Chapter 475: You Don’t Have to Take Responsibility
Chapter 475: Chapter 475: You Don’t Have to Take Responsibility
"I’m willing to take responsibility," Huo Xuan voluntarily said. "Let’s get married."
Cheng Zhiyin’s mental state wasn’t too good, as if she hadn’t heard Huo Xuan’s words, she just stared blankly.
Huo Xuan added, "I was cornered by Huo Yaya, with no other options but to come here, Zhiyin. I will take responsibility for you."
He spoke with sincere emotion.
Only then did Cheng Zhiyin slowly turn her gaze toward Huo Xuan, her lips turning pale, "You don’t need to take responsibility, Huo Xuan. We are both adults now. It’s normal to have a relationship; there’s no need to talk about taking or not taking responsibility."
Her complexion looked poor, but she spoke frankly.
She didn’t need Huo Xuan to take responsibility for her.
Besides, it started with him coercing her, but later she had consented.
Huo Xuan’s expression froze; he hadn’t expected such a response.
Once Cheng Zhiyin had spoken, the words that followed came more easily. "Really, Huo Xuan, we are all adults now. Let’s not act like those young people who rush to take responsibility. Besides, I can’t get pregnant."
She had thought things through clearly.
Huo Xuan’s face turned pale, unbelieving.
But he couldn’t utter another word.
Just as he was about to speak, the door was pounded so loudly it thundered.
Upon opening the door, Huo Yaya’s loud voice came in, "Cheng Zhiyin, you are shameless."
She already knew what had happened.
That’s why she was so furious, otherwise, she would be the one with Huo Xuan at this moment.
Thinking of how Huo Xuan had forcibly gone to see Cheng Zhiyin, she was filled with jealousy and anger.
Cheng Zhiyin looked up at her with an expressionless face.
Huo Xuan had already grabbed Huo Yaya, gritting his teeth, "Huo Yaya, if it weren’t for your despicable actions, none of this would have happened. What right do you have to question her here?"
He was stern and cold.
Huo Yaya suddenly turned pitiful, looking at Huo Xuan pleadingly, "Brother, forgive me this once, I really didn’t mean it."
"Huo Yaya, I have forgiven you many times already, but you only make me dislike you more," Huo Xuan said harshly, leaving no face.
Today, he was supposed to go on a matchmaking date according to Madam Huo’s wishes.
Unexpectedly, Huo Yaya also went. Initially, she behaved herself, only saying she had truly changed and was sincerely wishing them well.
But then, when Huo Xuan wasn’t paying attention, she secretly spiked his coffee.
Huo Xuan reacted, kicking Huo Yaya out of the car halfway there and went to seek Cheng Zhiyin instead.
He hadn’t expected Huo Yaya to actually come.
Tears fell from Huo Yaya’s eyes. "Brother, I really didn’t mean it."
"I should have listened to Ah Lin back then and sent you to a mental hospital," Huo Xuan said coldly.
Huo Yaya paused for a moment, then suddenly rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and began cursing Cheng Zhiwei to die like a madwoman.
Then she turned the knife on herself, crying, "Since you hate me, may as well hate me forever."
Her arms were filled with many scars, showing how serious her previous suicide attempts had been.
But before she could act, the knife had already flown out of her hands.
Zhou Lin said coldly, "If you want to die, don’t die here."
He immediately called someone to restrain Huo Yaya.
Huo Yaya screamed and yelled, unable to accept this outcome.
She had wanted to force Huo Xuan into marrying her by presenting him with a fait accompli, but Huo Xuan had more endurance than she had anticipated.
Cheng Zhiyin diverted her gaze, not wanting to look any longer.
But just as Huo Yaya was being forcibly loaded into the ambulance, Madam Huo arrived.
Seeing the words "mental hospital," she blacked out.
Huo Yaya was banging on the door begging Madam Huo to save her.
Madam Huo prevented the vehicle from leaving, pleadingly looking at Huo Xuan, "Huo Xuan, no matter what, Yaya is still your sister. How can you send her to a mental hospital?"
She couldn’t imagine how Huo Yaya would cope alone in a mental hospital.
Huo Xuan coldly laid out the facts about Huo Yaya drugging him, "I can’t let such a person continue to live at home. She’s too dangerous."
Madam Huo was stunned.
"Or, Mom, do you have to see me dead at her hands before you agree?"
Madam Huo was speechless.
"No, Mom," Huo Yaya wasn’t ready to admit it. "It’s Brother who wants to marry Cheng Zhiyin, that’s why he did this.
"They’ve already had relations."
If Madam Huo felt faint before, this revelation made her want to collapse.
"Relations?"
Huo Xuan nodded, "I have decided to marry her."
"No, I don’t agree," Madam Huo interrupted Huo Xuan sternly.
She couldn’t bear the thought of her son marrying such a woman.
"I need to be responsible for her."
"We can make compensation," Madam Huo clenched her fingers, speaking emphatically, "I can compensate her financially, but you can’t marry her."
Cheng Zhiwei snorted, "Who cares."
She didn’t want Cheng Zhiyin to suffer in the Huo family.
Madam Huo clenched her teeth, "Let’s not talk about that now, Huo Xuan, let Yaya go."
"Impossible."
Zhou Lin sneered leisurely, "She’s suspected of attempted murder, she has to go."
"Zhou Lin, must you be so ruthless?" Madam Huo shouted.
"I’ve said it before, Madam Huo. If you can’t discipline your daughter, then I will," Zhou Lin didn’t care whether Madam Huo fainted or not, he made his stance clear.
"No way."
Madam Huo was stopped by Zhou Lin’s men, she was helpless, so she went to plead with Cheng Zhiyin.
How could Cheng Zhiyin agree? She turned and went upstairs.
The ambulance left.
Madam Huo’s heart was broken.
Huo Xuan said softly, "Mom..."
Madam Huo slapped Huo Xuan across the face, tears streaming, "Do you know, if it weren’t for her parents saving us back then, there wouldn’t be a Huo Xuan today. How could they rest easy with you treating Yaya like this?"
Huo Xuan’s gaze remained unchanged; over the years, he really had done his utmost for this nominal sister.
"I will marry Cheng Zhiyin. There’s nothing you can do to stop it," Huo Xuan made it clear.
Madam Huo could only weep.
Upstairs, Cheng Zhiyin leaned on Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder, feeling down, "Zhiwei, thanks for coming all this way."
"Don’t speak politely," Cheng Zhiwei sighed.
Cheng Zhiyin truly suffered in vain.
Huo Xuan, that bastard.
"Don’t tell mom about this," Cheng Zhiyin instructed, "I don’t want her to worry."
"I understand."
Cheng Zhiyin didn’t linger long before sending Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin away.
Then she curled up on the sofa alone, without turning on the lights.
The memories were still very vivid but brought no happiness.
Her phone screen flickered with the light, signaling an incoming call.
Cheng Zhiyin only watched silently, not knowing for how long, before she blocked Huo Xuan’s number.
What Cheng Zhiwei said was right, Huo Xuan could have gone to the hospital, but he didn’t. He came here instead.
No matter how you looked at it, he did it on purpose.
But as she had said herself, later it was really voluntary.
So she didn’t need whatever responsibility Huo Xuan was talking about.
