Chapter 284: Can Zhou Lin Trap Cheng Zhiwei for a Lifetime?

Chapter 284: Chapter 284: Can Zhou Lin Trap Cheng Zhiwei for a Lifetime?

"If you have a shred of conscience left, considering what I did for you back then, please don’t appear in front of me," Cheng Zhiwei said, tilting her chin up, her tone light and delicate.

She was about to leave when Zhou Lin, almost instinctively, grabbed her wrist: "Zhiwei."

"Zhiwei." A gentle voice sounded, cutting through the suffocating atmosphere like a knife.

He Ye walked over, nodded at Zhou Lin, and then his gaze settled entirely on Cheng Zhiwei, "Why are you here? Are you not feeling well?"

"Senior," Cheng Zhiwei gathered all her negative feelings and her face blossomed into a bright smile, "I came to see a friend, what about you?"

"My mom is sick, staying here."

"Is it serious?"

"Not too bad, just an old ailment."

The two of them struck up a conversation, and in the presence of He Ye, Cheng Zhiwei visibly relaxed.

That was a side of Zhiwei that Zhou Lin had never seen before, so at ease.

It made him jealous.

"He Ye." Zhou Lin forcibly interrupted their conversation, "I heard you left the studio?"

He Ye nodded. "Yes."

"Was the investment I offered not enough?"

"It’s not that, I just feel like I’m doing pretty well on my own." He Ye’s words were casual, but he had been really upset when he had left the studio.

After all, he had built it up bit by bit, and his attachment ran deep.

Zhou Lin’s expression was indifferent. "Zhou’s has a commercial coming up for investment, if you’re interested, we could talk in detail."

"Thank you for the offer, but I have no plans to take on commercials at the moment," He Ye politely declined.

Cheng Zhiwei tugged at He Ye’s clothes, "I happen to be here, I’ll go visit Auntie."

"Sure."

As the two walked side by side inward, they exuded a harmonious beauty from behind.

Zhou Lin clenched his fingers without expression, his heart echoing with an emptiness that was hard to bear.

If He Ye was the one, he would never be able to sway Cheng Zhiwei’s heart back, right?

Would he lose her forever?

It was only after they entered the elevator that He Ye asked, "Why was Zhou Lin here?"

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t hide it from him and recounted how he had bumped into her while she was on a blind date, chuckling bitterly, "He thinks the whole world should revolve around him. What’s wrong with me going on a blind date? We’re already divorced, it’s none of his business."

"Blind date?" He Ye dwelt on the words, the idea that had been there for many years suddenly surged forward, "I thought you weren’t planning on getting married again."

"Why not?" Cheng Zhiwei looked straight ahead, unfazed, "One failed marriage doesn’t negate all others, not everyone is like Zhou Lin."

He Ye gazed intently at her fair cheeks, "It’s best if you can think that way. So what do you think of me?"

"Ah?" Cheng Zhiwei instinctively looked up, meeting his slightly flushed face and his nervous expression.

Suddenly she found herself at a loss for words, "Senior?"

"Zhiwei, I’m serious," He Ye voiced boldly, figuring that since he had started, he might as well express all his feelings in one go.

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward.

Cheng Zhiwei’s heartbeat quickened ever so slightly, but she still retained her sense of reason, "Senior, have you really thought this through? I’m not suitable."

She had been divorced and had a child; it wasn’t that she looked down on herself, but she felt that a man as refined as He Ye deserved better.

No sooner had the words left her lips than she was pulled into a warm embrace.

He Ye’s voice arose above her head, exceedingly tender, "Since you’re already going on blind dates, why don’t we give it a try? If it works out, we’ll be together; if not, we’ll separate."

Cheng Zhiwei covered her cheeks, her forehead resting on He Ye’s shoulder. She could go on blind dates with strangers with a straight face, but when faced with He Ye’s confession, she couldn’t hold herself together.

"But..."

"Ding."

The elevator reached their floor.

Cheng Zhiwei quickly stood up straight and tidied up her hair, "We’re here."

"Mmm," He Ye pretended not to notice her embarrassment and walked ahead.

He Ye’s mother, Yu Shulan, had just finished receiving an injection. Seeing her son return so suddenly, she asked in surprise, "Did you forget something?"

"No, my friend wanted to come see you," He Ye introduced Cheng Zhiwei.

Yu Shulan’s eyes immediately brightened, "Girlfriend?"

"Cough, she hasn’t agreed to it yet," He Ye said as he offered Cheng Zhiwei a seat and poured her some water.

Cheng Zhiwei felt a bit awkward, "Auntie, I came in a hurry and didn’t buy you anything. I’ll bring something next time I visit."

"There’s no need for that, just coming is enough," Yu Shulan was very enthusiastic, pulling Cheng Zhiwei to ask all sorts of questions related to family matters.

"Mom, don’t scare her," He Ye said helplessly.

"I won’t ask anymore," Yu Shulan said happily, her gaze constantly on He Ye and Cheng Zhiwei, finding them a fine match and very satisfying.

Cheng Zhiwei sat for a while and then prepared to leave.

"Wait a moment." Yu Shulan fumbled over herself, then remembered she was wearing a hospital gown, "Girl, I’m so sorry. I wanted to give you a gift for meeting you, but I really don’t have anything on me."

"You don’t need to, Auntie. I just happened to be in the hospital and came to wish you a quick recovery and to return home soon," Cheng Zhiwei said with a light smile.

Yu Shulan couldn’t help but feel completely satisfied with her. She surreptitiously signaled He Ye, who pretended not to see. He wouldn’t just go along with his mother’s wishes on a whim.

Pulling Cheng Zhiwei up to leave, "Didn’t you say you were going back?"

Cheng Zhiwei quickly agreed, "Auntie, I’ll come visit you again next time."

"Remember to come," Yu Shulan called out joyously from afar.

Once out of the sickroom, He Ye said with some apology, "Did my mom scare you?"

"Not at all, Auntie has a really nice personality."

A personality to be envied.

"So, what about the matter I mentioned earlier? Have you considered it?" He Ye pressed on eagerly, desperate for a response.

Cheng Zhiwei was taken aback, smiling wryly, "Senior, I can’t just casually agree to you."

With just Zhou Lin alone, He Ye could barely cope, let alone the possibility of losing his career altogether.

He Ye instantly guessed her thoughts, "Are you afraid of Zhou Lin?"

"When that man goes crazy, there’s no telling what he’ll do," Cheng Zhiwei felt a headache coming on just thinking about it. She didn’t want to drag He Ye into this mess.

"Let’s do this, let’s set the time for us to date to when the last song is finished. If you feel it’s alright, then we can be together," He Ye resolved.

Cheng Zhiwei thought about it, but still didn’t agree immediately, "I have two children, and I won’t give up on them."

"I know," He Ye thought of the impression he had of the two kids, "They’re adorable."

He had seen them once before, passing by from a distance. He glanced over, but because of his rushed schedule, he didn’t go to greet them.

"But I still can’t agree to you," Cheng Zhiwei was very rational. He Ye was a good marriage prospect, but she dared not agree, fearing Zhou Lin would cause him trouble.

"No rush, we still have time," He Ye said with certainty, full of confidence.

Time is the great healer of all.

Zhou Lin couldn’t possibly trap Cheng Zhiwei for a lifetime.
