The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 348: Call He Lanzhi Over

Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Call He Lanzhi Over

Cheng Zhiwei wanted to know the reason; she bluntly wanted the truth.

However, Cheng Shang didn’t answer her question and instead went to see Seo Zhenzhen.

Half an hour later, Cheng Shang came out with an even uglier look on his face, the wrinkles seemingly spreading across his visage all at once, aging him considerably.

He had lost his previously aggressive demeanor and was preparing to leave directly.

Cheng Zhiwei stopped him.

With eyes faintly burning with a fiery light, she disregarded all else and asked again, "Dad, you haven’t answered my question yet, what exactly is your relationship with Seo Zhenzhen?"

She had asked before, but Cheng Shang had not answered.

She had even suspected that Seo Zhenzhen was Cheng Shang’s illegitimate daughter, but Cheng Zhiyin’s words had dispelled her doubts.

If she couldn’t guess, then she’d ask directly.

Cheng Shang let out a tired sigh, "She’s already dead, Zhiwei, the dead should be respected. Let’s not ask anymore."

As he said this, he turned to look at Zhou Lin, "Ah Lin, I’ll take care of Seo Zhenzhen’s affairs."

Zhou Lin did not agree, his tone indifferent, "The driver responsible for the accident hasn’t been caught yet, so for now, she needs to stay at the hospital. As for her funeral arrangements, we will discuss that when the time comes."

Zhou Lin gave a vague answer; he didn’t say he wouldn’t arrange for Seo Zhenzhen’s funeral, but he didn’t explicitly agree to take care of it either.

In Cheng Shang’s ears, this meant Zhou Lin wasn’t planning to take care of it.

His expression darkened immediately, his gaze sharp and serious, "Zhou Lin, she was, after all, Zhou Ruoki’s mother. No matter what, she deserves some dignity in death."

He was angry.

Cheng Zhiwei sneered, her anger revitalizing her, "You’re unrelated to her, what right do you have to arrange her funeral?"

"Cheng Zhiwei," Cheng Shang’s tone grew stern, "she’s already dead."

"She’s dead, but does that mean the harm she did to me just vanishes into thin air?" Cheng Zhiwei pressed vehemently, "Or is she your daughter too?"

"You..." Cheng Shang raised his hand.

Zhou Lin immediately stepped in front of Cheng Zhiwei, his expression not looking good, "Uncle."

Cheng Shang’s look was complex, "Seo Zhenzhen... she was my friend’s daughter. That friend of mine had bad luck with people and died young. On her deathbed, she entrusted me as a favor to secure Seo Zhenzhen’s hukou as orphaned, and she approached me, asking for my sponsorship."

"But by the time I received the message and went to find her, she had already disappeared, and it took me several years until I found her in another welfare home."

Cheng Shang was reluctant to speak because he didn’t want too many people to know about Seo Zhenzhen’s background.

He hoped to fulfill his friend’s last wish and keep that person from finding Seo Zhenzhen.

But now, Seo Zhenzhen was dead.

It was something he had never anticipated.

"The daughter of a friend, or perhaps a first love?" Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t buying the end-of-life entrusted story.

"Enough," Cheng Shang’s repressed emotions suddenly exploded, his complexion turning red and his agitation visibly intense, "Cheng Zhiwei, I raised you all these years, is it for you to make such baseless accusations?"

Cheng Zhiwei wanted to speak again but was pulled back by He Ye.

He Ye addressed Cheng Shang, "Uncle, you should go back first. I will keep an eye on things here. If anything happens, I will inform you immediately."

Cheng Shang clearly didn’t want to stay longer. With He Ye’s words, he nodded and quickly left.

It wasn’t until he entered the elevator that his taut back immediately slumped, tears perilously hanging at the corners of his eyes but forced back at the last moment.

The elevator "dinged" crisply.

Cold and impersonal.

Cheng Shang came back to his senses all at once. He stepped out, but his mind was so unsettled that he stumbled, nearly falling over.

A kind person gave him a hand, seeing his face so pale it was frightening, and asked with concern, "Sir, are you alright?"

"I’m fine, thank you."

Cheng Shang whispered his thanks, pushed the man aside, and hastened away.

The kind-hearted person scratched his head and said to his companion, "He looks troubled. Could it be that something has happened to his family?"

...

Upstairs, Cheng Zhiwei’s gaze fell upon Zhou Ruoki, and her heart twisted in pain at the sight of the child.

"Zhou Lin, I want to do a paternity test with Zhou Ruoki," she said slowly.

Only a paternity test could prove everything.

Even if it was of no help to the current situation, she still wanted to seek a result.

"All right, I’ll arrange it," Zhou Lin replied quietly, also looking at Zhou Ruoki.

After a moment, he turned back to Cheng Zhiwei, his voice gentle, "You go back first, it’s fine with just me here for Qiqi."

Cheng Zhiwei shook her head, "No."

She wanted to stay here with him.

"Listen to me, go back first. I’ll talk to him, and tomorrow, tomorrow I’ll have someone come pick you up," Zhou Lin coaxed patiently and gently.

He Ye also said, "Yes, Zhiwei, if you’re here, Zhou Ruoki will only resist more. Let him calm down."

Cheng Zhiwei could only leave reluctantly.

Zhou Lin went over and picked up Zhou Ruoki. Zhou Ruoki was no longer crying or making a fuss, but his dull gaze was more unsettling than any tantrum.

He held Zhou Ruoki like that and returned to Sparkling Sky City.

Zhou Ruoki had been frightened enough for one night and fell asleep upon arriving home.

He slept restlessly, so Zhou Lin held him the entire time.

When Secretary Zhang arrived, Zhou Lin was still in the same posture.

"The car plunged into the river after hitting Seo Zhenzhen, and the driver is dead," Secretary Zhang reported in a low voice, "The police’s preliminary investigation suggests that the driver was a failed investor who rammed Seo Zhenzhen in an act of revenge against society."

This reason sounded plausible.

After all, with the current social mood being so restless, acts of revenge against society were not unusual.

But, there was still a hint of something off.

"Also, we followed the lead of Seo Zhenzhen, and sure enough, we discovered that she bought the young master from human traffickers..." Secretary Zhang felt a twinge of empathy.

They had found nothing when they investigated the doctors at that hospital, but now by retracing from Seo Zhenzhen, they quickly found clues.

Everything became clear and evident.

"Call He Lanzhi here," Zhou Lin ordered, his voice icy, eyes filled with fierce animosity.

He needed to demand the truth from He Lanzhi about what happened back then.

He Lanzhi arrived quickly, still in a wheelchair. When he entered and saw Zhou Lin holding Zhou Ruoki, a hint of contempt curled at the corners of his mouth.

Yet his tone was as normal as could be, "Ah Lin, you wanted to see me?"

Zhou Lin put down his cellphone and methodically said, "He Lanzhi, you remember the time you made Uncle He so angry that he was hospitalized, and you went to the bar to drown your sorrows, right?"

He Lanzhi’s expression became somewhat unnatural, "What about it?"

"That night, did I really have relations with Seo Zhenzhen?"

Zhou Lin’s voice was calm, but the hostility in his brows loomed like a net, tightening layer by layer around He Lanzhi.

A tremendous pressure bore down.

He Lanzhi’s hands tightened on the wheelchair, and he lowered his eyes, not daring to meet Zhou Lin’s gaze.

Without further questioning, Zhou Lin already understood everything.

"Is this what you call brotherhood?"
