The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 278: Senior, Welcome Back

Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Senior, Welcome Back

Airport.

When Cheng Zhiwei had picked up He Ye, it was already three in the afternoon.

They hadn’t seen each other for three years.

After leaving the studio three years ago to strike out on his own, He Ye had become a leading star in his own right, thanks to his unique voice and solid skills.

His latest album had surpassed ten million preorders within just three days of its online release.

Today was the day he returned to his home country, and Cheng Zhiwei had come specially to pick him up from the airport.

After three years of growth, He Ye had become more steady and mature. He was wearing a short-sleeved shirt with a vintage pattern, giving him the appearance of a graceful and elegant young nobleman, if it hadn’t been for the mask.

"Senior, welcome back." Cheng Zhiwei gave him the flowers she brought, a smile lifting her face.

Cradling the flowers, He Ye’s eyes crinkled with a smile, "You too, Zhiwei, welcome back."

He pulled a box out of his pocket and handed it to Cheng Zhiwei, "A gift."

"For me?" Cheng Zhiwei was somewhat flattered.

"Yeah, I had planned to come back with you originally, but something held me up," He Ye explained, "Go wait for me in the car, I need to meet with the fans over there."

"Alright, then give me the flowers." Cheng Zhiwei reached out to take them.

He Ye lifted his arms higher, "I’ll hold onto them, you go ahead."

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t insist and turned towards the parking lot.

She had only walked a few steps when she heard the screams from nearby.

Cheng Zhiwei looked back and, through the glass, saw He Ye greeting fans and signing autographs.

He was serious and gentle.

His team was beside him, maintaining order, and the atmosphere was good.

Cheng Zhiwei took out her phone and snapped a photo, her lips curving up, then quickly walked away, wary of being seen by the fans.

Meanwhile, He Ye, while signing autographs, thanked his fans for their support and urged them to head home early.

The gifts and flowers from the fans were gathered by his staff, but the bouquet he held tightly in his arms remained cradled there, unmoved.

A fan joked, "That bouquet must be from someone very important since you’ve been holding it the whole time."

He Ye stopped writing for a moment and smiled faintly, "Yes, from a very important person indeed."

The fans erupted in excitement.

"He Ye, should you be saying that?" A staff member blurted out in shock.

Then He Ye calmly added, "A very good friend who will also be singing a duet on this album."

"You scared me, I thought you were officially announcing a girlfriend," the fans laughed, and the atmosphere grew even warmer.

Cheng Zhiwei waited in the car for nearly an hour before He Ye finally finished meeting with his fans.

His team parted ways with him at the parking lot.

Once in the car, Cheng Zhiwei asked for his address and drove him home.

Rubbing his temples, He Ye leaned back in the seat, "I’ll take a nap, wake me when we get there."

"Okay."

Forty minutes later, they arrived at the parking lot of He Ye’s apartment, and he woke up on his own.

"Zhiwei," his voice was hoarse, and he lazily bent his long legs, "Are we here?"

"Yes."

He Ye didn’t get out of the car immediately but shifted his body, finding a more comfortable position to sit, "What do you think about the matter I mentioned?"

Cheng Zhiwei looked out the window, the parking lot was quiet, and she could hear her own voice, "Senior, do you really want to choose me?"

Her voice even trembled uncontrollably.

She couldn’t remember much about the incident three years ago, but there were always traces on the internet, plus the photos and screenshots sent by that person; she could guess. He Ye had helped her before, but in the end, he was defeated miserably.

Three years ago, He Ye had chosen Cheng Zhiwei without hesitation, but later when Cheng Zhiwei got into trouble, it implicated He Ye’s studio and it got heavily criticized and trended online, after which Zhou Lin invested, becoming the largest investor behind the studio.

Half a year later, after encountering betrayal by a close friend, he chose to leave the studio.

Today, while He Ye’s fame had soared, the studio remained lukewarm, and it was unknown if they regretted their decisions.

Of course, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t want to know these, she only knew that when He Ye invited her again, she was very happy and had made a lot of preparations.

But lately, seeing how popular He Ye had become, she hesitated.

She had already ruined his career once, did she need to do it again?

She couldn’t be so selfish.

"The last song, I wrote over three years," He Ye’s mellow voice slowly filled the car, "it was written for you, Zhiwei."

Cheng Zhiwei gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles turning white, "Have you thought it through? Once I appear, the events from three years ago will repeat themselves, and the higher you stand now, the harder you’ll fall."

And they would probably be brought up repeatedly.

"I know," He Ye said softly, "I don’t care."

He loved singing and also wanted a suitable partner.

Cheng Zhiwei was the right choice.

"As long as you can endure those curses," He Ye turned to look at Cheng Zhiwei, his eyes soft and gentle, "I don’t mind."

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes stung with tears; after all these years, He Ye still trusted her as before.

"You should have your own career, and a career isn’t always smooth sailing; I’m just giving you an opportunity, it’s up to you how you want to develop it in the future," He Ye made it clear, "Zhiwei, don’t waste your talent."

With that said, Cheng Zhiwei smiled, tears in her eyes, "Alright, then I will trouble you again."

Only then did He Ye nod, "Well done."

He lifted his wrist to check the time, "I will send you the contract; take a look at it first. We’re having dinner with the whole team tonight, you should come meet them too."

He hadn’t signed with any studio, but under the name of a team, he had gathered those who loved music. Perhaps they might not be as famous as those of the former studio, but each person was outstanding on their own.

"You’ll like them," He Ye added before heading upstairs to change his clothes.

When she arrived at the dinner place and met the group, Cheng Zhiwei understood why He Ye had said she would like these people.

The team, though only ten people, were all once-famous predecessors who had quickly been eclipsed by new waves.

And, life had smoothed out their rough edges.

Cheng Zhiwei knew it must have taken He Ye considerable effort to find them.

"This must be that important person who sent the flowers?" someone joked, instantly warming the atmosphere.

"The leading lady has arrived."

"I remember her, she’s that one who... who..."

"I know, the one who sang the OST for Director Wen three years ago and was then maligned by the entire internet."

"That’s her, ah, the girl really sings well."

"Envious."

They talked about that incident openly, without any pretense of avoiding the topic in front of Cheng Zhiwei, nor did they indulge in gossip behind her back.

Their candor filled Cheng Zhiwei’s heart with emotion.

Of course, there was also apprehension.

Worried that they might not accept her as she was.
