Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Qiqi, You Have Grown Up, You Can Always Do Something

He Mingzhu just happened to be around and volunteered to take Zhou Ruoki home. Considering that Zhou Chenyuan would be receiving treatment shortly and that He Mingzhu was Zhou Lin’s marriage alliance partner, soon to be family, Lin Yu entrusted Zhou Ruoki to her care.

But upon arrival, they unexpectedly encountered Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing.

He Mingzhu was thrilled. The last time Zhou Ruoki had heeded her advice to take Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing out, but had not brought them to the agreed-upon place, leading to a near capture by Zhou Lin’s people.

Subsequently noticing Zhou Ruoki’s somewhat softened attitude toward Cheng Zhiwei, He Mingzhu had been worried.

She hadn’t anticipated such an opportunity would now present itself.

He Mingzhu sighed and patted Zhou Ruoki’s shoulder, "Look, you didn’t remember what I told you last time. If you had hidden them just for a bit before, your dad wouldn’t have let the person who killed your mom be here."

Embracing Zhou Ruoki, her voice was heavy and beguiling, "Qiqi, you’re all grown up now. You always have to do something."

"But I..." Zhou Ruoki looked at Cheng Yang playing with his toy, and at Cheng Xing watching his favorite cartoon, unable to speak.

"There, there, you understand now, right? Don’t worry, auntie will help you. Now go in and be good friends with them."

He Mingzhu led Zhou Ruoki inside.

Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing abruptly noticed Zhou Ruoki. Cheng Xing slid off the couch and ran up to Zhou Ruoki, "Qiqi, you’re back."

He Mingzhu cracked a slight smile, "This is his home. Shouldn’t he be able to come back?"

Cheng Xing looked at He Mingzhu, confused, and stammered in explanation, "No, that’s not what I meant."

She didn’t mean that at all.

As He Mingzhu walked Zhou Ruoki inside, Cheng Yang didn’t notice and his toy car accidentally knocked into Zhou Ruoki’s leg.

Cheng Yang hurriedly apologized, "I’m sorry."

Zhou Ruoki, already feeling slighted, immediately had tears streaming from his eyes.

Cheng Yang was startled and scratched his head, apologizing earnestly, "Qiqi, I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean it."

He Mingzhu frowned, showing a hint of disgust, "The living room is so big, but you had to bring your car right to the door. Wasn’t that on purpose?"

Faced with such severe criticism, Cheng Yang stood there completely flustered.

At that moment, Wang Mei had heard the commotion and came out. She did not recognize He Mingzhu but knew Zhou Ruoki and quickly said, "Qiqi, you’re back."

She then turned to He Mingzhu, "And this young lady..."

He Mingzhu’s face regained its composed smile, introducing herself with ease, "I am He Mingzhu, President Zhou’s...business partner."

That smile was as if she had never spoken weirdly or harshly to the two children just before.

Wang Mei nodded hurriedly, "Miss He, please come in. The master is working in the study. I’ll call him right away."

Zhou Lin soon descended and, seeing the scene in the living room, slightly furrowed his brow, "What’s going on?"

As Cheng Yang was about to speak, He Mingzhu beat him to it, "Qiqi got hit by the remote-controlled car when he came in."

Cheng Yang pursed his lips and looked down, saying, "I’ve already apologized."

He knew he had done something wrong and was particularly well-behaved, not moving an inch.

He Mingzhu sighed, "Yes, you apologized. But that doesn’t mean the person who was hit has to accept your apology. Be more careful in the future."

Zhou Lin lifted Zhou Ruoki’s pant leg to inspect it and found no signs of injury.

The remote-controlled car wasn’t heavy, and no matter how fast it was, it couldn’t have gone that fast. And Zhou Ruoki was crying?

Zhou Lin thought to himself that perhaps he was being too sensitive.

So, he said indifferently, "It’s nothing. It’ll be fine in a bit."

Zhou Ruoki felt even greater upset within himself.

He Mingzhu stroked his hair and spoke softly, "I’ve brought Qiqi home now, so I’ll be going."

"Mm, thank you." Zhou Lin showed no particular expression. He Mingzhu was the marriage partner Zhou Chenyuan had chosen for him.

He had to maintain a distance.

He Mingzhu looked at him for a while and then laughed, "Ah Lin, although our families are planning a marriage alliance, it’s just an intention at the moment. You don’t need to be so serious."

"Besides, aside from the marriage alliance, we’re still business partners. Are you going to keep being so cold to me?" He Mingzhu was beautiful and forthright, making her words seem to accuse him of being narrow-minded.

Unfortunately, such rhetoric was ineffective on Zhou Lin.

He instructed Wang Mei to see He Mingzhu out.

He Mingzhu waved goodbye, "Alright then, see you later."

Outside, He Mingzhu put on a helpless demeanor and asked Wang Mei, "Are you a veteran here?"

Wang Mei nodded politely, "Yes, Miss He."

He Mingzhu immediately spoke in a low voice, "That’s good then. I see Qiqi has been in a bad mood, so please take care of him."

It was all out of concern for Zhou Ruoki.

Wang Mei promptly assured her, "Don’t worry, Miss He, I’ll take good care of Young Master Qiqi."

He Mingzhu finally left at ease.

In the living room.

Zhou Ruoki sat on one side of the couch, while Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing sat on the other, seeming suddenly like strangers to one another, although they usually got along well.

Zhou Lin watched this and didn’t think much of it; that’s just how kids are, he thought. They’ll warm up to each other soon enough.

He turned and went upstairs.

Cheng Zhiwei was awakened by a kiss that grew increasingly invasive and made breathing more and more difficult.

She had no choice but to open her eyes, her cheeks flushing with anger, "Zhou Lin, what are you doing?"

Zhou Lin, repressing the agitation in his blood, pulled her up and said without a change of expression, "Qiqi’s back, downstairs."

Cheng Zhiwei’s mind cleared instantly, no longer blaming Zhou Lin for taking advantage of her while she slept as she hurried to wash up, change her clothes, and head downstairs.

All the while, she did not cast another look at Zhou Lin.

Zhou Lin touched his nose, his fingers lingering finally on the corner of his lips.

Though ignored, it seemed quite nice.

Cheng Zhiwei rushed to the last step of the staircase, then slowed her pace, took a deep breath to suppress all emotion, and then walked over slowly.

"Mommy." Cheng Yang jumped off the couch and plunged into Cheng Zhiwei’s arms.

"What’s wrong?" Cheng Zhiwei hugged him soothingly, "Who bullied our Yangyang?"

Cheng Yang glanced at Zhou Ruoki, his lips turning down in hurt, "I accidentally bumped into Zhou Ruoki with my remote-controlled car. I apologized, but he..."

Cheng Yang couldn’t quite place the feeling but felt wronged.

Especially seeing Zhou Ruoki sitting motionless, he felt even more wronged.

It was as if he had seriously bullied him.

But he really hadn’t done it on purpose.

Cheng Zhiwei looked at Zhou Ruoki, her feelings toward this child complex. She had initially been single-minded in wanting to find him, yet due to a series of unfortunate events, he now refused to forgive her.

And now, she harbored a new grudge in her heart.

Cheng Zhiwei sighed internally, rubbed Cheng Yang’s hair, and walked toward Zhou Ruoki, sitting beside him and softly calling out to him, "Qiqi."
