerely apologizing, "I’m sorry, Zhiwei, did I delay your business? It was the nanny making a mountain out of a molehill, getting all flustered over my fall and calling Ah Lin here."

Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fist, looking at Seo Zhenzhen with cold disgust, "You knew my parents were old, and yet you still did this. Seo Zhenzhen, are you even human?"

Overwhelmed by anger, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t bother to hold back, hurling insults, "They should never have sponsored you, and taken you into their home to feed and clothe you. You’re nothing but an ungrateful wretch."
