Chapter 184 Kneel Down and Repent
Chapter 184: Chapter 184 Kneel Down and Repent
Zhou Lin didn’t come back?
It wasn’t until Cheng Zhiwei sat up that she noticed a flickering red dot on the balcony.
Zhou Lin hadn’t failed to come back; he was smoking on the balcony.
Although the two had only recently started sharing a bed more frequently, Zhou Lin had never smoked in the room before, clearly, his decision to smoke at this time must be related to Bai Zhuzhu.
As she was guessing, Zhou Lin finished his cigarette and came in from the balcony, bringing with him a gust of autumn wind that instantly dispersed the warmth of the room.
Zhou Lin didn’t expect Cheng Zhiwei to be awake and after a few seconds of silence he asked, "Awake?"
Cheng Zhiwei silently pulled the blanket up to her chin, "Did it rain?"
"Mhm."
After another half a minute of silence, Zhou Lin said indifferently, "Today is Bai Zhuzhu’s funeral."
Cheng Zhiwei’s heart skipped, and she quietly watched Zhou Lin, "Are you going?"
"We’ll go together." Zhou Lin’s expression turned solemn, "Cheng Zhiwei, you should go."
"I won’t go. I’ve said it before, her death has nothing to do with me."
Zhou Lin spoke dispassionately, a different man from the one she saw during the day, "This is Zhenzhen’s demand. If you go, she’ll drop the lawsuit."
"Then let her continue suing me."
If the police couldn’t clear up the matter, she might as well go to jail.
Zhou Lin lost his temper suddenly, "Cheng Zhiwei, I gave up half of my managerial rights to help you settle matters with Zhou Jinzhong; is this how you repay me?"
Cheng Zhiwei felt a pang of pain; he needed an unblemished wife.
So, the demand for repayment had arrived.
"I’ve said it, anything else I can help you with to the best of my ability, but not this one." Cheng Zhiwei was clear that if she really attended Bai Zhuzhu’s funeral, then Bai Zhuzhu’s death would be blamed on her forever.
Zhou Lin glanced at the time and headed out, "Eight o’clock, we leave on time."
He moved his feet, slightly turned his head back to look, "Cheng Zhiwei, your sister is still in Yucheng. If you want to keep her safe and sound, you’d better be prepared."
After speaking, he had already left with long strides.
Cheng Zhiwei stiffened, feeling her blood run cold from head to toe. Zhou Lin actually used Cheng Zhiyin to threaten her?
How could he do that?
Hasn’t he considered what would happen if she was recognized?
Of course, this is probably the outcome that Seo Zhenzhen wants to see.
Zhou Lin couldn’t have failed to think of this, but he chose to stand with Seo Zhenzhen.
Unable to fall back asleep, Cheng Zhiwei stayed awake until seven, got up, washed, and dressed.
Zhou Lin had threatened her using Cheng Zhiyin, leaving her no choice but to obey.
Due to the rain, the sky was overcast.
Cheng Zhiwei silently followed Zhou Lin out of the car. Seo Zhenzhen had few friends, and Cheng Zhiwei thought there wouldn’t be many people at the funeral parlor, but once she got out of the car, she realized she had been wrong.
There were quite a lot of people here, including many former classmates and some strangers that Cheng Zhiwei didn’t recognize.
All of them looked at her with unfriendly eyes.
Cheng Zhiwei put on an act of composure and followed Zhou Lin inside.
Seo Zhenzhen, dressed in a black outfit, her eyes swollen and brimming with hate, questioned Cheng Zhiwei with a mix of sorrow and rage, "How dare you show up here?"
Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fist and looked at Zhou Lin, but he did not glance her way, nor did he show any intention of helping.
Cheng Zhiwei then realized, today, she was the one being abandoned.
Seo Zhenzhen covered her mouth, crying out loud, "Cheng Zhiwei, just how much do you hate me, to steal my boyfriend, cause me to lose my legs, and now to kill the sister I had finally found again? Are you pushing me to die?"
Her crying and accusations immediately attracted a wave of verbal attacks.
Cheng Zhiwei stood straight, her face eerily pale, ignoring the insults from bystanders, only looking at Zhou Lin, "Did you ask me here just to be cursed by these people?"
Seo Zhenzhen wiped her tears away, her voice hoarse, "Cheng Zhiwei, I insisted on calling you here. Ah Lin said Zhuzhu hurt you, and you didn’t mean to push her, so he pleaded on your behalf, hoping I could withdraw the lawsuit."
"But if I let you, the murderer, go, how could I face Zhuzhu? Yet I also can’t hurt Ah Lin’s feelings. So, I called you here, as long as you are willing to kneel before Zhuzhu and repent for three minutes, I will agree to withdraw the lawsuit."
Kneel before Bai Zhuzhu and kowtow?
Cheng Zhiwei turned her head to look at Seo Zhenzhen, meeting her triumphant gaze beneath her sorrowful expression, and gritted her teeth, "Seo Zhenzhen, you..."
"Cheng Zhiwei, you promised me this morning." Zhou Lin’s detached voice interrupted Cheng Zhiwei.
He was reminding Cheng Zhiwei of the threat from this morning.
Cheng Zhiwei’s words never left her mouth, as her eyes slowly reddened. "Do you really want to humiliate me like this?"
She asked earnestly with stubbornness, and Zhou Lin’s gaze shifted away as if scalded.
Cheng Zhiwei then understood.
She would not receive help from anyone present.
"Fine." Cheng Zhiwei suddenly laughed, and amidst countless gazes, she knelt down upright.
It’s just kneeling, isn’t it?
Her dignity was long gone, kneeling was no difficulty.
As long as it no longer implicated Cheng Zhiyin, that was fine.
After all, Zhou Lin had always been like this, she was the one who was wrong, and she was the one who deserved to die.
"Cheng Zhiwei." Someone suddenly called out.
Before Cheng Zhiwei could react, something foul-smelling splashed onto her. All around went silent, then a tide of abuse washed over Cheng Zhiwei.
"She deserves it."
"She harmed her sister and now her little sister, she has no right to be here."
"Such a tramp."
"If I were her parents or relatives, I couldn’t even lift my head."
"Even giving her life would not be enough."
"Why doesn’t she just die."
"Slut."
The foul stench came from the blood of something unknown.
Cheng Zhiwei knelt there, covered in blood from head to toe, a pitiful sight.
Her whole body was stiff, and she trembled slightly. She wanted to stand, but had no strength at all, numb to the point of not even having tears.
After a while, for some reason, the jeering seemed to recede from her ears, leaving only the words "three minutes" echoing in her mind.
Three minutes, she could endure that.
As soon as the three minutes were up, Zhou Lin’s overcoat fell on Cheng Zhiwei. Trained bodyguards separated the excited crowd, and Zhou Lin lifted Cheng Zhiwei into his arms.
His deep, somber gaze weighed heavily on Seo Zhenzhen before he proceeded to leave, carrying the person in his arms.
"Ah Lin." Seo Zhenzhen screamed in agony, falling to the ground as tears streamed down, "Ah Lin, where are you leaving me to go?"
Zhou Lin paused, then looked back.
Seo Zhenzhen lay on the ground in misery, her palms facing him, pitiful to the extreme.
All around, countless eyes watched.
Zhou Lin pursed his lips, stood for a moment, and amidst a growing noise of discussion, set Cheng Zhiwei down and handed her over to Secretary Zhang, "Take her home."
He chose to stay.
Secretary Zhang could hardly bear to see Cheng Zhiwei in such a state and said with his head lowered: "Young Madam, I will take you home."
Cheng Zhiwei obediently began walking out, her steps numb and heavy, like a puppet’s.
