Chapter 337: Chapter 337: Just Fulfill Your Responsibilities as a Father

"What’s wrong?" Cheng Xing moved closer to Zhou Ruoki and saw the tear stains on his face. Ordinarily unflappable, a look of worry now crossed her little face.

"Qiqi?" she asked softly, "Who bullied you?"

Cheng Yang also came over, wiped Zhou Ruoki’s face with his finger, and patted his shoulder forcefully, "Who bullied you, tell me, and I’ll protect you."

Cheng Xing saw the band-aid on his hand, and her eyebrows furrowed, "What exactly happened to you?"

Zhou Ruoki buried his head in his arm, not knowing how to start. His mother disliked Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing, and he didn’t want to get them involved.

So he couldn’t say anything.

Unable to get an answer from Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing, Cheng Xing had no choice but to go and find a teacher.

The teacher spoke gently, "Qiqi just fell down. I’ve already taken him for a check. His palm is scraped, but it’s nothing serious."

Just fell down?

Cheng Xing thought, if it were just a fall, Zhou Ruoki wouldn’t react like this.

His mood was so despondent and sad.

"Where did he fall? Can I go see?" Cheng Xing looked up at the teacher, her innocent expression prompting an immediate yes from the teacher.

Cheng Xing obediently let the teacher lead her to that secluded corner.

"This is the place," the teacher said in a low voice and then crouched down to gently comfort Cheng Xing, "When I found him, he had fallen right here."

Such a secluded corner didn’t seem like a place Zhou Ruoki would go to.

Cheng Xing felt something was off, but being young, she couldn’t figure out exactly what it was. She looked toward the small house where cleaning tools were stored and wanted to walk over.

The teacher quickly pulled her back and picked her up, "Xingxing, you can’t go there. It’s almost time for school to end. Let’s go back; otherwise, grandma will start to worry."

Hearing about the end of school, Cheng Xing’s attention immediately shifted, and she let the teacher carry her back obediently.

In that shadow-covered small house, Seo Zhenzhen stood behind the window, her eyes emitting a cold and sinister light.

If possible, she wished she could go out and strangle that child right now.

Unfortunately, she hadn’t come alone.

She had just overheard something: Zhou Ruoki and Cheng Zhiwei had a very close relationship with that despicable little brat?

She had previously wanted Zhou Ruoki to spend more time with those two wretches. Now, that would save her a lot of time.

Zhou Ruoki’s efforts to ingratiate himself with Cheng Zhiwei and those two kids had been quite effective.

The shadows enveloped her, almost becoming one with her.

Even until he went home after school, Zhou Ruoki’s demeanor remained unhappy; Cheng Xing had to speak to him several times before he slowly looked up at her.

He was clearly not in a good state.

"Qiqi, do you want to come play at my house?" Cheng Xing invited him.

Zhou Ruoki shook his head and got into the car that had come to pick him up.

Cheng Yang scratched his head, speaking in his straightforward manner, "It’s just a fall, isn’t it? Why is he still unhappy?"

He didn’t understand.

He Yuming crept up to Cheng Xing, tugged at her clothes, and with a wrinkled nose said, "Zhou Ruoki is probably spoiled too much. Let’s not bother with him, let’s go home."

Cheng Yang cheered and ran forward, "Time to go home."

Cheng Xing watched the car that had disappeared into the distance, still feeling uneasy.

So when Cheng Zhiwei came back, she told her about it, "Mom, I’m sure he was bullied by someone bad."

"Okay, I’ll speak to his dad," Cheng Zhiwei stroked Cheng Xing’s hair, "Don’t worry."

She called Zhou Lin.

Zhou Lin was in a meeting. Seeing her call, he immediately signaled for a pause and picked it up, "What’s the matter, Zhiwei?"

His voice echoed in the space. Cheng Zhiwei hesitated for a moment before saying, "Are you in a meeting?"

Zhou Lin glanced at the executives below, who didn’t dare to make a sound, and said nonchalantly, "No, go ahead."

"If you have time, come home and see Qiqi. He fell at school today, scraped his hand, but Xingxing said he might have been bullied. He’s been unhappy all afternoon."

Zhou Lin checked the time on his wristwatch, his thoughts slightly stirred, "I have a meeting later, and I don’t know when I’ll get back. Can you help me and go see him?"

The executives exchanged glances cautiously. Normally, the meeting should be over in half an hour, and then everyone would go back to their own homes.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t expect Zhou Lin to pass the matter to her and said irritably, "He’s your son, not mine. Take some responsibility as a father."

Zhou Lin twirled the pen in his hand and said indifferently, "I really can’t get away."

Cheng Zhiwei: "..."

Zhou Lin sighed helplessly, "If you can’t make it, it’s fine. Qiqi is used to being alone, and it’s not a big deal, I’ll ask him when I’m free."

Free later to ask?

Was he overestimating his child’s psychological resilience?

Cheng Zhiwei still softened her heart, though her tone wasn’t great, "Have the driver send him over."

She would definitely not go to Sparkling Sky City.

"Okay, I appreciate it, Zhiwei," Zhou Lin’s voice was deep, with a hint of smile.

Cheng Zhiwei hung up the phone directly and then called the homeroom teacher to inquire about Zhou Ruoki’s condition. The answer she got was still that Zhou Ruoki had fallen.

The teacher expressed apologies, and Cheng Zhiwei quickly said it was fine; she was just asking.

After communicating with the teacher, Cheng Zhiwei thought maybe Cheng Xing was too sensitive. Zhou Ruoki was younger than Cheng Xing, it was normal for him to be scared and cry after falling.

About five minutes later, Zhou Lin called, "The driver says he’s hiding in his room and won’t come out. I can’t leave here..."

Cheng Zhiwei really wanted to get angry, "Zhou Lin, he’s still a child."

"I know. I’ll come back as soon as I can," Zhou Lin explained.

He said that, but Cheng Zhiwei could tell he was just brushing her off.

Then she heard Secretary Zhang urging him.

Her heart was practically ablaze. She wanted to tell him coldly that she wouldn’t go.

But the image of Zhou Ruoki’s tear-stained face appeared in her mind, tugging at her heartstrings.

Cheng Zhiwei compromised, "Okay, I’ll go now."

"Thanks. He’s at Sparkling Sky City. Call me if you need anything," Zhou Lin finally showed some genuine concern before hanging up.

Cheng Zhiwei rubbed her temples and resignedly went to change her clothes. She had thought about taking Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing with her, but considering it was already after six in the evening, and the round trip would take time, not to mention not knowing how long she would need to stay there.

She dropped the idea.

After patiently explaining to Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing, Cheng Yang pattered, "Go ahead, Mom. I’ll take care of my little sister at home."

Cheng Xing handed over two chocolate bars, telling Cheng Zhiwei to give them to Zhou Ruoki, "He’ll be happier if he eats these."

Cheng Zhiwei kissed her forehead, "Mom will definitely bring Xingxing’s chocolate."

Thirty minutes later, she arrived at Sparkling Sky City.

The vast villa was brightly lit, but it felt almost devoid of life.
