Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Treating her that way, it was only a matter of time before she went mad
Wang Mei’s expression became blank. She glanced at Zhou Lin and then turned to Cheng Zhiwei, "Young Madam, don’t you recognize him?"
"He’s just a bodyguard. Why should I recognize him?" thought Cheng Zhiwei. She asked another question, "Aunt Wang, do you know him? If he lets go now and lets me leave, I won’t actually sue."
A snowflake fell from the dim sky, landing on Cheng Zhiwei’s nose and quickly melted into a spot of moisture.
Soon, more snowflakes fell, connecting the whole world and separating everyone’s expressions.
Cheng Zhiwei’s black and white eyes held anger, urgency, and unfamiliarity.
Zhou Lin unconsciously let go, his face expressionless but his taut jaw revealing his extreme unease.
For he clearly saw all the emotions in Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes, but hatred was conspicuously absent.
He unconsciously raised his voice, his tone becoming cold and sharp, "Cheng Zhiwei, are you playing the amnesia card now?"
His unkind mockery, like every time over the past three years, maliciously pierced her lies and exposed her despicable motives for all to see.
That way, his heart could balance out and find peace.
Yet, facing his mockery, Cheng Zhiwei just angrily pouted and stepped back, "I don’t even know you. Why are you talking to me like this?"
She was still pretending.
Zhou Lin’s expression suddenly turned ferocious and ominous. He gripped Cheng Zhiwei’s wrist even harder, "Cheng Zhiwei, if you want to save your sister, you should stay obediently in the hospital room. Understand?"
"Crazy," Cheng Zhiwei cursed, struggling hard, her wrist and even the back of her hand turning red.
"Young Master, Young Master, let go first," Wang Mei pleaded in terror, "Young Madam’s hand is going to be injured."
Zhou Lin’s sinister look faded, and emotionlessly, he released Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, coldly ordering, "Take her back."
However, the moment he let go, Cheng Zhiwei turned her head and ran out, only to be quickly pulled back by the alert Wang Mei.
Cheng Zhiwei, frustrated, stomped her foot and said with a grievance, "Aunt Wang, won’t you help me either?"
Wang Mei forced a smile and said, "You have to tell me where you’re going to find the young master first."
"To Zhang Yuanheng’s place. Isn’t he accompanying Seo Zhenzhen? I’m sure I can find him there," responded Cheng Zhiwei as if it were obvious.
Wang Mei pointed behind her, "It’s right here."
Cheng Zhiwei looked around, confusion appearing on her face, "How did I get here?"
She headed towards the hospital without saying more, Wang Mei hurriedly following.
Zhou Lin, with a complicated expression, stood still, "Call Zhang Yuanheng over."
Cheng Zhiwei ran in one breath to Seo Zhenzhen’s hospital room, only to find it empty, because Lin Yu’s fury meant Seo Zhenzhen could no longer stay there. Zhou Lin had arranged for her to be moved to another hospital.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know this; she stood dumbfounded at the doorway, staring at the empty room, becoming bewildered again.
She clearly remembered Seo Zhenzhen being here. Why was she gone?
But when had she remembered?
Her memory turned into a tangled mess, causing a headache.
Footsteps hurried down the corridor, and soon, a considerable group appeared at the door.
Cheng Zhiwei looked towards Zhang Yuanheng and quickly walked up to him to ask, "Where’s Seo Zhenzhen?"
Zhang Yuanheng, already informed by Secretary Zhang that Cheng Zhiwei’s mental state was a bit off, said intentionally, "Have you forgotten? Meng Qiancheng took Seo Zhenzhen away."
"Brother Qiancheng?" Cheng Zhiwei frowned, puzzled, "Where did he go?"
She didn’t remember the incident of her jumping into the sea with Meng Qiancheng.
"That’s enough," Zhou Lin said with a stern tone, his brows furrowed as he stared at Cheng Zhiwei. "Seo Zhenzhen isn’t here, go back to your ward."
Cheng Zhiwei, with a stern face and clearly unhappy, said, "You’re just a bodyguard; you have no right to manage my affairs."
Zhou Lin’s eyebrows twitched, and his expression turned ugly; she was still acting.
Wang Mei quickly came over to support Cheng Zhiwei, coaxing her softly, "Since Seo Zhenzhen isn’t here, why don’t you go back first? I’ll go and find out what’s happening, okay?"
Cheng Zhiwei agreed to follow her, "Then you better find out quickly."
"Okay." The two of them walked away gradually.
Zhou Lin asked expressionlessly, "What exactly is going on?"
Zhang Yuanheng hesitated, then said, "Amnesia, maybe?"
"But she still recognizes everyone else."
Except for Zhou Lin.
"I’m not good at this stuff; you need to find a psychiatrist to examine her," Zhang Yuanheng said, but still couldn’t help but comment, "However, with the way you treat her, it’s only a matter of time before she goes mad."
Zhang Yuanheng suggested that Cheng Zhiwei might have amnesia, but when she woke up after a sleep, she had returned to normal. She wasn’t clamoring to find Zhou Lin anymore and just sat on the couch, hugging her knees, completely still, staring at the snow outside the window.
When Zhou Lin entered, Wang Mei was tidying up and spoke in a low voice, "After she woke up, she’s been like this, hasn’t said a word."
Zhou Lin walked over.
He had just come in from outside; his clothes still carried the harsh chill. As he approached Cheng Zhiwei, she felt that penetrating coldness. She closed her eyes, with no desire to speak.
"Cheng Zhiwei," Zhou Lin said, looking at her pale cheeks and lifeless eyes, his voice detached, "not pretending to be mad or foolish now?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s normalcy confirmed to him that her previous unfamiliarity had been deliberate.
She had pretended to be mad and foolish for Cheng Zhiyin.
Yet facing his sarcasm, Cheng Zhiwei still maintained the same position, motionless.
She wasn’t interested in his words.
Suddenly, Zhou Lin felt a surge of panic. Her sitting there quietly gave him a feeling of permanent inaccessibility.
The uncontrollable feeling disgusted Zhou Lin, and he sternly warned her, "Take good care of yourself, stop feigning madness to cause me trouble. I won’t fall for it, or you will bear the consequences."
Cheng Zhiwei remained motionless, quiet like a puppet doll.
She hugged her knees, and the red marks on her wrist caught Zhou Lin’s eye.
They were injuries he had inflicted in his anger.
The cold, indifferent words suddenly stuck in his throat, not only unable to be spoken but also suffocating him.
For some reason, he recalled Zhang Yuanheng’s comment.
Whatever way he treated her, her going mad was only a matter of time.
But she was Cheng Zhiwei, wasn’t she resilient?
How had she suddenly become like this?
Zhou Lin’s emotions calmed down; he squatted in front of her, his palms clasping Cheng Zhiwei’s fingers. Her fingers were ice cold, the tips white as snow.
"Cheng Zhiwei, I promise you, once Sister Zhiyin gets out, I will definitely find her a respectable job and provide her enough compensation."
Cheng Zhiwei moved slightly, tilting her head to look at him. Her fingers gradually tightened as they pulled out of his grasp. She looked at him straight, her voice hoarse.
