Chapter 185 Dirty
Chapter 185: Chapter 185 Dirty
Zhou Lin returned to Sparkling Sky City past midnight. He got out of the car and instinctively looked up, noticing that the light was still on in the master bedroom.
Had Cheng Zhiwei not gone to sleep yet?
The door to the master bedroom wasn’t shut tightly. Zhou Lin entered but didn’t see Cheng Zhiwei on the bed.
He paused, feeling the quilt.
The quilt was cool.
Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t there.
His expression changed in an instant. He was about to call Wang Mei, but his gaze suddenly turned toward the bathroom.
There was light coming from there.
The bathroom door was pushed open, and Zhou Lin saw Cheng Zhiwei.
She curled up in the bathtub, her long hair floating on the surface. She hugged her knees, unresponsive to the entrance of someone else.
Her smooth skin had turned a cold, pallid white from soaking in the water for too long.
Zhou Lin stretched out half of his palm to test the water temperature—it was icy cold to the touch.
Anger surged within him as he forcefully pulled Cheng Zhiwei out, staring fixedly at her bloodless lips.
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes finally moved, calmly and without a ripple as she looked at Zhou Lin before serenely averting her gaze.
"You’re in such cold water. Do you want to freeze to death here?" Zhou Lin asked, holding back his temper.
Cheng Zhiwei cast her eyes down; her wet hair clung to her skin. She avoided Zhou Lin, grabbed a bath towel to wrap herself, stepped out onto the cold bathroom floor with her bare feet, and walked out.
Zhou Lin, expressionless, picked her up straight away, placed her beside the bed, and then got a hairdryer to blow-dry her hair.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t resist or refuse, allowing him to tend to her.
Since she was obedient, Zhou Lin’s tone softened, and he passed her the pajamas, "Change into these and sleep. I’ll go make you some medicine."
Her skin had turned white from being in the water for so long, and she surely must have soaked for quite a while. Such cold water would definitely cause a cold.
Zhou Lin turned up the air conditioner and left, closing the door behind him. But when he returned, Cheng Zhiwei had gone back into the bathroom and was soaking in the water again.
Zhou Lin felt a severe headache coming on. He pursed his lips and once again pulled Cheng Zhiwei up, "Cheng Zhiwei, do you find this amusing?"
Cheng Zhiwei remained silent.
Zhou Lin was furious. He gripped her chin, lifting her out of the water, and stared into her eyes with his dark, deep gaze, "Speak."
Cheng Zhiwei was forced to meet his gaze, but her eyes were vacant. She wasn’t really looking at him, just staring blankly ahead.
So shattered.
"Cheng Zhiwei, everything is over," Zhou Lin suddenly hugged her close, his voice barely trembling.
Cheng Zhiwei continued to be as still as a doll, as calm as still water.
Zhou Lin once again carried her back to the bed, personally changed her clothes, made her take medicine, and covered her with the quilt.
Then he quickly took a shower himself, and after getting into bed, he pulled Cheng Zhiwei into his arms, "Sleep."
After barely half an hour of sleep, Zhou Lin was awakened by the movements in his arms. He turned on the light and watched Cheng Zhiwei clumsily getting up and then started to undo the buttons of her clothing.
A sense of panic climbed up his heart. Zhou Lin pulled Cheng Zhiwei back, gripping her shoulders, "Cheng Zhiwei, enough."
Cheng Zhiwei’s clear black and white eyes showed no emotion. She shrugged off Zhou Lin’s hand and finally spoke a word.
"Dirty."
Zhou Lin’s hands trembled, and he said in a hoarse voice, "You’ve already washed clean. You’re not dirty."
"Dirty." Cheng Zhiwei kept repeating, struggling as if she were plagued by a nightmare.
Zhou Lin leaned over to embrace her back, bending down closer, then stopped abruptly, his large palm reaching for Cheng Zhiwei’s forehead, the scorching temperature burning his palm.
She had a fever.
Zhou Lin didn’t dare to delay, quickly dressed, wrapped Cheng Zhiwei in a heavy coat, and immediately went to the hospital.
It was only after the needle was in that Cheng Zhiwei quieted down a bit, but the abnormal redness on her face reminded Zhou Lin how weak she was at the moment.
Zhang Yuanheng looked at the blood test report for a while and then had things prepared to enter the sickroom.
After waiting outside the sickroom for about half an hour, Zhang Yuanheng came out, removed his gloves, and looked at Zhou Lin, "Her fever is due to an infection in her ear."
"An ear infection?" Zhou Lin thought about Cheng Zhiwei soaking in the cold water for so long; perhaps water had gotten into her ears.
"To be precise, it’s because of something in her ear... probably blood," Zhang Yuanheng paused and spoke more softly, "Her left ear was seriously injured before and hasn’t healed, so dirt entering it quickly led to inflammation."
Zhou Lin’s throat moved, his voice a bit hoarse, "Her left ear was injured?"
"It’s from the time she was beaten to a pulp," Zhang Yuanheng said somewhat abruptly, choosing to reveal the truth, "Her left ear’s hearing has been declining; she’s been wearing a hearing aid. Haven’t you noticed?"
The last sentence was asked with a hint of sarcasm.
Zhou Lin frowned slightly but didn’t say anything.
"This fever could cause permanent damage to her hearing, meaning she might only be able to use one ear for the rest of her life, but unfortunately, people who lose hearing in one ear often end up deaf."
In other words, Cheng Zhiwei would soon become completely deaf.
Zhang Yuanheng said what needed to be said and left with the nurse.
Zhou Lin stood outside for a long time before he entered the sickroom.
The unnatural redness on Cheng Zhiwei’s face had receded, she lay quietly, her black hair spread on the pristine white pillow, making her face look pale and her chin extraordinarily thin.
She... never said...
Suddenly the phone rang, piercing the quiet of the sickroom.
Zhou Lin glanced at the vibrating name on the screen and pressed the green call button.
"Is there something you need?"
Perhaps because his voice carried a chill, Seo Zhenzhen on the other end was silent for a few seconds before asking cautiously, "Ah Lin, did I disturb you?"
Zhou Lin’s eyes lowered to Cheng Zhiwei, his tone indifferent, "It’s nothing, what is it?"
"I just wanted to ask how Zhiwei is doing?"
"She... she’s fine..."
Seo Zhenzhen immediately let out a sigh of relief, sounding a bit more relaxed, "It was my oversight; I didn’t know someone would be so agitated to splash dog blood on Zhiwei, I’m sorry, Ah Lin, I really am."
Her pitiful apology was starkly different from her aggressive demeanor demanding Cheng Zhiwei to kneel and repent before.
"You know, Zhuzhu is gone, I simply can’t accept it." Seo Zhenzhen started to sob, "It was my obsession; I am sorry to Zhiwei."
Zhou Lin suddenly felt an impatient irritation, but he held it back, speaking with a cool tone, "You should rest early, you have surgery soon; don’t stay up late."
Seo Zhenzhen’s crying hitched, and then she whispered a low "okay."
The call ended, and the quiet of the sickroom returned.
Zhou Lin suddenly reached out to touch Cheng Zhiwei’s ear, but only touched her hair, and he withdrew his hand, his gaze complicated.
Cheng Zhiwei slept a very long sleep, dreaming that she refused the Zhou Family’s marriage proposal and left Yucheng alone to pursue her dreams. She saw herself standing under the spotlight, singing the songs she loved.
Then... she... woke up...
