Chapter 127: He Lanzhi is Behind the Trickery

Chapter 127: Chapter 127: He Lanzhi is Behind the Trickery

Cheng Zhiyin felt all her strength drain away. She slumped onto the couch, slightly unable to support herself, and after a few minutes, she finally regained her composure. Gritting her teeth, she got up, intending to change her clothes and go directly to find Cheng Zhiyin.

Once she had changed and descended the stairs, her cellphone chimed twice.

Gao Wei: [Cheng Zhiwei, I warned you, don’t play any tricks.]

The second message was an audio recording of Cheng Zhiyin’s screams.

Cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and fear made her legs go weak, nearly causing her to tumble down the stairs. Barely maintaining her balance, she dialed Gao Wei’s number with trembling hands.

The phone rang again and again, unanswered.

Cheng Zhiwei’s face turned as white as a ghost. Although she didn’t know what Gao Wei had done, it was clear that he was warning her with his actions that if she didn’t obey and continued to make moves, Cheng Zhiyin would suffer even more.

But, she couldn’t just do nothing.

Cheng Zhiyin had just gone through a miscarriage and massive bleeding, her body was extremely weakened; how could she possibly withstand Gao Wei’s monstrous beatings.

She had to rescue Cheng Zhiyin and also make sure Gao Wei wouldn’t dare seek revenge.

Thinking it over... there was only one person who could help her save Cheng Zhiyin without leaving any troubles behind... Zhou Lin.

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly remembered the words he had said before.

Did he mean that she had to beg him?

If begging him would save Cheng Zhiyin, she was willing to do so.

With that in mind, she had already risen to her feet and was heading to the study in her slippers.

Whether or not Zhou Lin was the mastermind behind this situation, she had no choice but to seek him out now.

Cheng Zhiwei had just reached the door of the study when Zhou Lin opened it and came out, the two of them coming face-to-face.

"Zhou Lin." Cheng Zhiwei wanted to beg him.

But Zhou Lin had no intention of letting her finish her plea, and with a step, he walked past her and went downstairs.

And he moved quickly.

Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip and chased after him, finally catching him at the front door. She cast aside her dignity and pleaded humbly, "Zhou Lin, please, go save my sister now..."

"I told you, I’ll give you an answer about your sister’s matter tomorrow morning," Zhou Lin interrupted her, mercilessly prying her hand off his clothes, turned, and got into his car.

"Zhou Lin, wait, my sister is in a bad situation right now, only you can save her, I beg you." Cheng Zhiwei tried to pull at the car door, but it was locked.

"Drive." Zhou Lin commanded the driver expressionlessly.

The driver immediately started the car and drove away.

Cheng Zhiwei was knocked to the ground unexpectedly by the car, falling down hard, with sharp pain shooting through her left foot, her clothes rolled on the ground, soaked and dirty.

Ignoring the pain, she got up and chased after the car, her left foot hurting so badly that it seemed to be dragging her forward.

But the car was getting farther away and eventually disappeared from her sight.

Cheng Zhiwei stood in place, disheveled and feeling utterly cold.

He had clearly said he would help her, so why, when it truly mattered, could he leave without any mercy?

The cold autumn rain carried the beginning-to-yellow leaves that twirled down in the autumn wind. Cheng Zhiwei stood in the autumn rain, tears streaming down uncontrollably. At this moment, sourness and grievance nearly swallowed her whole.

A desolate sensation swept over her.

"Sister, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry." She apologized and cried while her steps continued determinedly outward, wiping away tears with the back of her hand, telling herself crying was futile, but she couldn’t stop, no matter how hard she tried.

Zhou Lin was gone, but she couldn’t truly give up; she had to go find Cheng Zhiyin.

With every step she took, her left ankle throbbed painfully, causing her to break out in a cold sweat. At the same time, her elbows and legs stung fiercely, the result of the abrasions from being dragged down on the concrete.

All her emotions erupted at this moment, reminding her of just how unkempt she was right now.

"Weiwei." A deep, concerned voice chased after her from behind.

Meng Qiancheng, holding a large umbrella, took hold of Cheng Zhiwei’s wrist, his gaze falling on the stains on her clothing and her obviously unsteady feet, his face turning pale.

"Are you hurt?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s tears surged again, "Brother Qiancheng, something happened to my sister."

Meng Qiancheng decisively threw away the umbrella and picked Cheng Zhiwei up, heading to his car parked not far away, "Weiwei, I was just about to talk to you about this. I came to find you because I discovered who was behind the whole incident."

"My sister..."

"I’ve already called the police, they are on their way to your sister’s house."

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly became anxious, "We can’t call the police yet."

Meng Qiancheng quickly tried to soothe her, "It’s okay, Zhiwei, I have made arrangements. I came here to find you because I couldn’t explain this matter over the phone; I must tell you in person."

Listening to him, Cheng Zhiwei’s worries were significantly relieved. It was good that the police were on their way; they could at least protect Cheng Zhiyin. Besides, if the things in Gao Wei’s possession really did leak out, there was nothing to be done about it. It was still better than people dying at the hands of Gao Wei.

Her tensed nerves relaxed a bit, "You just said you knew who was behind this?"

Meng Qiancheng, looking at her muddy and injured state with a pained expression, said, "I’ll take you to the hospital."

"Who is the mastermind?" Cheng Zhiwei pressed on, only caring about this question, who could be so malicious.

Meng Qiancheng was silent for a few seconds, "I’ll take you to the hospital first."

"Where were you originally planning to take me?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.

Once emotions settle after a burst, people tend to notice a lot more issues; even if Meng Qiancheng hadn’t made it explicit, Cheng Zhiwei had already guessed a thing or two.

She curled up in the passenger seat, her gaze dim, "Wherever you were planning to take me before, take me there now."

To let her give up completely.

"Your injury..."

"I’m fine."

Meng Qiancheng didn’t say much else, turning the car in a different direction towards another place.

It wasn’t a strange place at all, He Lanzhi’s bar.

Cheng Zhiwei had been here a few times.

Meng Qiancheng wanted to carry her, but she refused.

He didn’t insist and extended his arm for Cheng Zhiwei to lean on as he led her in through the back door, explaining softly, "I bribed one of the workers here and got a lot of information. This incident with you was orchestrated by He Lanzhi behind the scenes."

"He Lanzhi?" Cheng Zhiwei was slightly startled.

Unexpected, but also not.

"He Lanzhi spends most of her time in this bar, acting capriciously and recklessly, relying on her family’s money, without hiding her behavior. So finding out what she has done is a piece of cake." Meng Qiancheng explained the whole situation.

"You brought me here, do you have a way to make her confess?" Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t doubting Meng Qiancheng, but she felt that this visit might not yield any useful information.

He Lanzhi wasn’t a fool; how could she possibly admit to anything.

"I heard that tonight is the gathering day for Zhou Lin, He Lanzhi, and Seo Zhenzhen," said Meng Qiancheng. "I’ve checked, and since Seo Zhenzhen has been back for these last two months, they meet up almost every half month."

In the dim light, Cheng Zhiwei lifted a bitter smile. So it turns out that Zhou Lin was in such a hurry to leave because today was their trio’s gathering day, and he didn’t want to be late.

Of course, he wouldn’t bother with her either.
