The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 279: My Ex-Husband

Chapter 279: Chapter 279: My Ex-Husband

Cheng Zhiwei still felt uneasy about the last time she was vilified online and didn’t want to implicate anyone else.

"Oh, it’s trending." He Ye’s assistant, Yu Wenwen, took out her phone and handed it to He Ye, "Brother Ye, look, is this Miss Cheng?"

The trending topic was a photo of He Ye signing autographs at the airport. From his side, someone could be seen standing there. It wasn’t clear, but the long hair and attire indicated it was a woman.

Because He Ye had mentioned that the bouquet was from someone important, fans speculated whether it was that person.

Cheng Zhiwei felt somewhat embarrassed, "I was just curious and took a glance."

How had she been caught on camera?

He Ye didn’t mind, "It’s okay, we were going to release the name eventually."

He thought for a moment, then instructed Yu Wenwen, "Admit to it openly, but hold off on mentioning her name for now,"

Yu Wenwen nodded, "Got it, Brother Ye."

Cheng Zhiwei felt a bit pressured, "Actually, you could clarify that I was just a bystander, I... still need to think it over."

"Miss Cheng should trust He Ye’s judgment, just like me. At first, I thought I would just scrape by in this life, but now I can sit here because I trusted him," someone drank a sip of wine and let out a bitter remark, "Anyhow, the consequences can’t be worse than it is now, right?"

Cheng Zhiwei hesitated, "But my situation is different from yours."

"We’ll talk about it later," He Ye interrupted her gently and soothed, "My current album isn’t finished yet, you still have time to think it over."

"Alright, thank you, senior," Cheng Zhiwei relaxed.

Halfway through the meal, the restaurant manager came in and placed an expensive bottle of red wine on the table.

"He Ye, it’s just a regular dinner, why such expensive wine?"

"Yeah, better save it for the celebration party," they said.

He Ye furrowed his brows lightly, "It wasn’t me."

The manager smiled, "This is a gift from President Zhou to Mr. He, welcoming Mr. He back, and President Zhou is paying for this meal, please enjoy."

The warm atmosphere suddenly cooled, He Ye looked at the bottle of wine, a hint of realization crossing his gaze.

As soon as Cheng Zhiwei heard the word "Zhou," she understood. She spoke coldly, "Please take it back; we don’t need his things here."

She was angry. Zhou Lin was too intrusive, even sending over wine. Didn’t he know that no one here wanted to hear his name?

The manager bowed slightly, "Miss Cheng, we are just following orders. If you want to return it to President Zhou, please make the trip yourself; he’s right next door in another private room."

Cheng Zhiwei stood up to take the wine; she wanted to return it.

He Ye grabbed her wrist and pulled her back down, his grip firm, his voice forceful, "Since it’s from President Zhou, please convey our thanks to him. We have other matters and won’t go over to thank him personally."

He responded suavely.

Cheng Zhiwei realized she was about to fall into a trap; perhaps Zhou Lin wanted her to come to him, so he deliberately sent over a bottle of wine.

She calmed down, smiled at the manager, "Yes, please convey our thanks."

After all, it was Zhou Lin’s money she was spending; why should she hurry?

The smile on the manager’s face faltered, and he left awkwardly.

"President Zhou is..." someone asked.

Cheng Zhiwei looked down slightly and said softly, "My ex-husband."

Everyone was startled and looked at He Ye, thinking Cheng Zhiwei was associated with him.

He Ye delicately said, "We are very good friends."

A sentence sealed the fate of their relationship.

Someone shifted the topic to discuss He Ye’s album.

Dinner continued until nine o’clock at night.

After the gathering, Cheng Zhiwei drove home.

As her car stopped below her apartment, Cheng Zhiwei had just gotten out when someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her into a shadowy area.

Before she could react, she found herself plunged into familiar arms.

"Zhou Lin, what are you doing?" Cheng Zhiwei, with her arms bent and pressing against Zhou Lin’s chest, her brows and eyes filled with coldness.

In the shadows, Zhou Lin’s expression turned fiercely grim as he muttered in a lowered voice, "Why didn’t you come to see me?"

He had sent a bottle of wine, waiting for her to come and confront him so he could find an excuse to keep her.

But all he got were the words relayed by the manager.

She knew it was him, yet she changed her mind with just a few words from He Ye.

Was she that obedient to He Ye’s words?

Cheng Zhiwei stopped struggling, looked up at him sarcastically, and said, "Zhou Lin, in what capacity are you demanding that I come to you?"

Zhou Lin’s heart twitched, his eyes reddened, "Zhiwei, must you hurt me like this?"

"I’ve told you, please don’t come here again," Cheng Zhiwei firmly reminded him, "You and I are no longer involved."

"Who says we’re not involved?" Zhou Lin’s breathing deepened, "Without me, would you have Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s expression changed, "Zhou Lin, you’re shameless."

How could he dare to say such things.

Although it should not be said, he clearly understood under what circumstances Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing were conceived.

Zhou Lin apparently realized this as well, and his tone softened, "I’m sorry, Zhiwei, I’m just a bit scared."

He was afraid that she would end up with He Ye.

When Zhou Lin saw that airport photo, his body trembled uncontrollably, the thought of Cheng Zhiwei going to pick up He Ye, and how tenderly that bouquet of flowers was held by him made his heart ache intensely.

Holding her tightly in his arms, Zhou Lin pleaded in a whisper, "I know you want to fulfill your dreams, Zhiwei, I can support you, make you a superstar."

Cheng Zhiwei gazed emotionlessly into the distance, letting him hold her. After a few seconds, she sarcastically said, "I know you have money, and you can support anyone you want, but Zhou Lin, I’m not interested."

She did not want him intruding on her dream.

He didn’t deserve to.

Hearing the disdain in her tone, Zhou Lin became tremendously agitated, "Whatever He Ye can do, I can do too, Zhiwei, don’t go to him."

"Or what? You want to blacklist him?" Cheng Zhiwei responded sarcastically with a smile.

Zhou Lin closed his eyes, how could he dare.

He used to control every move of hers by manipulating the people around her, eventually driving her to the brink of madness.

"I won’t do anything to him, I just want you to understand that I can give you anything you want, you don’t have to struggle so hard," Zhou Lin said soothingly, "Alright?"

Seizing the moment he slightly loosened his grip, Cheng Zhiwei broke free and stepped back a few meters away from him.

"Zhou Lin, we are already divorced, it’s normal for you to see someone or for me to see someone. I’ve told you, I won’t stop you from seeing the kids, but you have no right to dictate who I am with."
