Chapter 456: Chapter 456: Yu Man Disappointed in Wen Yongning
But Wen Yongning still felt that he had done nothing wrong.
"Zhiwei," he frowned at Cheng Zhiwei’s furious face, "Your mom has been dead for over twenty years. So much time has passed, you should let it go."
Let it go?
And then accept him?
Cheng Zhiwei thought he was joking.
"I came here just to warn you, stay away from our family," Cheng Zhiwei said expressionlessly, "If I find out you’re getting close to them again, I’ll call the police."
"You..." Wen Yongning was angry and helpless.
He thought Cheng Zhiwei was simply stubborn.
Zhou Chenyan was dead, yet she still clung to the past.
Why couldn’t she understand?
"Zhiwei, don’t say such things. No matter what, we are still family. I won’t blame you for not accepting me for the moment, and as for that matter, it won’t happen again."
Wen Yongan tried to persuade her and gave his assurance.
"Uncle Wen is right. It’s been over twenty years since that incident; it’s time to let go. I think when Aunt Yu entrusted Zhiwei to the Cheng Family, she meant the same," Zhou Lin spoke lightly, but his words were particularly suffocating.
It meant that back then, Yu Man would rather leave her child with the Cheng Family than have her child involved with the Wen Family.
After all, when she passed on her last wishes, why didn’t she instruct Cheng Shang to help Cheng Zhiwei look for her family?
She didn’t want to.
Cheng Zhiwei closed her eyes and suppressed the sourness welling up in her eyes.
Only when one is utterly disappointed would they do such a thing.
Yu Man was disappointed in Wen Yongning.
As her daughter, how could she hope for such a father?
"Zhou Lin, don’t get involved," Wen Yongning said, somewhat displeased.
Cheng Zhiwei was already holding a grudge about the past, and Zhou Lin was adding fuel to the fire.
"They are my kids."
Zhou Lin’s tall stature was oppressive, and even though he had nothing now, his long tenure in a high position ingrained an imposing attitude in his very bones.
In simple words, he made his position clear.
Wen Yongning was in a bad mood, feeling humiliated by the younger generation, but he wasn’t angry.
He just found Cheng Zhiwei’s stubbornness headache-inducing.
Wen Yongan waved his hands and interrupted the pointless argument, "Let’s go have breakfast first. We can sit down and talk about everything. Zhiwei, don’t be too upset."
Cheng Zhiwei coldly turned her face away, having no appetite for breakfast.
"Wen Yongning, you’ve been abroad for a long time, better to visit less often. You’re not welcome here," Cheng Zhiwei dropped these words and turned to leave.
Wen Yongning’s face was pale.
Wen Yongan comforted him a few words, nothing more than urging him to be patient and give Cheng Zhiwei time to accept.
Wen Yongyuan smiled bitterly, "Big brother, I’m really in pain."
He had become disillusioned and went abroad upon hearing of Yu Man’s death, settling overseas for years.
He wanted to use time to dull the pain.
As time passed, he indeed gradually forgot those matters.
But now, the pain was unearthed again.
Wen Yongan had said all that could be said, and could only pat his shoulder, telling him to keep calm.
"Did you tell Ah Mi about your return?"
Wen Yongning nodded, "She knows. She’ll come over once her visa is sorted out in a few days."
Ah Mi was Wen Yongning’s wife from abroad.
"In this situation, it’s better not to come back," Wen Yongan advised.
Cheng Zhiwei was already unwilling to forgive Wen Yongning, and knowing that he had married abroad would likely make it even harder for her to accept.
Wen Yongning said, "She’s just coming to visit, she won’t meet Zhiwei."
Relieved, Wen Yongan nodded, "That’s good then."
In the car, Cheng Zhiwei asked Zhou Lin when he would move out and live elsewhere. Her tone was very light, her expression calm, yet it was especially repressed.
Zhou Lin looked ahead, tightening his grip on the steering wheel, "I’ve already said, I won’t leave."
Deadbeat, he intended to cling on.
Cheng Zhiwei was so angry she spoke thoughtlessly, "So next time, who are you planning to help with a paternity test?"
"You blame me for the paternity test, but think about it, Zhiwei. If I didn’t do it, he would have found someone else to help. Xingxing and Aunt Yu look so much alike, they would have found out sooner or later."
He felt wronged.
It was just that Wen Yongan had come to him and he simply lent a hand.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to talk anymore and turned to look out the window.
At the company, Cheng Zhiwei went straight to find Ding Kun but was stopped and taken to the meeting room.
In the quiet meeting room, there was only one person, standing before a huge floor-to-ceiling window, dressed in a suit.
From the back alone, Cheng Zhiwei recognized him.
It was Meng Qiancheng.
Meng Qiancheng had already turned around, a gentle smile on his lips, "Long time no see, Weiwei."
Cheng Zhiwei’s limbs were cold, and fear instantly crawled up her back.
She knew what happened in Yucheng, which made her even more fearful of the unfathomable Meng Qiancheng.
She frowned, attempting to leave.
Meng Qiancheng nailed her to the spot with one sentence, "Yucheng is where you should be, after all, your friends and family are there."
Cheng Zhiwei’s body stiffened, her hand clutching the doorknob tightly, and ultimately she didn’t open the door.
She slowly turned, her face already calm, "Do you need something from me?"
The smile on Meng Qiancheng’s lips suddenly widened, laughter bubbling up with delight, "I lied to you. I know you hate it when others use friends and family to threaten you. How could I possibly do such a thing?"
But Cheng Zhiwei knew he was capable of it.
She silently watched Meng Qiancheng.
Meng Qiancheng’s gaze shifted slightly, "I just came to see you, don’t be nervous."
Cheng Zhiwei had no intention of small talk, "I’m busy, I have to go."
"Weiwei, I have a contract here," Meng Qiancheng pulled out a folder, tapping the desk with his finger, "It’s for resources for you."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t even look, rejecting it outright.
"No need, I don’t need those."
"Is that so? I heard that Zhou Lin is being supported by you now." Meng Qiancheng deliberately belittled Zhou Lin, even though he had seen Zhou Lin’s capabilities that day at the beach.
But he was certain Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know about it.
Cheng Zhiwei remained silent.
"He once hurt you like that, and now he’s still bothering you. Shall I drive him away for you?" Meng Qiancheng approached Cheng Zhiwei, tempting in a soft voice.
Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fingers. Zhou Lin was unreliable, but Meng Qiancheng was listed in her blacklist.
There would never be any intersection.
"He is, after all, the father of my child," Cheng Zhiwei stated the fact, one word at a time.
It was an irrevocable truth.
The smile on Meng Qiancheng’s lips froze.
"Weiwei," he sighed with tender affection, "I know I was wrong about the past; can you forgive me once?"
"For what?" Zhou Lin pushed the door and came in, his face very ugly.
He hadn’t left when Bo Ye called him, informing him of Meng Qiancheng’s visit.
"Zhou Lin?" Meng Qiancheng’s tone livened up, as if facing a worthy opponent, with endless malice in his voice.
"Meng Qiancheng, aren’t you getting married? Why are you still after Zhiwei?"
