Chapter 202: Chapter 202: I Don’t Know You, Stop Following Me
Zhou Lin took a deep breath and lowered his eyes, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to question your capabilities."
Doctor Fang, with a slightly cold tone that didn’t worry about offending Zhou Lin, bluntly said, "You would say such a thing, so Miss Cheng becoming this way must be deeply related to you."
"Can you cure her?" asked Zhou Lin.
"Memory is a very delicate thing. To be honest, amnesia isn’t even considered a conventional mental illness, so medication won’t help," Doctor Fang paused, then added, "What’s important is your company."
She assumed Zhou Lin was Cheng Zhiwei’s husband, naturally the closest person to her.
However, Zhou Lin’s company was something Cheng Zhiwei had never received.
Zhou Lin got into the car with complex feelings. As soon as he sat down, he felt Cheng Zhiwei sneak a look at him. He turned to look at her, meeting her inquisitive eyes.
She carefully considered her words, "May I ask who you are?"
Zhou Lin’s throat bobbed, he had always thought she was pretending to be foolish with an ulterior motive. Then one day, she was confirmed to have amnesia and he suddenly didn’t know how to face this Cheng Zhiwei.
Moreover, all he saw in her eyes now was unfamiliarity.
A sense of surreal absurdity washed over him.
"Thank you for bringing me here," she said quietly and well-mannered, subtly pulling at the blanket over her body and smoothing her hair once.
It felt awkward being in front of a stranger like this, not knowing how to act.
The car traveled all the way back to Sparkling Sky City.
Cheng Zhiwei stood bewildered at the villa’s entrance, turned to look at Zhou Lin, seeing many people around but not recognizing a single one, she subconsciously asked Zhou Lin, "Where is this?"
She didn’t remember this place in her memories.
She pouted, "Please take me back, otherwise my dad will get angry."
Zhou Lin felt a bitter taste in his mouth as he watched her anxious expression. He couldn’t bring himself to tell her that her parents had gone back to their hometown. He could only whisper, "Your parents are on a business trip, did you forget? Auntie Lin... your mom arranged for you to stay at our place for a few days."
Cheng Zhiwei turned her head, bewildered and helpless, she had no recollection at all.
But her parents were history professors who often went out to study ancient cultures, and she had stayed at Zhou Family’s home a few times when she was a child.
Yet, why hadn’t she seen this unfamiliar man before?
She hesitated, standing there, really not wanting to step into an unfamiliar place.
But the early winter wind already had a bone-chilling coldness, and she was only draped in a not-so-thick blanket over her nightgown.
As the wind swept by, she shivered and tightened her blanket, unconsciously rubbing her calves together.
Zhou Lin pursed his lips and, as usual, reached out to forcibly bring her inside, but before he could even touch her, she jumped away like a startled rabbit.
She stared at him warily, "What are you trying to do?"
"It’s cold outside, let’s go inside and talk," Zhou Lin coaxed in a low voice, "Is that okay?"
"No, no, I want to go home," Cheng Zhiwei shook her head like a rattlesnake, taking quick steps backwards, "Don’t follow me."
She completely saw Zhou Lin as a malicious stranger.
"Cheng Zhiwei, don’t be like this," Zhou Lin said, pain evident in his voice as a hint of sorrow seeped into his gaze, "Don’t do this, we were fine."
But his heartfelt appearance, in Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes, simply contained two words.
Sick.
"I don’t know you, stop following me," Cheng Zhiwei screamed, ready to run.
"Young Madam... Miss Zhiwei," Wang Mei couldn’t stand it any longer and quickly intercepted Cheng Zhiwei, "If you don’t believe him, surely you believe me, right? Madam asked me to take good care of you."
Cheng Zhiwei hesitated, still standing there, warily glanced at Zhou Lin, then looked back at Wang Mei.
She was in a difficult position.
Zhou Lin endured the dry feeling and said with a deep voice, "You don’t trust me, but you can always trust her. Besides, I don’t often stay here. Stay comfortably for a few days, and when Madam Zhou returns, she will come to pick you up."
"Yes, if Miss Zhiwei doesn’t believe, I’ll send a video to Madam, so she can talk to you," Wang Mei said while taking out her phone.
"That won’t be necessary." Cheng Zhiwei, trusting Lin Yu, naturally trusted the person she had arranged.
Only then did she follow Wang Mei inside.
The bridal room she herself had overseen the decoration of, where she had lived for three years, seemed completely foreign to her as she looked around.
Everyone dared not make a sound.
Wang Mei turned her head away to wipe her tears before she spoke with red-rimmed eyes, "Young... Miss Zhiwei, please come with me; I will take you to bathe and change clothes."
Cheng Zhiwei politely responded, "Thank you for the trouble."
Once upstairs, Cheng Zhiwei firmly avoided the master bedroom and went to a nearby guest room instead.
She assumed it was the master bedroom and as a guest, it was not her place to enter.
Wang Mei dared not say much, only suggested she take a bath and got clothes for her.
When Cheng Zhiwei finished bathing, Wang Mei gave her a set of pajamas that surprisingly fit well, prompting her to ask with some surprise, "Is he married? Or does he have a girlfriend? Someone roughly my height?"
The clothes fit too well.
"Wearing her clothes, they won’t quarrel, right?"
"Is it not good for me to stay here?"
Wang Mei felt both heartache and amusement, only responding, "They’re old clothes, it’s fine as long as you don’t mind them."
"Just call me Zhiwei; no need for all the formalities," Cheng Zhiwei said with a smile, "By the way, what’s his name? The owner of this house, I mean."
She asked carefully to avoid troubling others without even knowing their name.
Wang Mei opened her mouth but initially didn’t know how to fabricate an identity for Zhou Lin, "I... I’m not sure; I’ve been sent by Madam to take care of you."
"Alright then, I’ll ask Auntie next time," Cheng Zhiwei shrugged, completely embodying her tranquil demeanor from her youth.
Once she was dressed, she took Wang Mei aside and suddenly asked in a serious, hushed tone, "Since you’re from the Zhou Family, do you know how your young master, Zhou Lin, is doing now?"
Wang Mei, caught off guard, answered automatically, "The young master is quite well."
He was right downstairs.
Cheng Zhiwei immediately became anxious, "Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. I’m just concerned about him; I wanted to ask if he still has nightmares, if he’s unable to sleep?"
Wang Mei paused, "Unable to sleep?"
"I know he was kidnapped, those people bullied him..." which had left him with a significant psychological trauma.
But that was several years ago, and Cheng Zhiwei’s memory had stopped there.
And she had forgotten everything that had happened since then.
"Why aren’t you speaking? Is he not doing well? I wanted to visit him, but Auntie said his emotions are unstable and advised me not to go yet, fearing he might hurt me."
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes reddened with worry as she sniffled, "He’s so kind, how could he hurt me."
At the doorway, Zhou Lin leaned against the wall, the shadow of his tousled hair masking the fluctuating emotions in his eyes.
He thought about how back then, he treated her like a sister, occasionally annoyed by her, not returning her calls or messages.
He was clearly not okay at all.
