Chapter 355 Cheng Zhiwei, You Can’t Be So Heartless
Chapter 355: Chapter 355 Cheng Zhiwei, You Can’t Be So Heartless
Cheng Zhiwei turned to look at the photograph of Seo Zhenzhen on the tombstone, feeling the irony was incomparable.
She was dead, yet her life was still disturbed by her.
Especially Cheng Shang.
The favoritism he had shown towards Seo Zhenzhen suddenly made sense.
The rain was too cold, freezing the children until they shivered uncontrollably, but Cheng Shang blocked the children, not letting her leave.
Cheng Zhiwei, determined, walked straight to the front of Seo Zhenzhen’s tombstone and tore her photograph.
Cheng Shang stiffly watched, then his entire face began to shake violently with rage, and the next second, his hand struck Cheng Zhiwei’s face.
"Slap."
The sound crisply cut through the rainy night.
Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing immediately ran up to hug Cheng Zhiwei, "Mom."
"Mom, does it hurt?"
It hurt, of course, but that was nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
Cheng Zhiwei hugged her two children tight, unsure whether it was rain or tears on her face, "If you acknowledge her as your daughter, then we are severing our father-daughter relationship."
"She was my daughter," Cheng Shang said, bursting into laughter that was full of pain, "I should have never agreed to her, I shouldn’t have brought you back."
A thunderclap burst forth from the clouds, splitting the rainy night in two.
Cheng Zhiwei’s voice was so light, as if a gust of wind could disperse it, "Who was brought back?"
Cheng Shang knelt before the tombstone, his body hunched, looking both pitiful and pathetic.
"Tell me, who was it that was brought here?" Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know where she gathered the strength from, pulling Cheng Shang to his feet, her voice trembling.
She had actually guessed the truth, but she dared not believe it.
How could it be this way.
That was the home where she grew up.
Cheng Shang started laughing wildly, hugging the tombstone; laughing and then crying, "It’s all my fault, if I hadn’t selfishly agreed to her back then, I wouldn’t have lost Zhenzhen."
Struck by a lightning bolt, Cheng Zhiwei collapsed to the ground, staring blankly at Cheng Shang, completely dazed.
Cheng Shang continued, "It was just a matter of having your two kids kowtow to her. What’s the big deal? She’s already dead and can’t affect you anymore."
Cheng Zhiwei slowly came back to her senses. She didn’t say another word but got up and pulled the two children away.
"Cheng Zhiwei, you can’t be so heartless," Cheng Shang shouted from behind, his voice torn apart in the drizzle.
Cheng Zhiwei stopped walking and, without turning back, asked, "Does mom know about this?"
Cheng Shang was at a loss for words for a long time before finally saying, "She doesn’t know."
Cheng Zhiwei left. She no longer needed anything except a paternity test.
Once in the car, Cheng Zhiwei calmed down for ten seconds, turned on the heater, and then took a towel from the trunk for Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing to dry their hair.
She drove home.
Although the situation was infuriating, she was now exceptionally calm. She made a call to arrange for a paternity test and asked about the children’s condition with concern.
"Mom, what’s wrong with grandpa?" Cheng Yang, hugging his sister, was very downcast.
Since his return, grandpa had always been fond of him. How could he have suddenly turned so terrifying.
"It’s nothing. Mom is going to take you guys away," Cheng Zhiwei said as she reached home. In the midst of Guo Cuihua asking what happened, she first took the two children to bathe.
After making them take cold medicine, she tucked them into bed.
Only after they were asleep did she leave.
Guo Cuihua, holding a cellphone, still stood at the door, "Zhiwei, what happened? You’ve come back with the children, where is Old Cheng?"
Cheng Zhiwei had wanted to speak, but upon seeing Guo Cuihua’s expression, she swallowed the words that had reached her lips.
She didn’t know if Guo Cuihua was aware or not, but she also knew that now was not the time to talk about it.
Wait for the paternity test.
"I want to take them out to live elsewhere," Cheng Zhiwei managed to say.
She knew that Guo Cuihua must have sensed that something was wrong, but since she didn’t know, Cheng Zhiwei did not want to elaborate.
"Why suddenly move out? What did Old Cheng do?" Guo Cuihua asked anxiously. She tried calling Cheng Shang but couldn’t get through, feeling completely at a loss.
"Mom." Cheng Zhiwei’s call of "Mom" was extremely difficult to utter, as she truly didn’t know how much of their mother-daughter affection would remain in the future.
"Mom, I know you’re worried, but don’t overthink it. It’s also quite tiring for you to always look after the children. I’m thinking of moving out, hiring a nanny to take care of them, so that you and he can travel and enjoy your retirement," she said.
Cheng Zhiwei said this even as her eyes reddened.
She really didn’t know how she would view such a relationship once the paternity test results came out.
By then, Guo Cuihua probably wouldn’t acknowledge her as her daughter any longer.
Fighting back the urge to cry, Cheng Zhiwei gave Guo Cuihua a hug and then went to pack her things.
Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing had been living here for several months already, and everyone had been very kind to the two children, which is why they had so many belongings.
Cheng Zhiwei sorted through them one by one and it was only in the wee hours of the night that she finally came to a stop.
As for Cheng Zhiyin’s calls and messages, she ignored them all.
She contacted Xu Tian, moved all her belongings to her place, dropped the children off at kindergarten, and then found a new apartment as quickly as possible.
It was about a half-hour’s distance from here, neither far nor near.
Xu Tian knew that she had moved out and came over to help.
"Why suddenly decide to live here?" Xu Tian asked while organizing things. "Didn’t you say it was good for Yangyang and Xingxing to have enlightenment from your parents?"
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know what to say, so she repeated the same excuse she had told Guo Cuihua.
Xu Tian did not believe it, but seeing that Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to talk further, she didn’t press the matter and just quietly helped out.
By the time the children were done with school, the apartment was pretty much in order.
Both children were in a bad mood. They had been caught in the rain yesterday and had a scare, and both showed signs of a cold. Cheng Yang was okay, but Cheng Xing had a slight fever.
"Should we go to the hospital?" Xu Tian asked.
"Not for now," Cheng Zhiwei said, touching Cheng Xing’s forehead and holding her in her arms.
Xu Tian, because of her recent dispute with the He family, didn’t have to go to work or visit the He family anymore, so she simply stayed here to help take care of Cheng Yang.
When Zhou Lin arrived, she was the one who opened the door, and her frown deepened as she was about to close it.
Zhou Lin, noticing her intention in advance, blocked the door.
The door didn’t close.
"What are you doing here?" Xu Tian asked, none too kindly.
Zhou Lin looked at her expressionlessly, pushed the door open, walked in, and scanned the freshly tidied house before finally turning his gaze to Cheng Zhiwei sitting on the sofa.
His tone indifferent, he asked, "Why suddenly move out to live here?"
Cheng Zhiwei lowered her gaze, speaking softly, "I wanted to move out."
Those matters, no one needed to know.
Zhou Lin caught the chill in her voice and glanced at Cheng Xing in her arms, "What’s wrong with Xingxing?"
"Sister has a fever," Cheng Yang ran over, patting Cheng Xing’s forehead with his little chubby hand, "Sister, get well quickly."
"Go to the hospital," Zhou Lin said, reaching out to carry Cheng Xing.
Cheng Zhiwei avoided him.
