The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 116: Accompany Me to Dinner

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Accompany Me to Dinner

Wang Mei thoughtfully packed the nutritious meal in a thermal food container and also prepared some food for Cheng Zhiwei.

After Cheng Zhiyin woke up, she felt more spirited and, sipping on the tasty soup, her mood seemed to have improved a lot; that mournful tone from before she slept had vanished.

"Your aunt’s cooking skills are really good," praised Cheng Zhiyin. "I’m quite lucky."

Seeing her in a good mood, Cheng Zhiwei tentatively asked, "Do you want me to help you find a lawyer?"

Gao Wei wouldn’t possibly divorce so easily, finding a lawyer was the best option.

Cheng Zhiyin paused for a moment, finished her soup, and then slowly said, "I want to talk to him first, to see just how unreasonable he is. If it’s truly untenable, then I’ll find a lawyer."

Her words sounded awkward. Gao Wei and his mother had already made their stance clear when they were here; it was outrageous enough, so what was there to talk about?

Cheng Zhiwei glanced at her sister’s phone again and fell silent for a few seconds before directly asking, "Sis, are you keeping something from me?"

Cheng Zhiyin gently took Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, apologizing with guilt. "Zhiwei, I spoke very harshly and went too far before, don’t be upset."

"I’m not upset."

"I just hope you can focus more on your own life. You and Zhou Lin have been married for three years now, haven’t you thought about having a child?" Cheng Zhiyin said softly. "I see that his attitude towards you seems to have changed quite a bit. If you still like him, why not work on building your relationship?"

With the conversation suddenly shifting to Zhou Lin, Cheng Zhiwei’s questions were stifled, and she could only say helplessly, "Sis, it’s impossible for him and me to have children."

No matter how considerate and gentle Zhou Lin appeared, underneath that façade, he was hiding schemes, and Cheng Zhiwei could only wait passively.

There would be no love between them and, naturally, no fruits of love.

"Nothing is impossible," Cheng Zhiyin thought of the time in the hospital when Zhou Lin came to pick up Cheng Zhiwei, showing great consideration. "As long as you still like him, everything is possible."

"You’re right, anything is possible," a man’s voice suddenly rang out behind them.

It was Zhou Lin, who had come in unnoticed.

His genial gaze fell on Cheng Zhiwei, with a hint of a smile, "Zhiwei, I’ve come to take you home."

Cheng Zhiwei pursed her lips, her expression muted. She stood up and turned to look at Zhou Lin. "I want to stay here with my sister."

Zhou Lin took her fingers in his, his large palm warm against Cheng Zhiwei’s cold fingers, his eyes gentle. "I’ve already made arrangements for a nurse to take care of your sister. Go home and rest today, and come back tomorrow morning, okay?"

It was phrased as a question, but Cheng Zhiwei knew very well that this was not a negotiation, but a command.

Cheng Zhiyin, seeing this, was happy for her sister, and to prevent her from staying, she followed up on Zhou Lin’s words, "Yes, go back with Ah Lin, and come back tomorrow morning."

"Sis..."

"You chatter all day long, I can’t rest well," Cheng Zhiyin complained with a smile. "Hurry up, Ah Lin is so busy, there’s no need to waste time here."

Zhou Lin steadied Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder, his smile tender. "I’ve arranged for someone to stand guard at the door, no unrelated person will disturb my sister’s rest."

"Thank you for your trouble," Cheng Zhiyin expressed her gratitude.

"It’s no trouble, it’s what I should do. These days, I will arrange for someone to be on guard. Zhiwei, do you think that’s okay?" Zhou Lin smiled as he looked at Cheng Zhiwei.

Cheng Zhiwei met his gaze and behind his smile, she saw a chilling warning.

She swallowed with difficulty, "Okay."

Her hand was taken again, and Zhou Lin led Cheng Zhiwei out. "Do you want to go eat something?"

Cheng Zhiwei followed with downcast eyes and obediently responded, "I’m not hungry."

"Then accompany me to eat."

"Okay."

The sound gradually faded, and Cheng Zhiyin’s smile-laden gaze slowly became vacant. After a long while, she finally took out the warm cellphone hidden under the covers.

She closed her eyes, a resolute expression emerging on her pallid face. Her fingers slid across the cellphone screen, eventually coming to rest on the name Gao Wei.

The call connected.

Cheng Zhiyin asked coldly, "What will it take for you to give me the photos?"

Gao Wei’s voice came through the phone, whispering like a devil in her ear, "I’ll give you the photos whenever I feel like it."

"Gao Wei," Cheng Zhiyin growled through gritted teeth, "don’t push it too far."

Gao Wei laughed, reveling in his advantage, "Cheng Zhiyin, why can’t you take a joke? You know exactly what I want."

Cheng Zhiyin clenched her jaw, holding back the urge to call him shameless. She took a long breath before forcing the words out, "Fine, I’ll leave with nothing."

If he wanted the house, she would give it to him.

"That was the condition before."

"Gao Wei, don’t be too greedy."

"You don’t want the photos anymore?"

Cheng Zhiyin could only grind all her hatred into pieces and swallow it, "Okay, you say it."

"You know I’m about to be transferred. During this time, I want you to resign and take care of my mother with all your heart."

Cheng Zhiyin clenched the blanket tightly, Gao Wei was trying to ruin her future, but she had no choice but to accept, "Didn’t you want a divorce?"

Wasn’t he looking for another woman to have children with?

"That’s my business. In any case, until I agree to the divorce, you’d better behave and not make me angry, or those photos will appear all over the internet."

Cheng Zhiyin looked down, tears falling. Her voice hoarse, she bit out a single word, "Okay."

Gao Wei sneered, "Cheng Zhiyin, you really are as dull as ever."

After the call ended, Cheng Zhiyin threw away her phone and covered her face, crying soundlessly.

...

When Zhou Lin wanted to eat, he truly took Cheng Zhiwei to a private family-style restaurant.

By the time they arrived, all the dishes were served.

Cheng Zhiwei glanced over and noticed that the dishes were all lightly flavored, and some were her favorites.

Zhou Lin took off his coat and casually draped it over the back of Cheng Zhiwei’s chair, rolled up his sleeves, and first ladled a bowl of soup for Cheng Zhiwei, "The soup has a nice flavor, try it."

Cheng Zhiwei took a sip. The soup was light and delicate yet savory, indeed delicious, with a familiar taste.

Seeing her surprised expression, Zhou Lin explained, "This restaurant is owned by Wang Mei’s family."

That’s why the tastes were so similar.

When Wang Mei was young, she was saved by Lin Yu who later gave her family money to open this restaurant in Yucheng. The family managed to establish themselves and out of gratitude to Lin Yu, Wang Mei has stayed with the Zhou Family.

Cheng Zhiwei held her spoon, sipping the soup sporadically, her gaze also resting on the bowl, calm and serene.

Zhou Lin ate leisurely, and when he came across something he liked, he would add some to Cheng Zhiwei’s bowl, taking good care of her.

Cheng Zhiwei neither spoke nor asked questions. She occasionally took a bite of the food he served, conscientiously adhering to his wishes, obediently behaving.

For a time, the only sounds in the private room were the crisp clinks of bowls and utensils.
