Chapter 483: Chapter 483: The Fatal Illness is of the Heart
A farce finally ended with Bo Ye forcibly stuffing the woman into the car.
He looked deeply at Wen Ya, then turned to leave.
Wen Yongan stopped him, speaking with a very calm tone, "Bo Ye, let’s call it even on the past, but I hope you will no longer come looking for Wen Ya in the future. Also, keep an eye on your people and don’t bring trouble to our doorstep again."
Now that he had Zhou Lin backing him up, Wen Yongan spoke with much more confidence.
He wasn’t afraid of offending Bo Ye.
Bo Ye surprisingly bowed his head to apologize, "Sorry, this won’t happen again."
The car left.
Wen Ya squatted down and hugged Wen Jun. Despite the harsh words she had spoken in front of Bo Ye that day, she had never been negligent in her care for Wen Jun.
"Mommy." Wen Jun clung to Wen Ya’s neck. He had known since he was little that he wasn’t her biological child, but because Wen Ya was kind to him, he always called her Mommy.
And he considered Wen Ya his mother.
Back then, Wen Yongan wanted to arrange for some men to meet Wen Ya and even suggested that Wen Jun should call Wen Ya "aunt."
Wen Jun refused to comply.
Wen Ya also used the fact that she wasn’t divorced yet as an excuse to reject them.
No one ever thought that one day, Wen Jun’s biological mother would come causing a scene.
"It’s alright." Wen Ya soothed Wen Jun and once again explained their relationship clearly, asking for his opinion.
Even though he was only four years old, Wen Ya respected his decision.
If he wanted to seek out his birth parents, she would let him go.
Wen Jun, however, didn’t want to leave. That woman was crazy, and it truly scared him.
Wen Ya sighed and held him close to her heart.
Having settled the matter here, Cheng Zhiwei followed Zhou Lin back to Yucheng.
She had a lot to do.
Life was mundane yet busy.
The studio expanded, and Ding Kun became the main person in charge, busying himself like a spinning top, hiring and training newcomers, becoming a qualified agent.
Cheng Zhiwei slowly faded into the background, handing over all the studio’s work to Ding Kun, occasionally helping to guide the new artists.
Her initial dream was to shine on the highest stage, but now, she preferred to stay at home with the children, accompanying Zhou Lin as his partner for various events when he needed her.
At the end of the year, Xu Tian got married.
She took the small company left to He Yuming by He Lanzhi’s father and developed it step by step, now firmly re-establishing it in Yucheng.
Her marriage was a business union, a strong alliance.
With no family on her side, only Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin sat at the main table.
With the two of them sitting there, no one dared mock Xu Tian for the lack of her family,
and in fact, they even looked up to Xu Tian a bit more.
During the toast, Xu Tian’s eyes reddened. Her husband wrapped an arm around her shoulders, whispering in a low voice, "It’s a happy day; don’t cry. It wouldn’t look good if your makeup runs."
The young man’s tone was tender, every move showing his care for her.
Cheng Zhiwei saw this and knew that Xu Tian had married the right man.
She blessed Xu Tian.
Xu Tian glanced at Zhou Lin and sighed, "Although he’s been terrible, he has also changed quite a bit. If you feel comfortable with it, you should accept him."
Over the years, she had seen all that Zhou Lin had done for Cheng Zhiwei and sometimes thought Zhou Lin was quite pitiable. Therefore, she wanted to persuade Cheng Zhiwei.
Why push away happiness when it’s within reach,
especially since they had three well-behaved and obedient children.
Zhou Lin looked at Xu Tian gratefully.
Xu Tian, however, was unimpressed, simply saying, "I’m thinking of the three children."
Zhou Lin nodded, "I understand."
It wasn’t until they moved to another table that Zhou Lin looked at Cheng Zhiwei with deep amusement, "What do you think about her suggestion?"
"Sure, I’ll consider it," Cheng Zhiwei agreed.
Such an answer was already exhilarating for Zhou Lin, who couldn’t help but grasp her hand tightly, looking as if he wanted to go to the registry office right away.
However, considering the circumstances, he quickly calmed down.
Cheng Zhiwei then added, "Let’s wait until Yangyang and Qiqi come back."
She hoped that one day, their family of five would be reunited.
"Okay."
Zhou Lin pondered whether to call the officer to request Cheng Yang and Zhou Ruoki to return early.
After the wedding, the two drove home.
They hadn’t gone far when Cheng Zhiwei received a call from Guo Cuihua, saying that Cheng Shang wasn’t doing well.
Holding the phone tightly, Cheng Zhiwei was a bit stunned, "How could this be?"
She had clearly sent a doctor back to her hometown to treat Cheng Shang.
The doctor had said that as long as Cheng Shang took his medicine on time, his condition was controllable, and that his senile dementia wouldn’t worsen for at least five years.
How could it suddenly have become so serious?
Guo Cuihua sobbed, "He fell down the stairs."
"Don’t cry, I’ll come over right away."
Every day, Cheng Shang would sit in a daze, and nobody could persuade him otherwise. It must have been some trouble on his mind, and while descending the stairs in a mentally absent state, he missed a step and tumbled down.
Guo Cuihua’s eyes were swollen and red, her hair having turned much whiter.
Due to the past events, she resented Cheng Shang, but after many years of marriage, she was filled with sorrow.
"Mom." Cheng Zhiyin took her hand, speaking softly, "Zhiwei is already on her way."
"It’s hard on her," Guo Cuihua said tearfully.
"Zhiwei isn’t cold-hearted; she speaks harshly, but in reality, she has the softest heart."
"Yes."
When Cheng Zhiwei arrived, it was already 8 p.m. She stood outside the hospital door for a while before entering.
Inside the ward, Cheng Shang was lying unconscious.
He had aged a great deal, his body almost nothing but skin and bones.
The machines beeped repeatedly, emitting a cold sound.
"What did the doctor say?" she asked.
Guo Cuihua sat in a chair, her tears falling again, "The doctor says he has no will to live."
Tumbling down the stairs wasn’t fatal; what was lethal was his heart disease, his inability to eat or sleep, which had left him so emaciated.
Cheng Zhiwei fell silent.
Everyone knew what was ailing his heart.
"I’ve made soup for him, but he has refused to take a single bite up until now," Guo Cuihua covered her face. She felt very guilty, because of that event, she had complaints against him, and couldn’t treat him well.
Sometimes, when they sat together and he tried to talk to her, she wouldn’t really engage.
Now she thought about it, his listlessness might have resulted from her lack of communication.
"Mom, it’s not your fault," Cheng Zhiyin comforted her while putting an arm around Guo Cuihua’s shoulders.
No one can predict what will happen, so it wasn’t Guo Cuihua’s fault, after all, she had suffered no less pain than Cheng Shang.
"You should go rest. Tonight, my sister and I will stay here," Cheng Zhiwei arranged, "Come back tomorrow morning with some more soup for him."
"I can stay here; you guys go back," Guo Cuihua refused to leave.
She wanted to stay with Cheng Shang.
At least to accompany him through these last moments.
Thus, the three of them didn’t leave, taking turns resting on a small bed, watching over Cheng Shang.
Cheng Shang woke up once in between, with a blank and lifeless look in his eyes. Guo Cuihua spoke to him, but he showed no response and soon fell back asleep.
