Chapter 321: Chapter 321: We Must Find Him
Cheng Zhiwei raised her hand and splashed a whole cup of water on Zhou Lin’s face.
Fortunately, the water was only warm, but it was enough to startle Secretary Zhang, who had just come in.
"President Zhou,"
Zhou Lin closed his eyes, and when he opened them, his eyes were as dark as ink.
"Pour another cup of water," Zhou Lin ordered, his voice icy.
Secretary Zhang brought in some hot water again and also brought some tissues for Zhou Lin.
Zhou Lin methodically wiped his face and nodded his chin, "I said, finish the hot water, and then I will let them in."
In Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes, that was unbearably cold.
Cheng Zhiwei’s fingers clenched white, hatred clearly evident on her face, "Zhou Lin, what right do you have to not let them in? That is my child."
With the last word spoken, her taut nerves snapped.
Tears fell heavily.
She truly could not imagine that she still had a child, and that child was now missing, unaware of the hardships they were facing.
Zhou Lin’s throat choked up, his face expressionless, only his palms pressed on the table revealing how he was suppressing his emotions.
"Does crying here help anything? Drink the water, and we will discuss how to get the child back," he said, maintaining his composure.
Little did he know, Cheng Zhiwei’s tears all burned for him; he wanted to embrace her, kiss her, and tell her it was okay, he would definitely find that child.
But he couldn’t.
Cheng Zhiwei, with trembling hands, picked up the cup and drank sip by sip. She slammed the cup down on the table and glared at Zhou Lin, her eyes reddened with deep hatred.
"Satisfied?"
Zhou Lin instructed Secretary Zhang, "Let them in."
The police came in quickly, and Zhou Lin had already sat down next to Cheng Zhiwei.
"Miss Cheng, Mr. Zhou, according to our latest investigation results, there are a few questions we’d like to ask Miss Cheng," the police said, pausing with a sympathetic look, "Miss Cheng didn’t know she was carrying triplets?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s face turned pale, and tears fell again.
She was in too much pain, her voice trembling terribly, unable to speak.
Zhou Lin indifferently said, "Because we had an argument at the time, she only had one prenatal check-up, and at that time, the results showed twins. After that... she never had any more check-ups."
"That explains it," the police handed a file to Zhou Lin, "According to our investigation, their targets mainly include pregnant women who did not undergo prenatal check-ups, and since Miss Cheng was carrying triplets, it was easy for them to hide one child."
"Where is the child?" Cheng Zhiwei choked out, only wanting to know where he was now.
She wanted to bring him home.
"We haven’t found him yet."
Not found...
Those three words were too heavy, pressing on Cheng Zhiwei’s heart, making it hard for her to breathe.
"After the child traffickers took the child away, he was quickly sold off, and currently, we haven’t caught anyone," the police explained.
Because the entire obstetrics and gynecology department’s liaisons were not with one organization or person, but they would connect with anyone in need, leading to those children possibly being scattered across the country.
The clues found might not necessarily pertain to Cheng Zhiwei’s situation.
"Please rest assured, we will track them down as soon as possible."
Cheng Zhiwei slowly pushed herself up by her arms, with only one thought in her mind, that she had to find him.
Her complexion was very pale, and her eyes, pitch-black with pain, Zhou Lin instinctively grabbed her wrist, "Zhiwei, I will have someone look for him right away, we will definitely find him."
Before he could finish speaking, his hand was violently shaken off.
Cheng Zhiwei’s body swayed twice before she steadied herself, tears on the verge of falling, covered in a despairing hatred, "What’s the use of saying these things now?"
Cheng Zhiwei thought she already hated him enough, but only now did she realize that hatred has no upper limit.
Hatred that penetrates to the marrow.
"Zhiwei, calm down," Zhou Lin said, guilty, his only option being to reach out and pull her towards him.
"It’s my child that’s lost, how can I be calm?" Cheng Zhiwei slapped away his hand and stepped back, her calf hitting a chair, making a crackling sound.
"I’ll go and find him."
"It’s been three years, and I don’t know whose side he’s on, whether he’s well-fed, warmly dressed, whether he’s been beaten or abused, if he’s still... alive... And all of this because of your selfishness."
Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t control her emotions; she truly hated him for his mistakes and his constant attempts to cover them up.
But she hated herself more, thinking, if she had obediently gone for prenatal checkups, they certainly would have discovered the child’s existence. If she had known she was carrying triplets, she would have been prepared during delivery.
How could she have skipped the prenatal checkups just to spite Zhou Lin?
She really wasn’t a qualified mother.
She owed him an apology.
"Alright," Zhou Lin’s eyes also reddened, remorse gnawing at his nerves. He suddenly pulled Cheng Zhiwei into his arms, "It’s my fault, I’m sorry for what happened to him."
Cheng Zhiwei struggled violently against him, but it only resulted in his tighter embrace and his repeated cries of "I’m sorry."
Tears fell on her skin, burning fiercely.
He cried.
Cheng Zhiwei’s resistance weakened, her fingers clutching tightly at Zhou Lin’s clothes. Her hatred turned into a powerless plea, "Find him and bring him back, please."
"Please, you must bring him back."
His large palm pressed against the back of her head, holding her tightly; Zhou Lin kissed the top of her head, "I will definitely bring him back."
"Zhiwei." The door of the reception room was pushed open from the outside, He Ye’s voice caught in his throat, suddenly at a loss for words.
It was Cheng Zhiyin who squeezed in from behind him, anxiously asking, "What’s going on?"
Zhou Lin had already let go of his arms, taking a step back, his voice hoarse but exceptionally firm, "Wait for my news."
He brushed his clothes and left, only glancing fleetingly at He Ye by the door as he left.
Cheng Zhiwei’s intense emotions subsided; she grasped Cheng Zhiyin’s arm tightly, her voice low and strained, "Sis, I want to go home."
"Okay, let’s go home."
Cheng Zhiyin supported her as they walked out.
Having recovered, He Ye approached the door, drawing Cheng Zhi into his embrace, gently patting her back, "Zhiwei, what happened?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s face showed exhaustion, "Senior, I’ll explain to you tomorrow, alright?"
She didn’t want to talk about anything right now.
He Ye’s expression grew desolate, and he nodded gently, "Okay, I’ll take you home."
Cheng Zhiwei leaned on him as they walked out.
Cheng Zhiyin followed behind.
Huo Xuan walked beside her, his voice low and soothing, "Teacher Cheng, if there’s anything, please contact me; maybe I can help."
Cheng Zhiyin responded perfunctorily with a "Hmm," and hurried off.
Huo Xuan knew she hadn’t really listened, and he shook his head with a wry smile and headed to Zhou Lin’s car.
Seeing Zhou Lin’s grave expression, he asked, "What happened? You look very troubled."
