Chapter 115: Zhou Lin Acts With Such Consideration?

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Zhou Lin Acts With Such Consideration?

Having heard everything, Cheng Zhiyin’s face had changed, and she trembled with anger, "You... are going too far. You pushed me down the stairs, if I reported it, you’d be guilty of attempted murder."

Mother Gao jumped up immediately, "Cheng Zhiyin, don’t you dare falsely accuse me. When did I push you? Do you have any evidence?"

There were no cameras on the stairway at the entrance of the house, so Mother Gao was fearless.

"Zhiyin, how could you become like this?" Gao Wei wasn’t remorseful for his own actions; instead, he looked extremely disappointed, as if Cheng Zhiyin had committed a grave mistake.

Cheng Zhiyin forced her own tears back, and it wasn’t until now that she saw clearly what kind of person her bedfellow was.

"Divorce me on my terms, or else I will expose everything you’ve done. You’re about to be promoted, you wouldn’t want to be investigated at this time, would you?" Cheng Zhiyin had made up her mind and wouldn’t waver.

"Zhiyin, the fault of the divorce isn’t on me. Even if you went to report me, I wouldn’t admit it. Without evidence, it’s the Cheng family who will end up being implicated," Gao Wei took a stance of absolute non-compromise.

Mother Gao cursed viciously, "It’s bad enough that you can’t have children, and now you even want to ruin my son’s future. Cheng Zhiyin, how can you be so malicious?"

The child was Cheng Zhiyin’s sore spot, and at this moment, Mother Gao was deliberately poking at it, word by word.

Gao Wei patted Mother Gao’s shoulder and feigned consolation, "Mom, don’t be angry. I’ll talk with Zhiyin."

"Talk what? With her heart full of schemes, if she had any conscience, she wouldn’t have married you to start with," Mother Gao grew angrier as she spoke, glaring viciously at Cheng Zhiyin, even spitting out in contempt.

Cheng Zhiyin’s already pale complexion turned even more ashen.

Cheng Zhiwei said angrily, "Mind your words when you speak. Your son cheated with so many women; evidence could be found easily."

"That’s enough," Gao Wei adjusted his glasses as a deep and menacing look finally emerged in his eyes, "Zhiyin, for the sake of what we had as husband and wife, I hope you think it through. Don’t make things ugly for everyone in the end."

After he finished speaking, he left with Mother Gao, "Mom, let’s go back first and let Zhiyin rest properly."

"But..." Mother Gao didn’t want to leave. She hadn’t finished cursing. That wretched Cheng Zhiyin couldn’t bear children herself and wouldn’t let Gao Wei find someone else; she even threatened Gao Wei. Who did she think she was?

A barren hen.

Cheng Zhiyin had said all she wanted to say and didn’t stop them.

Once outside the sickroom, Mother Gao was very displeased, "She’s weak now. The more we upset her, the more likely she won’t pull through, and then all the family’s assets will be yours alone."

Saying this, Mother Gao cursed once more, "The little bitch is surprisingly tough."

To have fallen down the stairs and bled heavily yet still not dead.

Gao Wei looked indifferent, tapped his phone, and sent a message.

Mother Gao saw Cheng Zhiyin’s name and complained, "Why are you messaging her for?"

Gao Wei pushed up his glasses, his tone dark but with an undertone of excitement, "Don’t worry, she won’t get a penny."

His demeanor was that of someone holding the winning ticket.

In the sickroom, Cheng Zhiyin’s phone suddenly rang, indicating an incoming message.

She just glanced at it, then her eyes widened and she bit her lip tightly.

Cheng Zhiwei asked, "Sister, what’s wrong?"

"I..." Cheng Zhiyin turned off the phone, and the rest of what she wanted to say was chewed up and swallowed back down. She said with a forced calm, "It’s nothing."

"Whose message was it?"

"Spam from the mobile company."

"Spam?" Cheng Zhiwei was skeptical.

"Yeah, just spam messages," Cheng Zhiyin said with a pallid cheek lifted into a smile, "I want to rest now, Zhiwei, you can go back."

"But you just..."

"It was just a sudden stomach ache, it’s nothing," Cheng Zhiyin weakly forced a smile, "A normal reaction."

Cheng Zhiwei nodded, then brought up the issue of Mother Gao pushing her: "About Gao Wei’s mom pushing you, should we call the police?"

"Don’t call the police," Cheng Zhiyin suddenly became emotional and shouted sharply.

"That’s attempted murder," Cheng Zhiwei took out her phone, determined to call the police. People like Gao Wei and his mother, scum like that, should go to the police station and be taught a lesson.

"Don’t call," Cheng Zhiyin snatched Cheng Zhiwei’s phone with sudden strength, clenching it tightly in her hand.

Cheng Zhiwei was stunned, "Sis?"

Cheng Zhiyin knew she had overreacted, she eased up, returned Cheng Zhiwei’s phone to her, and managed a smile: "Zhiwei, I’m begging you, don’t call the police, I will deal with my own matters."

"Sis, even if there’s no surveillance, and nothing turns up, it can still serve as a warning to her. Besides, I still have her recording on my phone, don’t be afraid of Gao Wei," Cheng Zhiwei said angrily, "He’s just trying to intimidate you, but he can’t actually do anything to you."

Cheng Zhiyin took a deep breath, "This is my matter."

"Sis."

"I’m not you," Cheng Zhiyin said in a choked voice, tears streaming down, "I can’t disregard everything like you do—the Cheng Family’s honor, our parents’ future—it’s not something I can ignore."

Cheng Zhiwei’s expression froze slightly, Cheng Zhiyin was talking about the incident with Zhou Lin at the hotel three years prior, paired with Seo Zhenzhen’s car accident it turned into news all over Yucheng, causing quite the stir at the time.

The Cheng Family, a scholarly family, had a reputation for being exceedingly upright, even being voted the most beautiful family in Yucheng just the year before, known to every household.

Because of that incident, their so-called upright family image became a joke, and the rumors made it even harder for Mr. and Mrs. Cheng to show their faces outside until the marriage between Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin was settled and other news emerged, letting the incident finally blow over.

But blowing over didn’t mean forgetting.

Cheng Zhiyin turned her eyes away, her tone somewhat cold: "You don’t need to interfere in my matters, just take care of your own."

Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes filled with hurt, facing her kin’s grievances for the first time, she felt very upset.

"So, you’re saying you want to forgive them?" she asked softly.

Cheng Zhiyin closed her eyes, "If I can divorce with minimal costs, I’m willing, please don’t escalate this incident and involve the police. I don’t want mom and dad to find out..."

Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip and could only compromise for the time being, "Okay, I won’t call the police. You rest up, and we’ll talk about the divorce later."

Cheng Zhiyin lay down with some difficulty, muttering, "Zhiwei, you be good and listen, don’t make me hate you."

Cheng Zhiwei, looking at her sister’s drab face, could only agree.

Once Cheng Zhiyin had fallen asleep, Cheng Zhiwei still took out her phone but only to check her messages and WeChat; she saw nothing out of the ordinary.

It seemed like it really was just spam messages.

Could it really have been just a stomachache?

Cheng Zhiwei exhaled with relief, quietly placed the phone back, hoping it was true, fearing that Gao Wei had something unsavory over her sister.

After opening the door to leave, she called Wang Mei, asking her to prepare some nutritious meals to send to the hospital.

Wang Mei said, "Young Madam, don’t worry, the young master has already instructed me, and the driver is on the way with the delivery."

Cheng Zhiwei hung up the phone, lost in thought.

Zhou Lin is acting so considerate now?
