Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Gao Wei’s Condition Is Cheng Zhiwei’s Life

Sitting in the car, Cheng Zhiwei finally eased her emotions. She took out her phone to send a message to Xu Tian, asking if there was any way to investigate someone’s mobile phone.

This was a bit difficult, and Xu Tian replied that she needed time to think about it.

Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but sigh softly. After thinking it over, she felt she should ask Gao Wei to meet and talk things over.

Gao Wei was a man driven by profit. No matter what was in his phone, he would surely exchange it for something.

But why had Cheng Shang suddenly come back?

She caressed her phone, unconcerned with Zhou Lin beside her, and called Guo Cuihua to ask about Cheng Shang’s return.

Guo Cuihua said, "He mentioned he needed to personally deliver something back, but I don’t know the details. After I was bitten by a snake last time, he forbade me from going into the woods. I’ve only been organizing data outside, so I really don’t know what it is."

"Did you see him?" Guo Cuihua asked gently, "Didn’t you quarrel, did you?"

Cheng Zhiwei was unsure whether to tell Guo Cuihua about the situation, considering she still didn’t know what Gao Wei had in his possession. If Guo Cuihua knew, she would definitely ask Gao Wei, and perhaps things would become even worse.

Thinking of Cheng Zhiyin’s pale expression, Cheng Zhiwei chose to keep things hidden. She simply reminded Guo Cuihua to take care of herself before hanging up the phone.

She rubbed her temples, her head aching dully.

Glancing out the window, the autumn rain blurred the glass, obscuring her view.

Zhou Lin sat beside her, his black suit sharp and well-fitted, its austere lines appearing even colder. If one looked closely, they’d notice his gaze resting on Cheng Zhiwei, watching her continuously send messages.

But from the hospital to the house, she had not spoken a single word to him, nor did she seek his help.

Cheng Zhiwei hadn’t considered asking for Zhou Lin’s assistance, not even mentioning the matter to him, because she knew it would be futile. Taking pleasure in her pain was his kind of enjoyment.

Moreover, there was no telling if one day, in a mood, he would stir up even more trouble over this.

She would just have to take things one step at a time.

Upon returning to Sparkling Sky City, Cheng Zhiwei went straight to her room. Having Gao Wei’s phone number, she immediately called to arrange a meeting. Perhaps Gao Wei had been awaiting her call because he agreed without hesitation.

After staying upstairs for half an hour, Cheng Zhiwei hurriedly left the house.

At the agreed-upon café, Gao Wei had already arrived.

Cheng Zhiwei went straight to the point, "What do you want?"

Gao Wei adjusted his glasses and began unhurriedly, "Sit down, let’s talk."

Cheng Zhiwei took a seat opposite him and warned, "Gao Wei, don’t go too far."

Gao Wei leaned back on the couch leisurely, his tone mockingly gentle, "Cheng Zhiwei, I didn’t want this either, but there’s no helping it. You and your sister insist on targeting me, so I have to do this."

"What do you want?"

"Die, and I’ll spare your sister," was Gao Wei’s demand, asking for Cheng Zhiwei’s life.

A storm brewed in Cheng Zhiwei’s heart as she scrutinized Gao Wei, "Do we have such deep hatred?"

He wanted her dead.

Gao Wei took a sip of his coffee, still looking like a trustworthy person, but the cunning and contempt in his eyes were downright chilling, "Cheng Zhiwei, I don’t have time to waste here arguing with you. Don’t ask too much. I have just this one condition. Let me know when you have made up your mind, and I’ll spare Cheng Zhiyin. Also, don’t tell anyone about this, or I can’t guarantee what I might do."

Having delivered his threat, Gao Wei stood up and straightened his clothes, smiling with ominous intent, "Cheng Zhiwei, don’t make me wait too long."

Gao Wei left.

Cheng Zhiwei looked at the attractive latte art in her coffee cup with an expressionless face, a self-mocking smile involuntarily curling up at the corner of her mouth. It turned out that this whole thing had targeted her from the beginning.

Her sister, Cheng Zhiyin, was just an innocent party dragged into this.

Thinking of Cheng Zhiyin previously trying desperately to send her away, afraid of implicating her, Cheng Zhiwei’s heart was filled with an indescribable bitterness.

In the end, she was the real culprit.

She didn’t know how long she had sat there. Her limbs had stiffened from the weather and lack of movement for an extended period. A polite waiter came over and asked if she needed to replace her coffee with a hot one.

"Thank you, no need," Cheng Zhiwei returned to her senses, picked up her phone, and left the coffee shop.

The autumn rain was unrelenting, and the sky was also overcast, making every breath feel wet and sticky, as if her chest was clogged with countless bubbles.

Drifting raindrops wetted her hair, and the dampness seeped into her bones and blood.

Cheng Zhiwei wrapped her coat tightly around herself and stood at the side of the street, watching the traffic and hurrying pedestrians. Gao Wei’s words suddenly bubbled up from the depths of her heart.

If she were dead, then all this would end, right?

Her parents wouldn’t lose face in front of relatives and friends because of her, her sister could escape from that scumbag Gao Wei, and Zhou Lin could be freed from this marriage and successfully marry the woman he truly loved.

Thinking this way, her death seemed to be of great benefit.

She slowly closed her eyes, and the hustle and bustle around her seemed to disappear all at once.

Across the road, inside a black car, Zhou Lin, watching Cheng Zhiwei in the drizzling rain, frowned increasingly tightly. His hand resting on the car door handle hesitated no more and pushed the door open, ready to get out.

The legs that had just stepped out from beneath the suit trousers froze in place.

Across from him, Cheng Zhiwei’s slender figure was suddenly shielded by a large black umbrella. Meng Qiancheng said something that seemed quite angry.

Zhou Lin’s expression chilled, and he closed the car door with a "bang".

With so many men around her, the one thing she never lacked was all sorts of concern.

"Let’s go," he ordered coldly.

Cheng Zhiwei returned to the coffee shop, where Meng Qiancheng asked the staff for a clean towel and a hairdryer to dry her wet hair.

"Why stand in the rain like a fool?" Meng Qiancheng asked irritably, yet his tone couldn’t hide his concern.

Cheng Zhiwei forced a smile, "I didn’t bring an umbrella and was thinking of hailing a cab."

Meng Qiancheng passed the towel and hairdryer to the staff and ordered them to bring over a cup of hot water, with an air of familiarity as if he wasn’t an outsider.

Cheng Zhiwei fell silent for a few seconds before asking, "Are you the owner here?"

Meng Qiancheng handed her the hot water and frowned, saying, "I partnered with a friend to run it. I had time today, so I decided to come have a look. I didn’t expect to find you standing at the doorway getting drenched in the rain."

He paused before asking one more question, "Did you have a fight with Zhou Lin?"

The mention of Zhou Lin reminded Cheng Zhiwei of the hurtful things she had said to Meng Qiancheng before, and awkwardness welled up instantly. She felt on pins and needles, too embarrassed to look at Meng Qiancheng.

Meng Qiancheng sighed and reached out to ruffle her hair, "I’m not angry at you."

Cheng Zhiwei pursed her lips, looked up at Meng Qiancheng, and tried to speak, but her throat felt blocked, making it impossible to say anything. After a long silence, she softly said, "I’m sorry."
