Chapter 32: Chapter 32 A Heart With A Thousand Wounds Still Hurts

He Ye responded with an indifferent tone, "Zhiwei is my friend, and when she’s been framed, of course I’ll help her. I’m not like Young President Zhou, who has such self-control that he can watch his wife get slandered without caring, even going so far as to cover for the real culprit behind the scenes."

A sense of tension suddenly filled the entire room.

Zhou Lin pursed his lips unconcernedly, his tone both arrogant and contemptuous, "What a pity, Mr. He, you’re nothing but warm-hearted."

The implication was clear: He Ye lacked the capability to resolve the issue for Cheng Zhiwei.

He Ye’s gentle laugh, not taking Zhou Lin’s sarcasm to heart, resonated lightly, "So what? Doing one’s best is better than coldly standing by and watching with indifference."

"Does Mr. He think his business is going too smoothly?" Zhou Lin sneered coldly, showing no ounce of respect for He Ye.

With her eyes reddening, Cheng Zhiwei looked up at Zhou Lin, "Zhou Lin, threatening this person and that, do you think you’re really that powerful?"

As soon as she spoke, Zhou Lin pursed his lips, his expression darkening.

Just when the answer she was within reach of was about to be hers, Zhou Lin’s appearance interrupted Wu Chengshuang, making it clear that he knew Wu Chengshuang was under Bai Zhuzhu’s orders; he intended to protect Bai Zhuzhu.

He not only suppressed her on Bai Zhuzhu’s behalf but also threatened He Ye, who was helping her. Why was this person so detestable?

"The online issue has been taken care of, Cheng Zhiwei, you should know when to stop," said Zhou Lin with a frosty tone, his stern face showing a trace of impatience.

It was obvious that Bai Zhuzhu had directed Wu Chengshuang to spread rumors deliberately, it was obvious she was innocent, yet Zhou Lin insisted on maintaining an attitude of lofty charity, making Cheng Zhiwei’s nerves taut.

"Know when to stop?" Cheng Zhiwei fought hard to keep her tears at bay, "I’m just trying to defend my legitimate rights, and you’re telling me to know when to stop? Why don’t you tell your mistress to know when to stop? She started this, are you blind that you can’t see it?"

"Enough, Cheng Zhiwei," Zhou Lin’s voice went ice-cold, his presence menacing, "This matter has been resolved, and it has nothing to do with Zhuzhu."

He had made himself quite clear.

"So, you want Wu Chengshuang to take the fall for her?" Cheng Zhiwei said, her voice dripping with scorn as she glanced at Wu Chengshuang.

Wu Chengshuang suddenly looked panicked, "President Zhou, I..."

"Shut up." Zhou Lin curtly cut him off.

Wu Chengshuang shrank back, not daring to continue.

Zhou Lin sent a warning glance at He Ye before looking back to Cheng Zhiwei, "I’ve said the issue is resolved, what more do you want?"

"What more do I want?" Cheng Zhiwei mumbled to herself, feeling a profound sense of desolation.

All she wanted was justice and fairness.

"Cheng Zhiwei, stop causing trouble behind the scenes and just follow orders. I’ve warned you," he said.

Having said that, he turned around and left, taking Wu Chengshuang with him.

Cheng Zhiwei was full of grief and anger, feeling suffocated inside as the tears finally fell. Even though she was the real victim, it turned out that she was being unreasonable.

A heart riddled with wounds still pains.

He Ye sighed, reached out to stroke Cheng Zhiwei’s hair, his voice muffled, "Zhiwei, I’m sorry, it’s my lack of ability that I can’t help you."

Cheng Zhiwei’s sorrow was slightly eased by this, and she tried to keep herself from crying further, shaking her head, "It’s me who has dragged you into this."

And with a resentful stomp, "Zhou Lin is a real bastard."

If it weren’t for her, He Ye wouldn’t have been targeted by Zhou Lin.

Outside the door, the real bastard left without showing any expression on his face.

"I’ll take you back," He Ye said.

Cheng Zhiwei nodded, and no one mentioned the matter again on the way.

Back at the hotel, Zhou Lin was in a foul mood, every time he closed his eyes, he saw the image of He Ye comforting Cheng Zhiwei by touching the top of her head. All he wanted was to call Cheng Zhiwei and leave with her, to have her by his side and watch as he took care of the situation, so she wouldn’t always fear he would harm her.

But what did he see instead? He Ye touching her hair, such intimate behavior, and she didn’t even pull away... Did she not realize she was a married woman anymore...

"Miss Bai is here," Secretary Zhang announced, entering from the outside.

Bai Zhuzhu walked in with light steps, wearing a pink bow in her hair, making her look more cute and lovely, her voice sweet as she said, "Brother Lin, did you want to see me?"

Zhou Lin looked up, his gaze sharp.

Bai Zhuzhu seemed a bit frightened, shrinking back, and asked with tremulous lips, appearing pitifully aggrieved, "What’s wrong? Brother Lin, did I do something wrong?"

The red embers at his fingertips flickered in and out, smoke wafting ethereally, Zhou Lin sat on the couch, "Did you have Wu Chengshuang release those rumors online?"

It was a question, but his tone was certain.

Bai Zhuzhu hesitated, then walked over, pretending to be clueless, "Are you talking about Sister Zhiwei’s incident? I don’t know about it, it has nothing to do with me."

Zhou Lin leaned back on the couch, legs crossed, gazing at Bai Zhuzhu with a smirk that was not quite a smile, calling her full name for the first time, "Bai Zhuzhu, do you think I’m that easy to deceive?"

He was clearly angry now.

Bai Zhuzhu’s eyes reddened instantly, rapidly calculating in her mind, then pitifully tugged at Zhou Lin’s sleeve, "Did I cause you trouble?"

She was clever, knowing that outright denial would only irritate Zhou Lin, but admitting to it provided countless reasons to excuse herself.

She sobbed softly, her fists clenched, "I was just angry, they deliberately tried to pull the wool over your eyes with underhanded tactics."

"For me?" Zhou Lin snorted coldly.

Bai Zhuzhu lifted her hand to wipe her eyes, "I’m also jealous of Sister Zhiwei. I grew up in poor conditions, and it was incredibly hard for me to go to college, while Sister Zhiwei was born with such a good voice, I can never match her."

Self-pity was the best way to stir a man’s desire to protect.

Moreover, Bai Zhuzhu hadn’t finished, "I belong to you, Brother Lin, but I can’t make you proud. If outsiders knew about this, they would only mock you for wasting so much money on me. I don’t want you to become a laughingstock."

She cried vehemently, her voice turning hoarse.

"I’m sorry, Brother Lin, I acted on my own. If this causes you trouble, just blame it on me. I’ll take all the responsibility and won’t cause you any trouble."

Zhou Lin’s stern expression slowly softened. He turned his head without irritation, "Stop crying, when did I say I couldn’t handle it?"

Bai Zhuzhu sniffled, her eyes showing surprise, "I knew Brother Lin was the best."

"But I hope you remember not to provoke Cheng Zhiwei again," Zhou Lin warned.

It wasn’t that he was afraid of Cheng Zhiwei, but that his mother would always side with Cheng Zhiwei, and when she pressed, she was unforgiving to everyone.

Bai Zhuzhu obediently nodded, "I understand, Brother Lin."

Her lips readily agreed, but her heart was filled with jealousy and dissatisfaction. Zhou Lin clearly didn’t like Cheng Zhiwei, yet now that there was a problem, Zhou Lin scolded her and warned her for Cheng Zhiwei’s sake?

It seemed that Zhou Lin was going to help Cheng Zhiwei settle the matter.

It was so frustrating.

Damn it, why did she continue to cling to Brother Lin and refuse to divorce? What a wretched woman.
