Chapter 338: Chapter 338: Don’t Dwell on Meaningless Things
Zhang Xiaoman had been waiting at the door for Cheng Zhiwei and immediately whispered anxiously upon seeing her, "He refuses to come out."
"I know." Cheng Zhiwei patted her arm, "I’ll go see him."
Originally, Zhou Lin didn’t allow anyone to come to Sparkling Sky City, but after Cheng Zhiwei returned, he had Zhou Ruoki come over to live here.
In the upstairs room, there were the rooms Cheng Zhiwei had prepared for the two children three years ago. Zhou Lin had kept them and also prepared a new room next to them for Zhou Ruoki.
Zhou Ruoki was currently holding a card, which Lin Yu had specially made for him, containing all his New Year’s money and red packets.
His small hand grasped the card, his eyes still red.
He knew it was this card that Seo Zhenzhen wanted.
"Qiqi?" The sound of knocking came, as well as a familiar tender voice.
It was Aunt Cheng.
Zhou Ruoki quickly hid the card but didn’t go to open the door right away.
He curled up, hiding himself under the blanket.
When he was unhappy, he would do this, not liking to be disturbed by anyone.
The knocking soon stopped.
Zhou Ruoki showed his head, his dark eyes looking toward the direction of the door.
Had Aunt Cheng left?
A small sense of loss flickered in his heart. It was normal for Aunt Cheng to leave if he didn’t open the door, but he still felt sad inside.
However, a few minutes later, the lock turned, and the door swung open all at once.
Zhou Ruoki instantly hid under the blanket again.
He heard the soft footsteps approaching, someone pulled the blanket down a bit, and then touched his hair.
Gently calling his name, "Qiqi?"
Zhou Ruoki blinked, tears falling down.
He didn’t want to cry, but every time he encountered Aunt Cheng, he felt inexplicably wronged.
"What’s wrong with Qiqi today?" Cheng Zhiwei sat on the edge of the bed. She didn’t immediately pull the blanket off Zhou Ruoki, just patiently extended a hand, lightly patting the blanket.
"Does the wound still hurt?" Cheng Zhiwei spoke in a soft, slow voice, talking to Zhou Ruoki about some interesting things from the kindergarten that Cheng Xing had told her.
Zhou Ruoki slowly showed his head, his eyes red as he looked at Cheng Zhiwei.
Cheng Zhiwei’s heart tightened, a surge of pity rising.
She took out a chocolate, placing it in front of Zhou Ruoki, "Look, this is the chocolate Xingxing asked me to bring to you."
At the mention of Cheng Xing, Zhou Ruoki’s expression finally changed a bit.
He asked in a low voice, "I ignored her today, she must be angry, right?"
His voice still carried a crying tone, having apparently hidden away and cried for a long time upon returning.
Poor thing.
"She’s not angry, she just doesn’t know what’s going on with you, and she’s very worried about you. That’s why she asked me to come see you," Cheng Zhiwei smiled as she looked at him, "Qiqi, you don’t want Xingxing to worry, right?"
Zhou Ruoki clasped the two pieces of chocolate in his palm. He wanted to speak, but thinking of the poor relations between Aunt Cheng and his mother, he dared not say it.
His mother had finally come out, and he couldn’t let her be taken away again.
Moreover, if Aunt Cheng went looking for his mother, Aunt Cheng would be in danger too.
He kept his head down, refusing to speak.
Cheng Zhiwei embraced him in her arms, not pressing him, only gently and methodically coaxing him, "Qiqi doesn’t have to talk if he doesn’t want to. Auntie won’t force you, but if Qiqi is willing to talk, Auntie is willing to listen."
Zhou Ruoki nestled cautiously in her embrace, longing for the gentle warmth she offered.
"Aunt Cheng."
"Hmm? What is it?"
Zhou Ruoki pursed her lips, but still didn’t say anything.
Cheng Zhiwei stayed with Zhou Ruoki for nearly two hours before he was willing to go downstairs for dinner.
Zhang Xiaoman breathed a sigh of relief and said happily, "Qiqi is really good."
She reached out to touch Zhou Ruoki’s hair.
Zhou Ruoki moved closer to Cheng Zhiwei to avoid her, as he didn’t really like other people getting too close.
Zhang Xiaoman was startled for a moment, then smiled and said, "Qiqi, how about I make you some mini wontons?"
Zhou Ruoki nodded and sat obediently.
Zhang Xiaoman turned to Cheng Zhiwei, "Sister Zhiwei, would you like some?"
Cheng Zhiwei declined.
"The mini wontons were made by my mom and I brought them over," Zhang Xiaoman said as she served the cooked mini wontons in front of Zhou Ruoki. "Qiqi likes them very much."
Upon smelling the familiar scent, Cheng Zhiwei knew that the mini wontons were made by Wang Mei. Only she had the skill to make them look so pretty, and with thin wrappers stuffed generously.
She used to love eating the mini wontons as well.
Wang Mei would make a lot and save them for her breakfast and late-night snacks.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t expect Zhou Ruoki to like them as well.
Zhou Ruoki finished a bowl of mini wontons and his mood finally lifted, Cheng Zhiwei took him to wash up and put him to bed. Once Zhou Ruoki fell asleep, she massaged her own shoulders.
Maintaining the same position, she felt a bit uncomfortable.
Suddenly, a pair of hands rested on her shoulders, gently kneading them.
Cheng Zhiwei got a fright, stood up abruptly, and saw Zhou Lin, who had arrived at some unknown time.
She frowned and stepped back two steps, "You’re back?"
She was like a startled rabbit, with a strong reaction.
Zhou Lin calmly touched Zhou Ruoki’s forehead and asked in a low voice, "What’s wrong with Qiqi?"
Cheng Zhiwei felt that perhaps she had overreacted, steadied her mind, and shook her head, "He won’t say, but I think you should ask his kindergarten to see if he’s being bullied."
Zhou Lin responded calmly, edging closer to Cheng Zhiwei, "You’ve worked hard. How about I take you out for some late-night food?"
"No thanks, you’re back now, so I’ll be on my way," Cheng Zhiwei said as she walked towards the door.
"Shall I drive you?"
"I came in my car."
"Zhiwei."
Cheng Zhiwei stopped abruptly, turned around with an emotionless face, and looked at Zhou Lin, "Zhou Lin, if you have too much free time, you should pay more attention to Zhou Ruoki instead of dwelling on meaningless things."
"I just..."
"Just what? He’s your son. If you can’t take care of him, arrange for more people. Not that when something happens to him, you don’t know, and others are troubled instead."
After speaking her mind, Cheng Zhiwei left. It wasn’t that she resented Zhou Ruoki, she just felt that Zhou Lin’s care and concern for Zhou Ruoki was insufficient.
And she had said these things many times before, but Zhou Lin remained indifferent.
Even if Zhou Lin no longer liked Seo Zhenzhen, Zhou Ruoki was innocent. How could he misdirect his anger and neglect the child?
Just as she reached the door, Cheng Zhiwei bumped into Zhang Xiaoman.
Zhang Xiaoman’s eyes were somewhat red as she apologized with her head lowered, "Sister Zhiwei, I’m sorry. It’s my fault for not having the skills to take proper care of Qiqi."
"It’s not your fault," Cheng Zhiwei explained. She had only been making suggestions in the room and did not mean to criticize Zhang Xiaoman.
After all, Zhou Ruoki was Zhou Lin’s son; how could only an inexperienced Zhang Xiaoman be enough to take care of him? If Zhou Lin cared about his child, he should have arranged for more people.
Cheng Zhiwei turned to look at her, her tone somewhat stern, "Xiaoman, caring for a child isn’t just about playing with him. You need to understand him, get close to him, and communicate heart-to-heart with him. That’s the way Qiqi is."
"If you only treat him as a child, then you’ll always be just the caretaker and the one being cared for."
