Chapter 133: Cheng Zhiwei Must Not Die in Zhou Lin’s Guilt

Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Cheng Zhiwei Must Not Die in Zhou Lin’s Guilt

On the second floor, Cheng Zhiwei stood by the window, watching the car disappear into the rain curtain.

The autumn rain seemed to be growing stronger, the chill seeping through the window, making one feel ice-cold all over.

Wang Mei closed the window and said with some concern, "Young Madam, let’s go back. The rain is getting heavy, and the wind is strong; don’t catch a cold."

Cheng Zhiwei lowered her eyes, her tone steady but exceptionally firm, "I need to go out."

Wang Mei hesitated for a moment, "The young master instructed me to accompany you."

"You can follow me, but I must go out," Cheng Zhiwei left the words behind, supporting herself on the wall as she limped back.

She was worried about Cheng Zhiyin.

Wang Mei hurried over to support her, and for a moment, didn’t register anything wrong—the young master only said to accompany the Young Madam, he never forbid her from going out.

Therefore, ten minutes later, Wang Mei drove Cheng Zhiwei out. She had a driver’s license; Lin Yu had bought her a car for convenience when buying groceries, and now it came in handy.

Cheng Zhiwei asked Wang Mei for a phone and called Cheng Zhiyin.

The call connected quickly, but it wasn’t Cheng Zhiyin’s voice that came through but Gao Wei’s, which should not be there.

Cheng Zhiwei hesitated for only a second before she pressed the speakerphone and placed the phone next to Wang Mei, signaling her to speak.

Wang Mei blurted, "Hello."

A scoff came from the other side, "Cheng Zhiwei, I know it’s you."

Cheng Zhiwei’s heart sank, took back the phone, and switched off the speaker, "Gao Wei, shouldn’t you be at the police station?"

"Cheng Zhiwei, I’ve warned you many times not to play tricks," came Gao Wei’s crazed, cold voice, "You just wish your sister would die, don’t you?"

"Don’t harm her," Cheng Zhiwei’s face turned deathly pale as she screamed with agitation, then, taking a breath, she added through gritted teeth, "I agree to your terms."

Gao Wei’s mocking voice was loud, "I don’t trust you now. Listen to how well your sister screams."

The sound of a struggle, and Gao Wei’s cursing, came through the phone, "Bitch, scream for me, scream..."

But Cheng Zhiyin wouldn’t make a sound.

Cheng Zhiwei’s heart ached terribly; she couldn’t help but shriek, "I’m alone right now, just name a place. You might not show up, but first, see if I’m alone."

"Fine, come to this address..."

Wang Mei had already sensed something was wrong, "Young Madam, what’s the matter? Should we inform the young master?"

Zhou Lin?

What good would informing him do?

He had left people there, yet Gao Wei had gotten out of the police station and was torturing Cheng Zhiyin without restraint.

He also took her phone—did he just want her sister to be tortured to death?

The rain kept pouring down harder, the sky dark as spilled ink, the whole world cloaked in gloom.

"Young Madam? If there’s trouble, we can also call the police," Wang Mei suggested.

"It’s no use," Cheng Zhiwei mumbled; if the police were useful, Gao Wei would not have been released.

"Young Madam?"

Cheng Zhiwei quickly made up her mind and in a low voice said, "There’s a pharmacy up ahead, help me buy some painkillers, my foot hurts a lot."

"This..."

"It really hurts a lot."

"Then wait for me in the car."

Wang Mei parked the car at the side of the road, instructed Cheng Zhiwei to wait for her inside, and hurried off to the pharmacy. Only when paying did she realize the phone was still in Cheng Zhiwei’s hands. When she looked up again, there was no trace of the car outside.

It’s over, Wang Mei thought.

Cheng Zhiwei quickly arrived at the address Gao Wei had given her, a huge, abandoned high-rise surrounded by desolation—a perfect place to commit suicide.

She didn’t wait for Gao Wei’s call, but dialed him directly saying, "I’ve arrived."

"Jump down, Cheng Zhiwei," Gao Wei commanded imperiously.

Cheng Zhiwei sneered, "Do you think I’ll jump just because you tell me to? Come on, Gao Wei, at the very least you should let me see what my sister looks like now. Otherwise, if I die and you still don’t let my sister go, wouldn’t my death be in vain?"

"Cheng Zhiwei, this isn’t the place for you to negotiate terms. If you don’t jump, I’ll kill your sister," he threatened.

"Oh, then go ahead and kill her. I have a recording here that I’ll send to the police right after. I just don’t know if the person behind you will be able to bail you out again."

Cheng Zhiwei hardened her heart, she was gambling that Gao Wei wanted her life more than anything; even for someone as malicious as him, he didn’t have the guts to murder, nor the desire to live like a rat hiding and scurrying for the rest of his life.

He was still dreaming of a high promotion, dreaming of carrying on the Gao Family line.

"Add me on WeChat, I’ll video call you," she proposed.

"That won’t work. My phone is with Zhou Lin, and the one I’m holding is an old feature phone that can’t add WeChat," he replied.

"Cheng Zhiwei, you’re trying to fool me," he retorted.

"Believe it or not, it’s up to you, Gao Wei. I’m waiting for your decision." Cheng Zhiwei hung up the phone and started climbing up the stairs; the higher she went, the stronger the wind blew.

Meanwhile.

Seo Zhenzhen returned to the apartment she had been staying in, and He Lanzhi was also there, with a table full of dishes and a bottle of fine liquor.

"Ah Lin, you’re here," He Lanzhi pulled out a chair. "Come, sit down. I’ve prepared some good food and drink as an apology."

Zhou Lin spoke indifferently, "You should go and apologize to Cheng Zhiwei and promise never to do such things again. Then I’ll let this matter slide."

"Apologize?" He Lanzhi laughed as if she’d heard the biggest joke, and with a kick, she sent the chair flying back. "Ah Lin, have you lost your mind? Asking me to apologize to her? Did she ever apologize to Zhenzhen?"

"This is between you two, don’t drag Zhenzhen into it. She isn’t your shield," Zhou Lin said sternly, his face becoming ugly. "He Lanzhi, she has a recording of you on her phone."

"Just a recording, isn’t it something you can delete with a flick of your finger?" He Lanzhi was unbothered, finding it impossible to apologize.

"Besides, I was just teaching her to learn what it means to obey orders unconditionally. I should receive your gratitude not accusations," He Lanzhi couldn’t stand the injustice, her peach-blossom eyes slowly turning ferocious and fierce, "And now, it’s already too late."

"Too late for what?" Zhou Lin’s heart tightened, as the ringtone of his phone suddenly filled the room, with the name Zhang Yuanheng flashing on the screen.

"What’s up?"

"Is nobody home?" Zhang Yuanheng continued pressing the doorbell, "I’ve been ringing the doorbell for five minutes, and nobody’s opening the door."

Zhou Lin’s expression changed slightly—is nobody home?

The tension plummeted to its lowest in an instant, as he roughly grabbed He Lanzhi’s collar, "What have you done?"

Seo Zhenzhen’s expression also changed, her voice shaky, "Lanzhi, what have you done behind our backs?"

He Lanzhi’s eyes were bloodshot, laughing maniacally, "Zhenzhen, I was helping you. If Cheng Zhiwei dies, you can marry Zhou Lin in all propriety."

"Where is she?"

"How would I know?" He Lanzhi shrugged indifferently and even patted Zhou Lin’s shoulder, "I cleared that trash away for you; you and Zhenzhen just go ahead and have a good marriage."

"He Lanzhi, you just wait," Zhou Lin punched He Lanzhi in the face and then pulled out his phone to call Secretary Zhang; he almost shouted the order for him to immediately start looking for someone.

The figure vanished out the door.

"How... How could you do this?" Seo Zhenzhen clutched her chest in anger, this fool, as silly as Bai Zhuzhu, why would she do such a thing.

If Cheng Zhiwei died at this moment, she would definitely be a thorn in Zhou Lin’s heart, an indelible white moonlight he couldn’t extract.

After all, she had seen that Zhou Lin harbored guilt towards Cheng Zhiwei.

Cheng Zhiwei could die by Wang Zhen’s hand, or due to any accident, but she could not die now, not while Zhou Lin is filled with guilt.
