Chapter 129: Chapter 129: It’s Our Business, No Need for Others to Gossip
"Okay." Cheng Zhiwei pressed 110 on her phone, her voice neither loud nor soft, was exceptionally clear in the nearly empty corridor, "I want to make a police report, someone instigated others to harm someone..."
The expressions of the three people in the corridor all changed.
No sooner had Cheng Zhiwei finished speaking than a shadow fell over her, entirely enveloping her. Zhou Lin’s voice was tense, "Why did you come?"
His gaze swept over her dirtied clothes, his expression complex. He certainly knew that this was the result of her chase after his car and fall not long ago.
Cheng Zhiwei looked up, questioning word by word, "Zhou Lin, the answer you said you would give me tomorrow morning, were you planning to let Gao Wei take the fall for the real perpetrator?"
Her finger pointed straight at He Lanzhi, her eyes dead with despair and disappointment, but it was that very despair and disappointment that also held a startling blaze.
"Cheng Zhiwei, do you really think Ah Lin would fall out with me over you?" He Lanzhi was confident, unfazed. Decades of brotherhood couldn’t possibly be damaged over a woman, especially one without shame.
Otherwise, Zhou Lin wouldn’t have told him to back off.
It was just a matter of minimizing the issue.
These provocative words stabbed deeply into Cheng Zhiwei’s wounds. She clutched at the wall, barely managing to stand upright, her heart twisting in agony.
"Gao Wei beat my sister to such a state, even ignored her severe bleeding, nearly killing her, forced her out of the hospital, and beat her half to death. To you, are these all trivial matters?" Cheng Zhiwei’s sarcastic laughter surfaced, suffused with grief and despondency, "I must be insane to believe that you would give me a fair and just outcome."
"Zhiwei, there might be some misunderstanding about this matter, let’s sit down and talk." Seo Zhenzhen sighed softly, urging in a helpless tone.
"There’s nothing to talk about, I’ve already called the police." Cheng Zhiwei raised her phone, "I’ll see you at the police station."
"Zhiwei." Seo Zhenzhen urgently said, "It’s because of me that Lanzhi misunderstood you, for the sake of my face, can we talk?"
Cheng Zhiwei was truly annoyed. Seo Zhenzhen was like a panacea; anytime they hurt her, it was for her, Seo Zhenzhen - an excuse that never failed.
"Seo Zhenzhen, enough," Meng Qiancheng, supporting a staggering Cheng Zhiwei, said sternly, "If you have any conscience at all, you shouldn’t say such things."
"What?" Seo Zhenzhen was stunned, then looked at He Lanzhi, "Lanzhi... is this true?"
He Lanzhi’s peach blossom eyes were bold, smirked and taunted Meng Qiancheng, "Doctor Meng, you want to get involved in this matter too?"
Meng Qiancheng half-wrapped Cheng Zhiwei in his embrace, full of protective intent, "Nobody can bully her."
With that, he prepared to leave.
Zhou Lin’s face had darkened, "Meng Qiancheng, take your filthy hands off her."
As soon as he finished speaking, he had already pulled Cheng Zhiwei out of Meng Qiancheng’s arms.
Cheng Zhiwei’s left foot was sprained, and after being dragged on for so long, her ankle was swollen horribly. When Zhou Lin pulled her, she staggered, and a piercing pain shot through her, drenching her in cold sweat, her face deathly pale.
Zhou Lin immediately noticed her foot and, disregarding her dirty clothes, half-embraced her as he asked urgently, "Does it hurt a lot? I’ll take you to the hospital."
While speaking, he bent down to carry Cheng Zhiwei.
"Zhiwei, how did you end up like this?" Seo Zhenzhen reached forward, but due to her oversized motion, she fell out of her wheelchair.
Zhou Lin had already half-lifted Cheng Zhiwei, and in the instant Seo Zhenzhen lunged, he almost instinctively chose to let go of Cheng Zhiwei to catch Seo Zhenzhen.
What he wanted to protect had always been Seo Zhenzhen, after all.
Cheng Zhiwei was caught off guard and fell to the ground, the intensified pain made her breathing tremble, yet she bit her lip hard, stifling any cries of pain.
"Weiwei." Meng Qiancheng squatted down to help Cheng Zhiwei stand up, asking anxiously, "Are you alright?"
Zhou Lin’s face changed color, but with only a pair of hands, holding Seo Zhenzhen, he couldn’t tend to Cheng Zhiwei. With pursed lips, he placed Seo Zhenzhen back in her wheelchair.
He turned to prepare to help Cheng Zhiwei.
Cheng Zhiwei had already stood up with Meng Qiancheng’s help, her forehead glistening with sweat under the light.
Glaring.
The next second, his outstretched hand was brushed away by Cheng Zhiwei.
She said coldly, "No trouble is needed, Young President Zhou."
"Cheng Zhiwei." Zhou Lin wanted to explain but couldn’t say anything because he knew he was in the wrong.
Cheng Zhiwei, leaning on Meng Qiancheng and with her voice trembling from the pain, said shakily, "Brother Qiancheng, please take me to the hospital."
"Cheng Zhiwei, I will take you to the hospital." Zhou Lin took two steps forward, his expressionless gaze fixed solely on Cheng Zhiwei.
"No need, you better take good care of Miss Seo and Young Master He. After all, the police will be here soon." Cheng Zhiwei reached out to circle Meng Qiancheng’s neck, making her stance perfectly clear.
Meng Qiancheng gave Zhou Lin a cold look and left carrying Cheng Zhiwei.
Zhou Lin moved to follow, but He Lanzhi said coolly from behind, "Zhou Lin, Zhenzhen is still here, are you going to abandon her to find Cheng Zhiwei?"
"Ah Lin, don’t worry about me, go find Zhiwei, I think her foot might be swollen." Seo Zhenzhen urged generously, "Later, I can ask Lanzhi to take me home."
Zhou Lin glanced indifferently at He Lanzhi, and left in a hurry.
He Lanzhi frowned in puzzlement, "Zhenzhen, you’re letting him go to Cheng Zhiwei? Seeing his expression, aren’t you afraid that he might fall for Cheng Zhiwei?"
Seo Zhenzhen’s face took on a layer of sadness, no longer as generous as before, "Even if he stays, he won’t be at peace."
"But..."
"Moreover, Cheng Zhiwei has the recording of our conversation on her phone. If she makes it public in desperation, it would be bad for you." Seo Zhenzhen looked at He Lanzhi with eyes full of worry, her voice soft and low, "I’ve already lost Zhuzhu, I can’t let anything happen to you."
With that gaze full of wholehearted trust, He Lanzhi’s heart warmed, and she made a solemn promise, "Zhenzhen, don’t worry, I will definitely take care of you. And about Zhuzhu, I will find a way."
Seo Zhenzhen nodded joyfully, her voice choked with emotion, "Thank you, Lanzhi."
The hospital.
Zhou Lin stood outside the treatment room, looking through the window he could see a nurse rolling up Cheng Zhiwei’s trouser leg, revealing a swollen and red ankle.
The sleeves rolled up, showing her normally fair skin now dark red in patches, with even some crimson bloodstains and several abrasions.
His throat tightened, his gaze solemn.
"Zhou Lin, you have the nerve to come here?" Meng Qiancheng sneered coldly, his voice frosty, "She’s like this, all thanks to you."
Zhou Lin merely glanced at Meng Qiancheng, his expression impassive, showing no anger, but his presence overpowering, "You talk as if you have any real concern for her. You have done nothing but encourage her to take her revenge on me. Meng Qiancheng, what exactly is your agenda?"
Meng Qiancheng was not flustered by Zhou Lin uncovering certain motives, instead, he replied leisurely, "I might have encouraged her, but I didn’t harm her, nor did I force her, while the harm you caused her is real. How dare you stand here asking me this?"
"Our matter, it’s not for you, an outsider, to comment." Zhou Lin laughed scornfully, a storm gathering in his deep eyes.
