Chapter 388: Chapter 388: Not Allowed to Play with Him
Zhou Ruoki didn’t lift his head, but Cheng Zhiwei noticed his fingers curling inward.
He wasn’t entirely unresponsive.
Cheng Zhiwei felt a pang in her heart. She didn’t want Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing to interact much with him, but he was still her child.
She didn’t want to give up.
"Qiqi, did Yangyang just bump into you and hurt you?" Cheng Zhiwei asked softly. "Let me have a look, okay?"
As she spoke, she reached out to pull up Zhou Ruoki’s pant leg.
Zhou Ruoki immediately shifted away, still resisting her touch.
Cheng Zhiwei felt a slight sting in her heart but didn’t insist. She continued to speak to him gently, whether Zhou Ruoki responded or not, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t take it to heart.
Wang Mei came over and asked Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Ruoki to go eat breakfast.
Cheng Zhiwei peeled an egg for Zhou Ruoki, but he didn’t eat a bite from start to finish.
After Zhou Ruoki finished, he went upstairs.
Just as he reached the second floor, he was stopped by Zhou Lin, who asked expressionlessly, "Have you thought it through?"
Zhou Ruoki, head bowed and standing by the wall, remained silent.
Zhou Lin couldn’t stand seeing him like this and whispered sternly, "Stand properly."
Zhou Ruoki’s shoulders trembled, and he leaned against the wall, tears started dripping down again.
Zhou Lin rubbed his brow, feeling somewhat frustrated. It wasn’t that he found Zhou Ruoki annoying, but rather that he didn’t know how to comfort children.
Zhou Ruoki was just too sensitive.
He had no choice but to squat down and hold Zhou Ruoki in his arms, patiently explaining, "Qiqi, do you remember the paternity test I showed you last time? Zhiwei is your biological mother. You were taken away due to an accident years ago and later were bought by Seo Zhenzhen."
"She has always been worried about you and has been looking for you. Otherwise, when Seo Zhenzhen tried to pull you onto the road, she wouldn’t have risked getting hit by a car to save you."
Zhou Lin gently kissed his forehead. "Our Qiqi is so smart. How could you not understand this?"
Zhou Ruoki clenched his fingers, his childlike voice quivering, "Will they always stay here?"
"We’re a family, so naturally, we should live together," Zhou Lin said softly.
Zhou Ruoki bowed his head again and stopped talking.
Zhou Lin pinched his brow. He didn’t understand—Seo Zhenzhen wasn’t good to him, yet he felt a deep attachment to her.
Zhou Ruoki returned to his room and sat on the bed, thinking about the paternity test He Mingzhu had shown him, which clearly stated that he was that person’s son.
But his father said it wasn’t so. Was it really as Auntie He had said, that his father had forged those results to marry Cheng Zhiwei?
Moreover, he remembered Cheng Xing had once promised not to compete with him for their father’s attention.
Today Cheng Yang’s car had hit him, yet his father said it was nothing.
As he was feeling upset, someone knocked gently on his door, and he hid under the covers.
The door opened and Cheng Xing walked in.
She stood by the bed, her voice soft and sweet, "Qiqi, are you unhappy?"
Zhou Ruoki turned away, giving her the back of his head.
Cheng Xing then moved to the other side. "Qiqi, will you talk to me? If you keep ignoring me, I’ll get mad."
Zhou Ruoki bit his lip, mumbling grumpily, "I don’t want to talk."
He still couldn’t bear to see Cheng Xing upset.
She was his best friend.
Cheng Xing reached into the blanket to touch his little hand, then pulled the blanket down slightly and leaned in close, "Don’t be mad, we’ll be leaving soon."
She remembered her promise, having assured Zhou Ruoki that she wouldn’t compete for his dad.
"Are you leaving?" Zhou Ruoki stared blankly at Cheng Xing.
Cheng Xing moved her fingers, "Yes, mom said we have to leave here."
Zhou Ruoki immediately pursed his lips, and after a while, he asked, "Just the three of you?"
"Mhm," Cheng Xing nodded. "So don’t worry, we won’t take your dad away."
Zhou Ruoki’s long eyelashes covered his eyes as tears slowly began to emerge.
Cheng Xing froze, completely unaware of what had happened. "Qiqi, what’s wrong?"
At that moment, Cheng Yang rushed in and saw Zhou Ruoki crying. He immediately pulled Cheng Xing away, barking, "Why are you crying again? Xingxing didn’t bully you."
He dragged Cheng Xing out, saying as they left, "Mom said not to get too close to him. Don’t play with him anymore."
His voice wasn’t loud, but Zhou Ruoki heard every word.
Aunt Cheng, not letting Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing play with him?
Why?
Because he might really not be her child?
Zhou Ruoki’s face turned completely pale as various negative emotions overwhelmed him.
...
Two days later, after dinner, Zhou Lin cornered Cheng Zhiwei on the balcony and asked her calmly, "Have you decided?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s expression changed slightly. "What’s the rush?"
Zhou Lin watched her eyes under the night sky, his gaze intense and eager, but his tone was unhurried, "Three months isn’t long. I don’t want to waste any more time."
In any case, whether or not things changed after three months, he had to lock down the situation first.
He was eager, wanting to remarry her.
Cheng Zhiwei looked down, naturally understanding the fervor in Zhou Lin’s eyes, but she dared not.
She had already suffered a lot in their marriage, and she didn’t have the courage to go through it again.
Her heartbeat sped up due to irritation.
"Zhou Lin," she tried to steer the conversation gently. "Think of another way."
She knew he must have a way.
But, Zhou Lin harbored a determined mindset, and even if he had a way, he wouldn’t disclose it.
"There’s no other way," Zhou Lin reached out to hold her.
Cheng Zhiwei sidestepped to avoid him, avoiding his touch whenever she was awake, except for that morning when he had woken her with a kiss.
Zhou Lin casually withdrew his hand. "Zhiwei, it’s just three months. After all, you wouldn’t want my dad to forcefully take the kids away from you."
Her face turned instantly grim at his last words.
"Your dad wants me to leave, to have you marry He Mingzhu."
Going back to Zhou Lin now would be against Zhou Chenyuan’s wishes.
He wouldn’t be pleased.
"Leave the rest to me. All you need to do is agree," Zhou Lin stepped forward, pulling her into his arms as she had no room to retreat. "Trust me."
Cheng Zhiwei pressed her lips together, finally nodding. "Okay, I agree, but you have to sign a divorce agreement and let me keep it."
She didn’t believe he could keep his promise in three months, so she needed a guarantee.
Zhou Lin felt pain at her demands, knowing it was the consequence of his own actions. He could control the situation with the children to stop her from making such unrealistic demands.
But, he didn’t want to push their relationship back into the abyss.
