Chapter 198: I’m Going to Find Zhou Lin
Chapter 198: Chapter 198: I’m Going to Find Zhou Lin
Three days later.
The monotonous beeping of the equipment caused anxiety to rise uncontrollably.
By the bedside, Zhou Lin gazed at Cheng Zhiwei with a detached coldness, recalling how her pale face and rigid body had been when he pulled her out of the water. If she hadn’t been taken to the hospital in time, she would have lost her life.
Secretary Zhang entered quietly, lowering his voice, "We haven’t found him."
Meng Qiancheng and Cheng Zhiwei had both fallen into the water together, but Meng Qiancheng was nowhere to be found.
The vast sea offered a glimmer of hope for survival, but without rescue, that possibility was minuscule.
The salvage team had searched for three days with no sight of Meng Qiancheng.
"Withdraw the people and keep a close watch on Zhou Chenyan’s side," Zhou Lin ordered indifferently. If Meng Qiancheng was still alive, he would definitely go back to find Zhou Chenyan.
Now that he firmly controlled all the power of the Zhou Group, Zhou Jinzhong couldn’t stir up any trouble, let alone Meng Qiancheng.
Secretary Zhang was about to continue talking when Cheng Zhiwei, who had been motionless on the bed, suddenly shuddered and then slowly opened her eyes.
Secretary Zhang exclaimed joyfully, "Young Madam has awakened. I’ll go find the doctor right away."
He hurried off to find Doctor Zhang.
Cheng Zhiwei had just woken up and was still somewhat confused.
After a brief examination, Doctor Zhang also breathed a sigh of relief, "It’s good that you’re awake."
He instructed the nurse to reinsert the IV.
As the needle pierced her hand, Cheng Zhiwei’s blurry eyes gradually began to clear, and her gaze slowly fell on Zhou Lin. Her lips moved slightly, a faint, barely audible sound emanating.
Zhou Lin, however, moved to her right side and spoke with a hint of gentleness, "Are you feeling better?"
"Zhou Lin," Cheng Zhiwei practically cried out, her already dry throat painfully stretched as if tearing, "For what I did for you this time, please let my sister go."
Zhou Lin was silent for a few seconds, his dark eyes, like an abyss, unblinkingly fixed on her. He slowly said, "I can’t do that for now, but don’t worry, your sister will be out soon, safe and sound."
Cheng Zhiwei looked up, her whole body aching so much that she couldn’t even summon the strength to move. Yet she still had to endure and plead with Zhou Lin.
"She’s innocent, Zhou Lin. It was obviously a trap you set. You and Meng Qiancheng can fight however you want, but why involve her?"
"As I said, focus on your recovery. Nothing will happen to her," he responded.
"That’s not right," Cheng Zhiwei said softly, beginning to yell. The IV insertion site on the back of her hand quickly swelled due to her exertion.
But that pain and the agony throughout her body compared to the bitterness inside her, were nothing. She sat up, and the medication in the IV tube was pushed back by a surge of red blood.
Her smooth black hair was a tangled mess, like weeds in winter, her complexion pale and ghastly, utterly withered and ruined.
Zhou Lin’s already grim expression turned even more foreboding. He glanced at her swollen hand and the blood reentering the IV, his voice finally betraying a hint of panic, "Cheng Zhiwei, be obedient."
Cheng Zhiwei was speechless, overwhelmed by fatigue, exhaustion, and the fruitlessness of her powerless efforts that could completely break her down.
Shortly after, a nurse came in to administer another injection to Cheng Zhiwei.
Cheng Zhiwei lay on the hospital bed, feeling waves of dizziness.
In her blurred consciousness, she only heard the nurse’s voice, "Doctor Zhang, Doctor Zhang, the patient’s heart rate is dropping... blood pressure is dropping..."
Zhou Lin’s voice was also there, trembling, "Cheng Zhiwei..."
Half a month later.
Wang Mei entered the hospital room with breakfast as usual, but encountered Cheng Zhiwei, dressed in a hospital gown and about to leave.
The hospital gown hung loosely on her, accentuating her frailty.
"Young Madam, where are you going?" Wang Mei hurriedly asked.
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes appeared somewhat blank as she gripped Wang Mei’s hand and pushed her aside, "I need to find Zhou Lin."
"It’s cold outside, have your breakfast first, and I’ll call the young master," Wang Mei said somewhat joyfully.
Since her last emergency room visit, Cheng Zhiwei had spent a week in the ICU and had become unusually quiet upon her return, often staring out the window in a daze, silent all day, and eating very little.
Her sudden declaration to find Zhou Lin showed a considerable improvement in her spirits, and Wang Mei was very relieved.
She had finally come to terms with it.
"I must find him," Cheng Zhiwei insisted. "I need to save my sister."
Wang Mei grabbed her arm, "Miss Zhiyin..."
"My sister is innocent, she couldn’t possibly have stolen anything, Aunt Wang, please let me go."
"Don’t get agitated, I’ll call him and ask him to come over," Wang Mei responded.
Cheng Zhiwei fell silent for a few seconds, then sadly said, "He won’t come. Seo Zhenzhen is about to have surgery, and he needs to be with her."
Wang Mei’s expression changed, incredulous yet cautious as she looked at Cheng Zhiwei, "Young Madam, you said Seo Zhenzhen is having surgery?"
Cheng Zhiwei leaned against the wall weakly, "I heard everything you and Zhang Yuanheng said. Zhou Lin won’t come, he has to stay with Seo Zhenzhen, he has to convict my sister, to ensure Meng Qiancheng spends a lifetime in jail, but I can’t let him do that."
"Young Madam, you rest first, I’ll contact the young master, I promise I’ll bring him here," Wang Mei said, suppressing her worries and soothing Cheng Zhiwei gently.
Cheng Zhiwei, dazed, followed her movements back to the bed.
As soon as Wang Mei closed the door, she took out her mobile phone and immediately called Zhou Lin, "Young master, something is off with the Young Madam."
"I’ll be there right away," the man on the other end of the phone said.
But by the time Wang Mei turned around, Cheng Zhiwei had already run out of the hospital room.
She ran into the street to hail a taxi, but it was the peak hour of eight in the morning, and after several minutes of waiting without success, she aimlessly wandered the streets.
Just then, she saw a taxi pull up across the street and someone getting out. Without thinking, she started to cross the street.
A strong force pulled her back.
Zhou Lin looked down at her, his palm tightly gripping her wrist, his expression stern, "Cheng Zhiwei, have you lost your mind?"
Cheng Zhiwei stared directly at Zhou Lin, her brows slowly furrowing as if she encountered something perplexing, involuntarily muttering, "Who are you? Are you Zhou Lin? No, Zhou Lin wouldn’t be here, he’s with Seo Zhenzhen, I need to find him."
As she spoke, she started to struggle and shouted angrily, "Who are you, let me go."
Zhou Lin’s eyes narrowed, and he pulled her close by the waist, "Cheng Zhiwei, enough... enough."
His voice softened as he held her and cooed lowly, "It’s okay now, you’re here."
But Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes widened like a frightened cat, and she pushed Zhou Lin away fiercely, glaring at him, "I’m telling you, don’t think I won’t dare do anything just because you’re one of Zhou Lin’s people. If I tell Mr. Zhou and Madam Zhou about how you treated me, they will definitely fire you."
Wang Mei and Secretary Zhang had caught up by then. Wang Mei, out of breath, said, "Young Madam, the young master is already here, talk to him about anything you want."
Cheng Zhiwei frowned angrily, "Aunt Wang, please call my mom, tell her to fire this person; he’s hurt me."
